Omega General Help / Brake Lines
« on: 27 January 2015, 10:32:07 »
Don't you just love MOT time!

My '03 2.2 Sport tourer failed on front to rear brake lines today.  I'm struggling to find anywhere that does the complete kit and I don't want to sell a kidney to order one from the dealer, am I better off just remaking them than trying to source a replacement kit?  Or is there anyone local to Hampshire (Basingstoke area) that is breaking an estate with good brake lines?

Aside from that, a caution on rustiness underneath (pah! its a Vauxhall) and an aftermarket cat having been fitted at one time or another which just scraped through emission testing it doesn't look too bad....could have been worse I guess!

As always, any help and advice that can be given will be gratefully accepted.

Omega General Help / Front Wiper Sweep
« on: 20 December 2014, 20:23:51 »
Hi folks

An interesting problem this one, and not something the search facility has come up trumps on.  I have a 2003 2.2 Sport Estate, the front windscreen wiper sweep seems to have lost a bit of its edge....by that I mean that when the wipers sweep, the driver's side wiper seems to stop about 2" too far to the left of where I would expect the vertical position to sit.  This leaves a section up the top of the screen that is annoyingly not cleared.

All the rest of the sweep and park functions work as they should.  Neither wiper catches the scuttle panel on intermittent or permanent sweep at the bottom so I know its not that adjustment and they park exactly where expected, it just seems that the driver's wiper doesn't sweep far enough.

Has anyone had any experience of this and ergo knows of a way to fix it or is it a new wiper motor time?...and if so, does anyone have one cheap in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey borders they want gone?

Much appreciated and merry crimbo

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bose question
« on: 20 May 2007, 17:09:33 »
Took the rear parcel shelf out today because I'd spotted some loose wires in with the Bose amp tray.  Pulled them clear but I can't see where they are supposed to plug in.  Does anyone have any ideas what its supposed to plug into?  I've had a sniff around but can't see anything its not plugged in to....

I'm conused - one's a multiplug and the other looks like a small aerial lead.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bose system
« on: 28 March 2007, 09:03:48 »
Happy to say that I've just put a deposit down on an s plate elite.  I've phoned Vauxhall to get the original spec which they've emailed to me but it makes very little sense.

I know it hase the Bose system with a tape headunit with the inbuilt phone and a 6 cd changer but I don't know the spec of the system.  Can anyone shed any light on this for me at all on what it looks like, what it does etc.

Thanks guys

Omega General Help / Seat stuck
« on: 03 June 2007, 08:06:10 »
Tried using the emergency winding thing on the electric front seat the other week to see if I could free it from sticking.  Basically, the driver's seat would go all the way back but only a couple of inches forward before its stopped.

Set to winding it manually with a torx head as I didn't have the proper key.  Its come forward a good further 2 inches and I removed the front 2 seat mount bolts in the hope that I could get to the back ones, take the whole seat out and fix it.

Its now stuck.  When I wind the motor by hand, its as if the spline and thread are clicking over each other (like when you overtighten a screw and it slips the thread).  It won't go backwards or forwards, just turns, gets tighter, clicks and then goes loose again.

So a bit of advice pretty please....The seat won't go backwards or forwards.  I have the 2 front mount bolts out and the seat now rocks on the rear mounts, so its not exactly secure.  Can I remove the seat base by undoing the 4 bolts on the underside of the seat, and unplug the connectors (batt disconnected of course to stop airbag issues) to gain access to the rear 2 bolts and remove, or should I get A N other to sit in the back seat and push with all their might while I try to manually wind it forwards again?

I'm concerned that I may have knackered the spline attached to the motor which is why its just turning, but I have to do something because the seat is no longer secured on the front and the seat runners are now covering the 2 front bolt mount holes so I can't get them back in.

I reckon if I could remove the seat base from the runners in situ, I'll have better access to the rear bolts to get it all out, but looking at the way the seat is constructed, everything is upside down as if the whole seat needs to be released from the mounts before any access is given to connectors, motors etc.

Any advice guys?

Omega General Help / Speedo and rev counter "issues"
« on: 26 April 2007, 19:35:10 »
What would potentially stop a speedo and rev counter from working?

My new (to me) Elite has no rev counter and the speedo doesn't register (although I can see the needle vibrating as it rests).  Mileometer and trip meter works ok - could it be a fuse issue, or likely to be contacts?

Omega General Help / Transmission fluid capacity
« on: 12 March 2007, 15:42:49 »
Right, not going to chance anything with the replacement AR35 box I've bought, so I'm going to change the fluid and clean the filter out before it gets put in.

Does anybody have any idea how much fluid is needed from empty?  Just trying to work out whether I should get 1 litre quantities or whether I should buy a 5 litre bottle.

Newbie Welcome Area / Defected from the Dark Side
« on: 12 March 2007, 12:34:08 »
Hello all

I've migrated from VXON following the sale of a Calibra and being given an Omega.  I had a 2.016v a few years ago and always regretted getting rid of it.

Now I've been given an R reg 2.5V6 with an autobox issue that I'm very happy with.

picked up an AR35 last week to replace the current box, now I just need to pluck up the courage to change it over - damn aren't those things heavy!

Omega Gallery / Operation reverse c0ck up (literally)
« on: 13 May 2007, 16:51:01 »
Some of you may be aware that I managed to reverse my Elite into the garage door about a week ago.  I'd only had it for a week, was lovingly putting it back on the driveway having just replaced the nearside rear light that had a crack in it and had just rewired the tow bar electrics.  Backed it on to the drive and the front wheels held on the kerb.  Feathered the throttle slightly to get the front wheels over the kerb, did it too much and before I could catch the brake I'd reshaped my rear wing, bumper and garage door to boot.

The Garage door was a right mess, and had to be removed, bashed flat again and strengthened with as many odd and sod screws as I could find.  It opens and closes although I think its got a finite life from here on in.  The rear wing, however is another matter.

Thanks To Chris, who sold me the bumper from my old Omega which he is now breaking, and Ronnie has promised me a tail light he's found in his shed.  I ordered a slide hammer, and a hammer and dolly kit from Ebay last week for a repectable £30 inc postage and set about in the evenings this week bashing the sh!t out of it to try and straighten it.  Happy to say that although I'm a complete amateur, its getting there.  Its gone from this:

To this:

Still a fairly long way to go, there's one dent just behind the bottom of the arch which I can't get out for love nor money and I've tried all sort of steel bars to help.  Waiting on a "Ding King" to turn up this week which will hopefully pop the last one out and get rid of the slight bowing further back (according to a man in the know who looked at it yesterday for me).  I know its not going to be perfect, but I'm fairly happy with the results so far.  Next on the menu is to remove some of the smaller dings that I couldn't see before test spraying.  I'm waiting for a random orbital sander to turn up this week so I can start filling and sanding to get the rest of the shape back.

My theory is that I'll coat it with as much filler primer as it will hold and then use the orbital sander to key it back into shape.

As for the bumper, well the bottom half is now the correct colour since I picked up the right colour can this time and I've finished filling the scrapes that were on the old central insert which I'll use again.  Just waiting for some filler primer to dry, a soft rub down and that will be ready for spraying, so I'm hopeful that by next weekend the bumper should be pretty much ready.

Roll on next weekend.

General Discussion Area / Aircon regassed
« on: 16 June 2007, 12:17:26 »
Took the Elite down to Kwik Fit today to get the air con regassed.  Not the first place I would have thought to get it done, but a bloody good deal.

Full regas for £44.95 and if the recharge doesn't drop the coldest temperature by at least 10% then there's no charge.

Rang round locally and prices ranged from £84 from Vauxhall on their "Summer deal"...cheapest I could get was £71 and that wasn't until Monday.  I can't praise Kwik Fit enough, friendly, fast and fitted me in at a moments notice, and I've got a fridge for a car now  :)

General Discussion Area / A little seat issue
« on: 19 May 2007, 19:52:43 »
Well, got the Omega out of the garage today to wash down the filler and primer dust that had got stuck to it for the last week or so, seems much better now its all washed down.

I have a small issue with my drivers seat.  It'll only move forward so far from the right back position where it seems to get stuck and won't come any further forward.  Thought there might be something caught in the track and was going to take the seat out today but I've hit on a little problem.  Its sat far enough back to sit over the rear floor bolts and won't go far enough forward to allow access.  I've raised it righ the way uup and slid it forward so I could try and see what (if anything) is caught in the track.  Couldn't see anything, the seat comes forward and then the motor seems to get so far and then twist slightly, which is concurrent with my theory of something being stuck in the way.

Has anyone taken one of the electric seats apart from the base downwards? (is it even possible?).  Anyone got any ideas?

It won't bother me cos I'm a lanky git anyway but it'll need to be able to come forward for SWMBO to drive it.

General Discussion Area / I've had it for a week and....
« on: 03 May 2007, 20:37:32 »
....Today I managed to reverse my pride and joy into my garage door.  Just finished rewiring the towbar electrics, and had replaced the nearside rear light which had a crack in it.  Reversed it on to our driveway, the front wheels held for a moment on the kerb so I increased the throttle at just the wrong time.  Before I had a chance to hit the breake, it rolled back, into the garage door, frame and just caught the wall.

I spent the next 3 hours rebuilding my garage door - it's seriously knackered.  Nearly burst into tears when I saw the damage.  Its scraped and dented the nearside quarter panel, damaged the bumper and killed the new light that was fitted.

Is anyone good with bodywork?

Has anyone had a worse day than me?

To top it all off, when I wrenched the garage door off so I could start fixing it, one if the blooody springs from the door pinged off and crashed on to my ankle, so now that is throbbing and ballooned up.  Roll on the weekend.
