My Omega has bit the dust, and is being scrapped tomorrow. I doubt I'll be getting another Omega again, I really do love them but I just can't afford to run such a big thirsty car anymore..

So, I'll take this opportunity to thank everyone  that has helped me over the years and wish you all the very best wishes for the future.

Cars for Sale & wanted / MOT failure

Anybody on here want my CDX estate? it failed its MOT spectacularly this morning:

Failed on:
 N/S wiper smearing
 N/S headlamp aim too low
 O/S Front brake binding
 N/S & O/S rear brake pipes corroded (O/S actually burst while they were testing)
 Chassis where the front suspension/subframe joins corroded both sides, the chassis was actually moving when the steering was turned.Its taxation class is disabled so wont be transferred, so no TAX or MOT
Bodywork is poor to very poor, engine passed the emission test this morning and had the belt etc done June 2010 by Daz,



looking for £250, must be a few bits on that can be salvaged and used on another car.

Omega General Help / EML & smell of petrol

The engine started misfiring tonight, then the EML came on, then it died. Starts again okay, revs okay too, put it in drive and it dies, about 4 or 5 times trying this it eventualy goes then does that all over again within a few yards.

After a few episodes of this there is a very strong smell of petrol and a sulphury smell like bad Cats.

Managed to get home, when it is running there' seems to be plenty of power till it misfires then goes through the above troubles all over again.

Any ideas lads please?

Omega General Help / Power Steering

Just drove for about 2.5 miles, everything okay, stopped at cash point jumped back in started the car and there's no power steering, I lifted the bonnet and belt is okay but there is like a screeching sound coming from the right hand side (as you look at it from the front) no lights on the dash, temp is okay. any ideas?

Anybody got a drivers Front Seat belt in beige, mine is playing up and doesn't retract properly when I take it off.

As cheap as possible please, funds are VERY tight at the moment

For the very first time in 33 years of driving my car just went straight through the MOT,

2 advisories for slightly corroded rear metal brake pipes but nothing much to worry about :-)

She lives for another year

Omega General Help / Auxiliary Belt & Tensioner

Hi,

Is there anyone in the Coventry area that could supply and fit the above for me please? just phoned the dealer and they want £76 +VAT for the tensioner and £25 +VAT for the belt, there's got to be a cheaper way, are pattern parts of these any good? I'm arthritic so can't do much these days on the old girl.

I have the dreaded sticky ignition barrel, I've read the guide on how to service it but just wondered what is best to grease/lubricate it with during re-assembly.

General Car Chat / New Head Unit Installed Today

Changed my old Sony MEX-1GB HU for a Pioneer one, I was going for a Clarion but saw the MVH-8300BT and went for that instead - Didn't realise how bad the Sony sounded till today 

Bog-standard Speaker set-up (no amps or subs etc) and the base when it's cranked is gut grinding

Me is a happy bunny 


Got to replace the front Discs tomorrow. I get the feeling that won't be as pleasurable to do.

Hi,

I tried to change my CCRT700 for a Sony MEX-1GP head unit, I have an adapter to allow use of the steering wheel controls and display, (a Connects2 DOPS004)

the trouble I'm having is marrying up the DOPS004 to the Omega's Harness.

As you can see the connectors are different, anybody know how I can marry them up? an adapter maybe?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dash Lights

I had a dodgy headlight switch which I replaced with one from a user on here but my dash lights don't work, they used to with the old switch, but now they even don't work with that either, it's just the instrument panel lights, switch lights, the cigar lighter and ashtray lights, infact everything that would be controlled by the dimmer, I've tried cleaning all the contacts but it's still not working.

Any idea what might be the problem? is there a fuse for them? I can't find one listed anywhere. Have I got another duff switch?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Drivers Door Lock

My drivers door lock is playing up, door button doesn't go down on first press of the remote fob but does on the second (deadlock press) sometimes it opens from the fob others it doesn't (I have to open the back door and manually lift the button)

I'm assuming it will be the motor that's at fault, can they be fixed/lubricated? I have side airbags, are there any precautions I need to take while working in there? I understand about the inner skin/membrane having to be sealed, but what happens if the skin is damaged, can you get replacements?

I've just been given a towbar for my estate, it has twin electrics, but no plugs on the vehicle end, anybody know where i can get plugs to fit the omega and in fact does the omega harness support twin towbar sockets?

I had to take radio out today to check the wiring behind as the sparks thought the fault with my dash lights not working might be there but in doing it the connector for aerial that plugs into the head unit broke, I tried to repair it but the inner signal core is so damn thin that all i did was make it worse I have read that there is a connector in the foot well but i've read 2 conflicting posts one here and one on VxON as to which footwell it is actually in.

Can someone confirm which side it is on (and if there even is a connector there), what type of connector it is and whether i can pick up a replacement cable from the likes of halfords etc
