Right, i've got a X plate 2.2 Omega GLS, obviously by Omega standards, its pauper spec, but its getting there slowly.

Its now got pre-facelift Elite alloy wheels, i've fitted the front foglights, i've got the 'wood' trim around the console and gearstick, now its time to do more.

I've bought a 2.2 Y plate Omega donor from a mate that was simply going to scrap it, autobox failure, but most of the rest of the car is alright, done less than 80,000 miles :(

As it happens, the bottoms of the back doors on my Omega are rusty, so what I want to do, is simply swap the doors over in their entirety, given that they are electric on the CD as well.

Now, if I swap the door over, (its the same colour as well which is a bargain!), and fit the 4 way switch to my existing drivers door, will this be enough to mean that the electric windows will now be active in my GLS?

Other than maybe a fuse, generally Vauxhalls are quite generous with upgrading certain items.

Also, my drivers seat in my car is electric up and down, the seats in the CD are heated and electric up and down.  I did a test run of fitting the electric heated seat switches into mine to see if the loom was present at that end, and yes they were, they light up when you put the headlights on, and turning the dials activates the LED to show they are 'heating' the seat.

But obviously I need to know if the wiring is there in the floor to actually connect the CD seats into my GLS and will activate the heated seat function.

Ta in advance.

Omega General Help / mfd wiring in facelift omega
« on: 02 November 2013, 20:26:29 »
Just to confirm what I suspect, my 2.2 auto x plate omega GLS won't have the MFD wiring hidden anywhere will it?  I've found a cruise control plug for the stalk but not plug for the MFD or stalk.

Omega General Help / central locking motor
« on: 23 July 2013, 22:07:12 »
Does anyone know if a VectraB on an s reg (just before the facelift) front central locking motor boxes are  the same as Omega facelift at all? My front passenger lock is rather weak. Plethora of Vectras but not Omegas

Omega General Help / A few Facelift Omega questions
« on: 30 June 2013, 20:42:08 »
Was going to sell the Omega I picked up, but no one wants it with a gearbox fault, and frankly it doesn't irritate me enough to do anything, it can still be driven.

So, when I can be bothered to replace the gearbox, will an autobox from a prefacelift V6 be a problem on my facelift 2.2?

I've heard it will fit no problems, just wondering if theres a difference in the way the car will drive.

Secondly, I want to update the stereo in the Omega, but have also heard my choices are limited if I want to remain Double DIN sized as most of the Vauxhall range are CAN stereos which restricts my choices.

Ideally I want a standard Vauxhall stereo with Bluetooth/Aux socket but i'm sure i'm not going to get that.

Thirdly, I want to add electric windows to the back as mine is a GLS model.  Both my back doors (ooer!) have issues, one has rust the other has a nasty scrape, so I was just going to source a same colour set of doors with electric windows already fitted, fit a 4 switch pack to the door and possibly a fuse, would that be all thats needed for the back windows to be operational?  Presuming the wiring for the electric windows is all there in the door plug in the pillar.

Also, what models had the BOSE system (another reason for sticking with the Vauxhall stereo), as i've heard that too can be transplanted over.

Omega General Help / prefacelift bits onto facelift 2.2
« on: 20 June 2013, 23:08:20 »
Been offered an s reg omega 3.0 v6 with head gasket failure its an auto.

I've got a 2.2 auto facelift with intermittent limp mode.

Is the auto box suitable from the 3.0 v6 to fit to the 2.2 facelift?

I assume the seats would be a straight swap over from pre to facelift?

Omega General Help / Omega 2.2 auto box woes
« on: 24 May 2013, 00:25:03 »
Picked up a 68000 mile Omega on an x plate as scrap, wasn't going to scrap it in any case, but the missus drove it back from Weymouth and it was faultless.

Chucked it in for and MOT and it sailed through.

Guy came to buy it, had money in his hands, but when he took it for a test drive, gearbox went into limp mode, throwing up a warning light on the digital display.

So, can only change gear if you do it manually, switch off and turn engine back on, and it clears the light, gearbox back out of limp mode.

checked fluid, didn't look too clever, so fresh filter and fresh fluid.  car is fine for 30 miles or so, but again, damnd thing went into limp mode.

driving up a small incline, not pushing the car hard, all of a sudden its like its gone into neutral, engine revs climb up rapidly until at some point box sorts itself out and transfers power again, but throws it into limp mode.

engine off and on again, and its out of limp mode.

any ideas?  bloke is wanting to come back to it tomorrow and I thought the problem was sorted.

Got a Cavalier GSi 2000 with a 3.0 Omega V6 under the bonnet.  Right, now i've got that sacriledge out the way, looking for some advice.

Omega 3.0 V6 with standard F25 FWD gearbox from Calibra 2.5 v6, and management is standard Vauxhall/Bosch 2.5 V6 ECU (PN type so no immobiliser nonsense!).

2.5 management runs the 3.0 absolutely fine, just wondered if there are any performance upgrades for Omega 3.0 V6, such as ECU chip upgrades.

Other than fitting a flatter and lighter XE flywheel and F20 gearbox, theres not much I can think of that will be beneficial to the car.

Any thoughts?

General Discussion Area / Traders watch out, DVLA are about
« on: 15 March 2012, 23:46:57 »
Think putting a car into trade absolves you of any problems from the DVLA? Think again!

The DVLA are exploiting to the fullest, the SORN/Continuous Licensing introduction with full vigour, and they are taking vehicles you simply wouldn't expect.

They are currently in the South West of England right now, in the Bath/Bristol area, and they are only going to make this more widespread as it will pay them big money to do it before Government realises they've cocked up.

New rules introduced in 2004 stated that if you're not taxing your vehicle, it has to be declared SORN.

Recently, they also introduced rules stating that if the vehicle wasn't declared SORN, then it has to be insured.

Sounds great in principle, but what about Traders?

Filling out Section 9 of the V5C/3 Logbook (i.e. the yellow section) does NOT exempt you from the DVLA being able to take your car!!!!

Think i'm joking? Tell that to several traders near Bath that have had cars clamped and then removed.

The DVLA have subcontracted a company to go around in a new Transit, which has cameras on each corner of the roof. Allegedly they also have sound recording equipment that can work upto a range of 20metres or so from the van, so anything you say is recorded, so if you're trying to give someone a headsup to move a car, its on record, and obviously if you threaten the drivers/enforcement officers, they've got that down as well.

But herein lies the problem.

If you collect a vehicle from a customer that you've just bought that is on a SORN, the second the DVLA receive the yellow part of the logbook, that SORN is now NULL AND VOID.

The trader cannot and is not supposed to declare SORN, because they are not the registered keeper of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is still taxed, you don't have a problem, but if it isn't taxed, then you do.

So, you have a vehicle that is untaxed and now cannot be SORNed, so I asked the enforcement guy, "so technically you can still take the vehicle?" and he said "yes".

If its on a public highway.....they'll take it (people only have themselves to blame in that situation)

If its being worked on, they won't take it..... however.

If its on the work premises and has been in trade for what they perceive as a long duration and doesn't appear to be worked on.... they can take it!

If the vehicle is off the road but in a public car park or communal car park and isn't taxed or SORNed, they can take it!!

If the vehicle is on the driveway of a private dwelling (i.e. a house) and registered to that address, they can't take it!!

A vehicle also attracts their attention if from the date of expiry of the last tax disc (2months and 1 day from expiry), it hasn't been retaxed or SORNed, they can take it!!

A couple of local garages that have had customers cars, a couple of the cars were taken because they were working on other vehicles, and the DVLA basically said "you've got 5 cars here but only two are being worked on" so they took the others!!

You think i'm kidding? I asked a Police Officer on the legalities of cars being in trade, and he directed me to speak to the DVLA guy, "he'll know more of the ins and outs" he said......... which pretty much means the Police will give the DVLA Carte Blanche to do what they like, irrespective of whether or not its right or proper or legal.

Secondly, the DVLA guy was good enough to tell me that its down to his "reasonable discretion", which can largely mean anything.

I gave him the example of a massive car sales place that has 200 cars that are all in trade.

He tried to claim that DVLA wouldn't touch vehicles for a period of 6 weeks, and then they would expect the car to now be out of trade and put into someones name.

I said to him thats ridiculous, because it is entirely conceivable that a trader can legitimately have a car hanging around for a long duration unsold, and now you are insisting that the trader has to devalue the car by adding himself as an owner, just because he couldn't sell it quickly enough?!?!?

So, the upshot is, that lots more legitimate traders are going to lose some of their cars, through no fault of their own via a system that doesn't allow them the ability to escape without punishment.

Watch out chaps, if in doubt, keep them out of sight, he did say that he wouldn't be making a point to go into premises to seize vehicles, but did try to claim he could certainly do it.

Doing a customers car, and one of the lads forget about the selector rod that comes off the gearstick and it got ripped off! :(

Tried welding it, but it flexes too much and i'm getting and bit hacked off having to keep drilling out the old stick.

So, its a facelift 53 plate CDX Estate, and I need the complete Selector unit that is riveted to the floor.

I'm in Bath and kind of need this pronto as its the only thing stopping me giving the bloke his car back.  Not a million miles away please, and be kind on the price! ;)

I can't post in the wanted section for some reason, so I can't directly ask anyone who would likely use that section!

I can understand if theres a post limit on selling items, but requesting wanted items, don't see the point of making it so tricky.

Anyway, i'm not trying to circumvent posting rules, but I still need a bearing/hub assembly for my 2.6 V6 51 Plate Omega on the drivers side, so either reccomendations for cheap new items from trusted sellers, or if anyones breaking an Omega and isn't too far from Bath/Bristol and i'm happy to put on a decent and used replacement instead if the price is nice.

Sorry once again if any mods think i'm being an arse, but how else can I ask with this wanted section restriction?

Omega General Help / Steering idler bush
« on: 02 December 2011, 23:39:30 »
Can anyone tell me if this bush is available from Vauxhall as a separate part?  i've enquired via local motor factors, and they only supply the whole arm with the bush.... 91quid!!!!!!  :'(

Its all my Omega failed its MOT on, I can't believe such a small part is so expensive!

I know, must be mad eh?

Got a 53 Omega Estate CDX, one of the headlights has a broken bracket and it keeps coming up with the FLD/VISION fault on the display.

Is it easy to simply do away with the Xenon headlights and simply fit the standard headlights into this Omega?

**IF** i'm able to get hold of cheap self levelling sensors, how can I diagnose which one is actually at fault?  My local scrappy doesn't have them, and this car is going out on Monday so I need to get it done by then.

Omega General Help / Radiator issues
« on: 26 November 2011, 12:29:06 »
I'm confused.  Been looking on Ebay for a radiator for my Omega 53 plate 2.2 Auto, and some listings make a distinction between radiators for a Omega C and Omega B, and others claim that their radiator will fit Omega B and Omega C.

So can anyone confirm for me whether or not there are any Omega B radiators that will fit the Omega C 2.2 Auto with Aircon and oil cooler attached to the front of the rad, i'm happy to reposition the oil cooler if thats the only thing preventing me from fitting an Omega B rad.

Obviously if someone has a decent used one for sale and they are not a million miles away from Bath for a 2.2, then i'll just settle for that, but i'd like to have this confirmed as i'm keen to get this once donor car back on the road, shes too good to break up.

Newbie Welcome Area / Back in the Omega fold
« on: 19 November 2011, 20:26:17 »
Didn't want to leave Omega ownership in the first place, and yet find myself owning my first facelift model after many early Omegas.

I've had some cracking Omegas in my time, our main N reg 2.5 V6 CD which was written off by a bus (family safety FTW!), then briefly had a T reg 2.0 auto DEATH Omega ( it was used as a black 'ambulance' if you catch my drift!), then replaced by a 3.0 Elite on a P reg which was on 237,000 miles but had to go when a water hose on the back of the block burst and I was offered a ridiculous amount of money by some Bulgarians for her, so she went, to be replaced by a Citroen Picasso!! :/

Not for me obviously, for the missus.

And then I goto auction on Friday, with the intent to buy some crap to scrap, and a 51 plate 63,000 miles CD saloon auto in mint condition comes through, and I end up going mental and buying it, and now its going to be our second car to the Picasso (or is that the Picasso is second to the Omega?)

Cracking car, needs a wheel bearing, exhaust tightening up, but shes so quiet, better build quality than the previous model, not significantly so, might be because this one is such low mileage.

A few questions though:

1). She doesn't have Xenons, is it difficult and tricky to transfer all associated bits from another Omega that does have them?

2). She doesn't have folding mirrors which i'm told was available on Elite models, are they simply plug and play?

3). Any issues with fitting a leather interior?  Both front seats are electric up and down only, I assume like the Elite pre facelift, the fronts are electric all directions, are the plugs under the floor for me to fit multidirectional leather?

4). Going to source a CCR2006 to have combined tape and cD changer, tape is only so i can use a tape/aux adaptor for the missus' ipod, I'm under the impression that any Vauxhall stereo with an aux socket is full canbus and won't work in the Omega?

5). Rear view mirror doesn't have autodimming, I take it that some of the facelift models carried this option only and is it again plug and play?

6). What else could be added to the Omega that i haven't thought of that was put into the facelifts?

Omega General Help / Saloon leather into an estate?
« on: 09 May 2008, 18:03:34 »
A rather large bus has just written off my missus' N reg 2.5 V6 CDX Omega saloon, but I have a nice looking CDX estate at auction that she can have instead.

Does the entire Saloon leather fit properly into an Estate?

I really should know this, breaking as many cars as i do, but i can't remember!  :-[
