General Car Chat / To SORN or not to SORN ?

Hi guys (and any gals)
Its been a long time since I sold a car and looking at the dvla website I am completely confused.
Here is situation: I am about to sell my 2.5 v6 cd saloon, now it is mot`d  and taxed but not insured and is kept on private drive, but is registered in my name.
My question is really , do I have to declare it SORN until I sell it , if so how can anyone test drive it or even take it away if it is SORN`d.?
Supposing I sell it one evening out of office hours and I let the purchaser drive it away already asking if they have insurance of course, am I then in trouble for it being on the road when SORN`d by me ?
Do I have to cancel the SORN in some way?
Appreciate any words of wisdom

Yes I've locked keys in boot with doors centrally locked.
Any ideas how to get in pls without too much damage.

Omega General Help / Help pls

Help pls guys
2.5 v6 cd auto
Went to start her last evening and she started but running very rough as if not firing on all cylinders !
Thought it might be due to damp or fuel so put new fuel in but still not better.
Left it overnight as it was p..ing down , went out this morning and still same, I also noticed that a smell of oil burning or similar was coming from exhaust .
Help pls ... Is it bad ?

Omega General Help / Re mapping or something??

Hi you knowledgeable people out there
This is prob a stupid question but, swmbo says thats what im good at !
Anyway my old girl ( the 2.5 v6 one) is struggling a bit at times at moment under acceleration and definitely when I last towed the caravan, now someone suggested i could get the engine re mapped or something to get some more oomph back in the old girl .
Is this true or am i getting it all wrong ?

Omega General Help / what type air con fitted to my mig?

Hi....Its summer and hot so of course the aircon is not working properly!!
Found a company local who repair and service etc but only R134A systems.
Can anyone tell me if that is the type that would be fitted to my 2000 2.5v6 cd baby?

General Car Chat / Spare key for Fiesta

Hi Guys
Just a stupid question i expect but ... My nipper bought an X reg Fiesta with what he thought were 2 working keys.
Now turns out onky one actually starts the engine (it has a red mark on top of it) the other key although turning in ignition will not start the car.
Can anyone tell me whats to be done pls?

Omega General Help / How to protect climate control buttons?

Hi all

This probably isn`t the right place for this but if its any good to anybody could one of the Mods please move to right place.

I finally got a climate control in very good condition with all buttons still A1.
To protect them from wearing i have pinched the wifes clear nail polish and given each button a couple of coats (just the buttons).
Its been a few weeks and seems to be working fine.
You need a steady hand tho !
Well hope this is of some use to someone!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Battery drain?

Hi all
I seem to remember seeing on here something about the boot light drainin the battery.
I have had a couple of battery going flat and wonder if it could be down to that.
If it is should i just remove the bulb to stop it happening again?

Omega General Help / loud clicking noise from steering

Hi All
I am having increasing problems with a loud clicking noise when steering is put under any load , eg full lock or turning wheel when at very slow speed such as parking.
Any ideas ?
And is it something i can tackle as a keen learner but certainly no mechanic !
Nothing comes up on paper clip test , not sure if it should anyway.

Was wondering if it is worth activating the Trafficmaster in my old girl.
Never used it before but wondering if combined with me TomTom it might get me where i wanna go on time instead of always late.
Mind you that is usually when she is driving, which is more often than i`m liking lately!

Hi guys.
It seems from what i read that alot of you have more than one car and not always omegas.
I`m being seduced by a 230e i have seen for sale locally and just wonder if anyone has any experience of them.
Its a 1999 230e with 81000 , petrol , new cambelt and mot, £1500.

Omega General Help / Can i change my seats?

Hi All
Before i get shot down... I have looked at maintenance guide but cant find what i wanna know.

I have 2000 W reg 2.5 v6 cd.. with cloth interior.

I may be wrong but i think i have seen front seats on some omegas that seem larger in the backside area (deeper front to back).My seats have i think 2 panels in that area but pretty sure i`ve seen 3 panel seats giving i assume better comfort and support in the vital area.
So question is :- Do these seats exist and if so can i fit them to my car?

Omega General Help / code 87 ??

Hi ... Whoever is out the on boxing day .
Xmas eve the old girl suddenly started to run roughly / misfiring .
So , today its still doing it so I did a paper clip test and it says 87 ... a/c cut off relay voltage low ... Can anyone tell me what that is and what I need to do pls .

Omega General Help / 2.2 any good ?

Hi all... Now i apologise at the start cos this is one of those how long is a bit of string questions but .....
I have been offered (over the phone so far) a Y plate 2.2 petrol silver with mot til Aug 12 and tax til Apr 12.
Guy wants £400 > £500 for it , sorry dont know spec yet or mileage(other than he says" its not been to the moon and back")
Question is ... is it roughly worth it?     and
I have at present a 2.5cd V6 W reg mileage about 75k , i use it to tow the pikey van and i`m very pleased with the performance etc .... will the 2.2 give me almost as much oomf ?

I know its all maybes and a bit vague but any comments would be appreciated
