Car: 2.0 16v Auto CDX
I have installed a Pioneer DEH 110 CD Unit - Excellent quality with iPod interface (FM superb, AM reception is very poor but a separate issue already posted as a question)  :-/

I would like to use the 'Steering Remote Controls' advised to buy Autoleads PC99-X06 adapter, it is the correct adapter set, but my mechanic said that there is a lead missing  :o

Probably a 20pin to 16pin (grey or black connectors) this is supposed to connect from the 'box on the PC99-X06' to the main car loom/steering wheel?
Autoleads refer to something called a 'patchlead' is that what I need?

I was told by my mechanic that this 'lead' should have been left in the car, regardless of what after market stereo was fitted?

Alternatively - if someone has one - happy to purchase! :y

Cheers!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Mk1 headlights
« on: 07 March 2011, 13:40:35 »
Hi all
My headlights on my 2000 Mk1 CDX have become 'clouded' on the outside, we all know the headlights are brilliant at the best of times, but the perpex has become hazy  ::)
Any suggestions for polishing them u and what to use, have tried metal polish (Not Brasso yet?) or is it not worth it?

Or do I just get some 2nd hand ones in better nick?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CD Interchanger - Arial
« on: 10 March 2011, 15:31:26 »
Car: 2.0 16v Eco Auto CDX
I have what appears to be the slot and wiring for a CD Changer in the boot  :-? (offside)
Can I buy other manufacturers CDC's? I have a Pioneer DEH Unit; or is the wiring/connectors specific to Vauxhall/Opel supplied CDC's? mine has a 12 pin rectangular connector.
I would consider changing the head unit if I needed to, say a Sony/Kenwood, rather than re-wire the whole car!!

Also I have what looks like a Mobile Phone Arial on the roof above High level Brake Light, can this be used to supply a signal to the Head Unit  :-? my existing rear window arial isn't much use?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlights
« on: 15 December 2010, 09:28:58 »
Hi all
my 1999-200 mk1 CDX has poor headlights...
And thsi time of year it is proving an issue as I am sure other will agree  :P

A. Are there any replacement lamps on the market that will give brighter headlights?  :-?

B. Can the existing headlights be adjusted, mine seem way out, particularly the drivers side (low and to the right?)
(Existing Bulbs checked and seem seated correctly)  :-?

C. Is it practical to consider Mk2 Facelift HID Headlamp Units as a straight switch? :-?

Season Greetings to all!!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Weak main beam
« on: 16 November 2010, 10:17:21 »
Hi All  :)
My main beam headlights seem to be dimmer than I would expect, the Full Beam are very Bright an much 'whiter' - the mains seem yellow  :o

Is it a case of just fitting new bulbs, or could there be other issues?  ;)

Cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alternators
« on: 16 November 2010, 10:10:10 »
Hi All!
I need to replace my alternator current one not outputting enough and battery running flat?  :(

I am not sure what the model Number is?: I have been quoted a B196, does that man anything to anyone?

I have a 1999 Pre-Face Lift 2.0 16v Auto CDX, so suspect that it needs to be a higher output due to the Climate Control and other electrics.

Help and advice appreciated

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 2000 Omega CDX Audio
« on: 05 April 2010, 11:20:39 »
I have a 2000 2.0 Auto CDX fitted with a after market Philips MP3 CD Player. But the steering wheel remote controls don't work or the in dash display? Can anyone advise on a MP3 CD Unit that supports these features?
Also Computer isn't working, or clock etc... so these issues maybe related.
Advice appreciated.

Omega General Help / 2.0 16v Auto MPG
« on: 21 March 2011, 12:18:52 »
Hi all
May seem like a dumb question - but what you say are the key things to do to get better MPG  :-? i get about 26 mpg

a. Hard Driving 16-19mpg or less
b. Sensible Town Driving 21-23mpg
c. B Roads 26-28mpg
d. MWays 30+mpg
e. Recent trips to Scotland at good speeds (7 hours from Watford to Edinburgh) 33.2mpg?
Am I expecting too much.... but with our suits in Whitehall government 'taxing us' further, I am keen to see if there are ways to save on tax  ::) (being fuel as 63% is tax!)

I have had the AMS changed, ECU re-programmed by an ex-Vauxhall Motor Sport Technician, had new Cambelt (+water pump) at 58k, throttle body fully cleaned etc...

Will new (or better) spark plugs and or special air filters worth looking at  i.e. K&N Filters, NGK Premium Plugs :-?

I have looked at some of these 'gizmo's' but they cannot possibly be any good at £5-35 each!!   :P
What about 'aerodynamics' changes to front grill, vents etc....

Appreciate your thoughts and advice......

How do I identify my paint colour code?
Is it on the panel by the drivers door shut or in the engine bay?
Cheers ;D

Would Z359 or LA02 make any sense???

Omega General Help / 'Heater Bi-Pass Valve'
« on: 11 March 2011, 16:21:51 »
Hi All
My trusty garage has advised that I should replace the 'Heater Bi-Pass Valve' as it is leaking - not badly - but needs doing.
But I have no idea where it is  :-?
I have checked my Haynes Manual and cannot find any reference to it?
Pics would be great if anyone has any?
Cheers!

Omega General Help / Centre Console Electrics
« on: 21 February 2011, 17:35:18 »
Hi All
Odd sudden failure to all of the electrics on the Centre Console of my 2.0 CDX Auto? (W Reg 2000)

All the Climate Control buttons, Heated Rear Window, ECO, Recycle, heated Seats are not working?? NO LIGHTS  OR FUNCTIONS AT ALL  :-?
But Stereo, Hazards and Cigar Lighters are  :-/

All seemed to fail at at the same time, driving normally with no changes to any other part of the car.
(Also my exterior temp gauge is reading sub-tropical at 30.5 Degrees C! could that be connected?)

I have checked the fuses. All seem OK?
Is there a relay that controls the electrical supply to that area of the dash, or do I need to look elsewhere?

Thoughts appreciated guys as I am not sure where to start looking!!!

Omega General Help / Whining Gear box
« on: 22 February 2011, 11:16:49 »
Hi All
The Autobox on my 2.0 16v CDX (1999) is whining but only about 50mph.
It starts with a low whine about 35mph and gets worse till 50. Then goes quieter to 70-80 mph no noise at all?
Is not using any oil, (had a full change 8k ago) all functions on the box work perfectly, smooth changing, no clunking, Sport/Winter and kick-down all AOK?  :y
But has been getting gradually worse over the last 10k.

Done 5,000 with it like this including all round Ireland and Scotland and never let me down?
It is irritating but as long as it stays reliable I can live with it?
Any ideas  :o

Omega General Help / Running Hot
« on: 08 June 2010, 11:02:30 »
Hi All
I have had an ongoing issue with my 2.0 16v CDX (2000 W Reg) running hot. 95-99 degrees, sometimes going over 100  :-[
I have had some excellent advise and am getting the rad' and engine flushed and fluid replaced with new anti-freeze, along with a new cooling fan thermostat, hopefully that'll fix it.
BUT... when I turn the 'Climate Control' On (or on with Eco button selected) the Temp automatically goes up by 5 degrees  :o
It take only a couple of seconds, if I switch the 'Climate Control off' it goes back to 95? again almost instantly and normally stays there .........  any ideas  ::)
