Omega General Help / Door lock stuck!
« on: 27 July 2009, 18:21:55 »
Help! I have a major problem.

On my -03 Omega the passenger side door lock motor broke down a few weeks ago. No big problem. A simple job to fix following these excellent guidelines http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152953579/0#0
Thank you, The boy!

Today I finally got around to trying to fixi it. To my great horror, I found that the lock is stuck in the extra safety position that bars the lock. This means that it is impossible to pull the knob = the door remains locked = I can't get to the screws holding the door panel = I can't get in to the locking mechanism. Catch 22.

Does anyone know how to get the lock out of the barred position manually?

Omega General Help / power loss in hot weather
« on: 20 July 2009, 11:47:52 »
Hi all,

my 2003 Omega 2.2 has a temperature related health problem.

In hot weather (outside temp. over approx. 25 C (77 F)) the engine sometimes loses power. It still runs but is very sluggish. Sometimes when this happens, the ECU light also comes on when starting up the engine. But not always.

The same thing can happen also in colder weather when the engine temp is somewhere between cold and normal running temp, i.e. when I´ve driven only short stretches.

The outside temp sensor that feeds the onboard computer gave up a few moths ago, so I fitted a new one. I don't know if the ECU gets the outside temp from the same sensor. Anyway, the power loss problem is still there.

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / drinking oil
« on: 01 July 2007, 07:43:13 »
How much oil is 2.2 lit allowed to drink before it's considered too much. Mine uses about 1 lit/ 1000 miles. A asked the dealer bu they could oddly enoug not give me a straight answer.

Every now and then I get one of those oil burning exhaust puffs that I so nostalgically remember from my days of driving 70's and 80's Fords. (Yes, I confess. I used to drive Fords. but it's a long time ago and I was young, stupid and poor.)

Are the valve guides known to fail early on the 2.2 lit? Mine has only run a bit over 75 000 miles. Or could it be something even worse, like the piston rings?

Omega General Help / engine control light
« on: 30 June 2007, 17:52:12 »
The engine hesitated a bit when starting today. After that the engine control light (yellow licht with an engine silhouette on it) wouldn't go off.

The enginge runs like charm and starts without problems.

I tried disconnecting the battery to see if the that would reset it, but the light still looks back scornfully at me.

Any suggestions?

Thanx!

Omega General Help / Reinforced springs?
« on: 18 March 2007, 21:36:23 »
I was under my Omega Caravan today checking things out. It seems like some previous owner has fitted reinforced rear springs. The car has a self levelling system. Are reinforced springs really a good combination with the self levelling system?

Well, at least now I know why the Omega is so stiff in the rear....

Omega General Help / Mysterious wheel shudder
« on: 01 March 2007, 12:30:19 »
Hi everybody!

Owning my first Omega since one month ago, I'm completely lost when it comes to Omega-specific issues. I've been driving an old banger, a 1987 Peugeot 505 Turbo Injection for the last thirteen years. Belive me, I've picked that thing apart a lot more times than I wish to remember...

Anyway, now to the question:

Between 40 - 50 mph I get a strange wheel shudder or vibration from the rear. It's stronger when I'm decelerating and weaker during acceleration. The faster I speed up (i.e. the more force I put on the rear), the weaker the shudder is.

The wheels are recently balanced and 4-wheel aligned (although with no guarantee that it is correctly done).

Wheel bearings are ok.

When I had the Omega in for service the other day, the guy told me that the self-levelling system seemed not to be letting the car down as it should. (Which would confirm my impression that tha car is a bit stiff in the rear and sensitive to uneven roads) Could this have something to do with the wheel shudder/vibrations?

The Omega I'm talking about is a 2003 2.2 Estate.

Grateful for all ideas, tips and hints!

Thanks!

Ludvig

Newbie Welcome Area / Omega beginner

Hi all!

This is exactly the site I've been looking for!

I bought my first Opel Omega a month ago. It's a 2,2 Elgance Estate, 2003 model with 110 000 kms (6 900 miles) on the clock. Surely, it is no sports car, but it rides smoothly and the trunk space is like a smaller hangar. The rear wheel drive whith no traction control is a lot of fun on the icy winter roads up here in the north (Uppsala, Sweden). :D

I have problems with the self-levelling system and wheel shudder in the rear between 60 - 80 km/h (40 -  50 mph). I'll check out the FAQ's now to see if there are any clews to the solution in there.

See you later!

Ludvig
