Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Water jets short
« on: 16 March 2010, 13:38:59 »
Just wondered if there is a point in the wiring loom to start at as a common area that could cause the fuse to blow for the water jets, I have tried changing the wiper stalk and also the water jet pump, but the fuse still blows so I proceeded to try the water jets without the little pump connected but the fuse still blows, the wipers work fine though obviously after replacing the 30a fuse.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / spedo sterio problem
« on: 25 January 2010, 20:04:41 »

When i bought the car the previas owner pointed out to me that if you was to turn on the cd player when car was moving , the spedomiter would read 0. So first thing i did was to remove the cd player to look at the wiering. Hmm found whot i expeced a lot of cut wire should be easy i thought just find the wrong wire and change it. ok sorted found live earth and so i thought untill i hit one of the brown wires agoinst the metal and earthed it just to see the time display to light up. Now im left with whot i have narowed down to speeker wire (well f/n r/n f/o speekers-cant seem to fined r/o) so wondering if anyone could tell me whot all the brow are for and if i can leave them capt off.Its an old pre facelift if that makes a difrence.

Omega General Help / Just 64 to fix please take a moment
« on: 25 February 2010, 20:28:37 »
Had a good moan yesterday about batteries, and the difficulty getting one for the price I wanted to pay. Well today collected one, after arguing with the shop assistant that the one I wanted wasn't to big to be built or to big to fit in my battery tray. Well yes cca 740 and a/hour 88 all under £70 brand new 3 year warranty. now fitted it turns the engine over well and after 30 turns of key to position 2 I re paper clipped it just to check and got only two fault codes, (not tested after run but 82 cleared, not woo hooing yet on that)

64 Fuel Quantity Control Out of Range

Now is this a easy fix, go without say for me probably, cheep fix?

and other cruse control fault - think id be more concerned if this didn't show as non fitted

Omega General Help / Can you fool a inj no4?
« on: 19 February 2010, 11:42:51 »
I did ask this at the end of another thread but thought it would be a fare question for new post.
There was a time when putting wrong engine in to a car , you could use a distributor with points run a live wire from battery to the distributor and run the engine on carbs instead of going through the engine management and using the efi, Its a long shot but how important is the sensor on the forth injector and can the firmware of the 2.5td be altered to not need the expensive replacing of the sensor?
I might be sounding a bit of a miser but when a single part for the car comes to more than double what I payed for the car perhaps you can understand why I'm trying different angle on this.

Omega General Help / 1 fix 3 new faults
« on: 17 February 2010, 14:38:34 »
Hi its me again had good week with car or there abouts fixed my glow plug problem, also secured the air inlet manifold thing back on to engine correctly. With this said and as the subject title states that's one down and three new faults, well two really as one fault was 48-battery voltage low(I had a feeling battery was on its last legs/sells).

So here I go again with my request for guidance as to fixing these:
my first is;
               37-Incorrect brake switch signal.
the second;
               64-Fuel quantity out of range.

I also still have the infamous 82 fault but engine was not running at time so don't know if this fault is relevant, could somebody please confirm or not whether I can dismiss this fault until paperclip test tried while engine runing.

Thank you in advanced for any help/ replies.

O I do hope its happy motoring after all this is done and no new faults come up.

Omega General Help / Cleaning turbo ?
« on: 06 February 2010, 12:54:58 »
Am I being silly or can the turbo be cleaned. Yesterday I cleaned the EGR and as much of the air manfold as was posable while it was still conected(probably not one of my best ideas but never the les I did). ow all this muck I am assuming would have come through the turbo itself, to me that means that ther must be years of muck in there as wall. Never owned or worked on turbos before I am looking for advice on as the title says on cleaning this turbo.

I have looked through the guides and found only info on the EGR so dose that mean that the task I want to try and do is not posable. I wish I had asked sethsmate yesterday about it but didnt realise how bad the state of the inside of the engine was.

Omega General Help / Arr still wont run
« on: 28 January 2010, 10:39:20 »
Ok lets take it from the top.

When i bought the td it was flashing the engine managment light when revs droped and cut out a lot with min fuel.
After a good look at this forum i proceded with the good paperclip test with no real faults to worey about. Knowing previas owner didnt care how his fuel came i asumed that filters blocked, with reading a post about `cuting out under 10L` I proseded to clean the fuel lift pump with this clean and reasembled corectly (I have gon back to it to make sure). I asumed that it needed bleading to later find out she is a self bleader ok noproblem. The spilloff pipes had seen beter dayes so i bought new ones this morning and changed them. The car now fires but not tick over arr , back under bonit and oops left the injection nut off so i have now replaced it but now battery to flat to turn the enginr over.

I gese that this post is looking for someone to reashuer me that i probably have done the moste of the work and just need to charge the battery for the beast to run.
If enyone can give me some other proactive prosedgers to take while wating for this battery and also is ther enithing els i could cheack.

General Car Chat / Using phone to unlock
« on: 13 March 2010, 14:32:49 »
Just posably my wild thought of the weekend, phone tec has advanced tenfoleds from A G Bells original use, we can now call, text, take photos, short film(or long) surf the internet, use as sat nav and menny other use as far as fm brodcasting.
 So with all this posable can you use your mobile to unlock your car prefrebly using curant tec built in to the vehacle, or would ther need to be somthing els added to the centrale locking unit to recive a signal?

If this is posable then locking the keys in car would be a thingh of the past as verry unlikly to leave phone in car but oddly left sevral keys in them and the have been loked by frindly naighbours thinking that I had forgoten to loke the d@.. thingh.

General Car Chat / What car was your last project?
« on: 27 January 2010, 22:21:08 »
Just as i was getting coverd in oil durt and grees it dound on me the last car i had to do work on was over ten years ago.Then it was simple, I had a 2l sierra and an xr4i + the 4x4 ok these were a litle harder than the 2l but evan then hardly no sensers as xr`s had MFI and the 2l twin cam just riped it out and replace with the pinto enjine useing carbs and points out of cortina(or whatever). So in all im on a big lerning curve with the runing of the enjines now'

So just wondering when was your last project car and when?

Pleas remove if this has already been asked.
Thank you

General Car Chat / What battery
« on: 17 February 2010, 17:55:22 »
I am about to change the battery on my tractor and wondered what the recommended battery is.
I am removing a;
                       Cold cranking amp of 640
                       with a capacity of 80ah

not being clued up on this, I am confident though that this is not what would have been on the car as standard (mind you the clue im going on though is the gig jaguar sign on top).

So what have you in yours and what should it be replaced with please.
