Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Exchange CCR2006 Head Unit
« on: 05 February 2007, 12:57:19 »
Follow up from the last thread is that the exchange unit from Vauxhall has lasted all of 17 days before breaking down.

CD unit has gone on the new unit but it's a better failure this time as the CDs don't load so the unit doesn't have to be taken apart to get them out, not bad for the second time the cartridge was out of the player.

Phoned the dealer this morning and another one has been ordered so I'll see how it lasts.

If the next one fails it will be a case of money back and an e-mail to BOSE to get their recommendation for another head unit before ripping the system out as there is no point in having a quality amp and useless head unit. Can't even point to the Philips system as being a let down because the CD player at home uses the same type of cartridge system and it is 20 odd years old and has never given any problems.

Still it's good to get the old tapes out!!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCR2006 Help required!
« on: 10 January 2007, 14:16:33 »
I put the CD magazine in this morning and promptly got a magazine error on the mid. The mag will not eject and no cds will load.

Any ideas on how I can get the magazine out or is it a hammer job?

Thanks,

Steve

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio station memory oddity
« on: 24 November 2006, 12:54:00 »
I've had a minor niggle concerning the radio memory since I bought the car which may or may not be a quick fix but knowing where to look would be a good place for me to start.

When on radio the radio station memory works perfectly and returns to the last station each time the ingnition is switched on but when you are playing either tape or CD the memory is not held and the likes of traffic reports etc are lost and when you switch back to radio the frequency is back down at 87.5 (or there abouts) but on the odd occasion it will stay at the last station listened to.

Given that the memory holds when constantly on radio I suspect it is an internal problem when you switch to tape or cd.

Any ideas appreciated.

Omega General Help / Facelift Alarm Problem Revisited
« on: 16 September 2008, 08:27:42 »
Posted yesterday in electrical with no response so had a think last night and tried something out to try and confirm where the problem lies with the alarm.

The other ppost was around the anti tilt system because of where the alarm was going off but on reflection it was going off only after trips of about ten miles. After switching off and setting the alarm there is a gap of 25 minutes each time before the alarm goes off.  Longer or shorter trips are not an issue at the moment.

I would guess that the power sounder should be the target and guess it is only being charged enough to last tthe 25 minutes or so and then triggering a voltage drop.

The main battery seems to be fine and there is nothing I know of that is drawing current that it shouldn't be.

Power sounder?/ What do you think?

Just back from two weeks holiday where the self levelling was playing up a bit as the compressor was starting up more often than before.

Got under the car on Sunday as it had also started whistling a bit as well and thought a new unit would be required.

The compressor is underneath the car just in front of the rear drivers side lower arm opposed to in behind the headlight as normally mentioned for earlier cars.

Disconnected the connecting arm from the switch on the lower arm and with the ignition on moved the switch arm up to start the compressor running. Whilst it was running there were no apparent signs of leakage so ignition off and back end up in the air.

Disconnected the multipin plug which is clipped onto the chassis and then started the removal process. The unit is hung off a bracket and the whole unit needs to be removed as just undoing the small bolts through the rubber isolators does not work >:(. The bracket is hung off a plate on the underside and is removed by removing the two 13mm AF nuts on the propshaft side of the bracket, 13mm socket, 4" extension and a ratchet. When you drop the unit the intake/dump hose will come out of the chassis leg where it is tucked away to stop water entering the compressor.

Once out there was no other sign of failure apart from the short intake hose having split allowing a bit of corrosion to form around the connection. Hose off, quick clean up of the corroded part and the hose replaced with a bit of the end where it goes into the chassis, laziness to hunt for a bit of hose. Squirt of 3 in 1 oil into the hose for a it of lubrication for the compressor and back into the car and all hooked up.

Back off the jack as you don't want the suspension lifting the back end whilst jacked up for safety reasons.

Tested again but still whistling. Did feel a bit of a leak this time though so back on the jack and unit out again.

The leak was from the unit where the pipe to the shocks is connected which has a large hex on the end. Assuming that the hex was to allow disassembly the end was duly removed releasing a large spring and a couple of washers so make sure you take it apart in the vertical position to minimise losses ::). There was no damage to the seal so a quick wipe and all back together again however the cap did make up slightly further than before. Back in the car and re-tested okay ;D.

There were a couple of small marks on the edge of the cap so I can only assume that the cap was backed off slightly and had allowed air past the seal hence the increased frequency of the compressor running as it was unable to maintain system pressure.

I'll try and get some photos sorted out later but hope this can be of use.

Omega General Help / 2.2 DTI Drive Belt
« on: 30 June 2008, 12:45:08 »
I need some advice please. Has anyone changed out the drive belt on the 2.2DTI as mine is beginning to squeek a bit when first started up. Changing the belt should be easy enough, just need some pointers on the adjustment etc before I start.

Omega General Help / 2.2 DTI Crank Sensor - Location?
« on: 31 October 2007, 13:06:29 »
Guys,

Anyone know the location of the crank sensor on the 2.2DTI and how to access it?

Getting desperate as now in fault finding mode and the sensor looks to be next for changing.

One night last week the emisions light flashed briefly when sitting in traffic and then again on Monday when pulling out from a junction.

Tonight on the way home I was doing a steady 70MPH when the light came on and stayed on while the rev counter zeroed. The engine was still running but refusing to rev up. The light went out again and the rev counter picked back up to cruising revs.

Apart from a build up of crud arount the sensor in the hose between the air filter and the turbo which has been cleaned up he only noticable difference is that there has been a bit more smoke than usual which is confirmed buy the build up in the tailpipe.

The generic fault code reader doesn't pick anything up so obviously a Vauxhall emision system code, work great on Fords though, so it will be a trip to the dealers to get codes read.

Any ideas in the interim would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Lowering springs finally fitted
« on: 17 June 2007, 23:12:57 »
After much discussion (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1179172034 and worry about going lower I finally fitted a set of Eibach springs today.

As an update to the guys in the previous thread the resuls are that the front is down by about 40mm (all measurements taken from the point of the bumpers at the wheel arch) and the back is down by a modest 10 mm. The drop at the arches is pretty visible but the main worry was for the tow bar height which is about 5 - 10mm higher due to the front being slightly lower than expected. All measurements were taken with the self levelling disconnected so in theory it should still function as designed but we'll see what happens once the springs settle and the caravan is hooked up in a couple of weeks.

Its been an expensive week with the last service being carried out at a garage for the warranty (now expired thankfully) along with an MOT which had the drop links, the brakes and a wheel bearing as advisories but these have all been changed now so should be okay for a while.

Last work for the time being is the geometery set up tomorrow so I'll see how that goes.

Thanks for all the help in getting this far though.

Omega General Help / Spring availability
« on: 20 April 2007, 13:05:32 »
So far I have changed the wishbones and shocks, standard self levelling rear and Monroe front, but I still feel there is too much roll at low speeds.

The shocks are all okay so it looks like the springs could be the next target area as they have done 45k and so may be weakening.

On checking the Irmscher website it says that lowering springs are not suitable for self levelling and HID use which I guess is due to the level sensors being out of sync with the height of the car once fitted.

I would prefer to leave the height as standard and I know I can get uprated rear springs in standard length as they are designed for towing but has anyone come across an option for the fronts? Does the police specification heavy duty suspension have uprated springs and can they be purchased from Vauxhall as a standard item?

Any info appreciated.

Omega General Help / Wet Headlight
« on: 02 March 2007, 09:55:56 »
Spent last night trying to dry out the lens on the passenger side headlight but there is still some condensation showing this morning. I cannot see any cracks in the lens and can only guess that the water got into the unit when washing the car last weekend and maybe just caught it wrong with the pressure washer.

It looks as though I will need to take the headlight out to get it dried off properly can anyone shed some light (sorry pun intended) as to how to remove the unit as the mounts seem to be different to the pre-facelift. Main points are the likes of the removal of the trim panel below the light as I cannot see any screws and can the lens be removed from the light as it looks as though it is only clipped on.

Thanks,
Steve

Omega General Help / Self opening windows
« on: 08 January 2007, 14:48:39 »
After parking and locking my car this morning at 7:30 I've just been called around to my car, parked outside a police station, as my alarm had been going off intermitently since mid morning. They had checked the car a couple of times to make sure it had not been broken into but on the last check the passenger side windows were both down.

The only thing that had changed in the car was the washer level warning has come up on the mid which I didn't notice being on this morning.

Any ideas appreciated but I hope it has just been a spurious fault.

Haven't checked to see if the windows work with the ignition off yet and if they do it may be I've caught the switches on the way out of the car.

Omega General Help / OBD2 compliance
« on: 24 September 2006, 21:14:54 »
Can anyone ot there tell me whether the 2.2 TDI is OBD 2 compliant as I am thinking of buying one of these http://www.rwmotortec.com/product.asp?productid=192 as we now have a newer diesel as well and waiting weeks for diagnostic work is not ideal?

Thanks,

Omega General Help / 2.2 TDI Emission Light
« on: 20 September 2006, 18:13:33 »
Don't know where to start looking with this one apart from taking the car into the main dealers. The last two mornings and tonight when leaving work the emission light has come on. Turning off the engine and re-starting cleas the problem but is still worrying that it has come on in the first place.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I will not be able to get to the dealership until the weekend.
