Omega General Help / Re: Front Strut Top hat alignment
« on: 26 January 2018, 02:16:12 »
As I recall it's the same principle as a Senator B and a Carlton/Omega A. In which case the alignment 'hole' has to be opposite the lower strut mount bolts. So port/starboard as you expressed it.

That said I'm not certain from your photo which is the alignment hole and which the drainage hole. I vaguely recall that the factory fit has a yellow paint mark by the hole, but I won't swear to it. If the bigger hole is in a lower part of the pressing with respect to the mounted orientation, then the alignment hole is probably the smaller one.

Are they new top mount plates? Might the originals have a paint splodge?  And maybe post up a picture of the plate viewed a bit more overhead..

As a matter of general interest how much did that lot cost?
Thanks,

Omega General Help / Re: Hedgehog!
« on: 25 January 2018, 04:24:43 »
On a more serious note, buy yourself a good pair of safety specs. With this job it's too easy to have something drop in your eyes.
I found the hedgehog fitted to a 2003 a bit easier to reach than in a 1996. The revised air duct and cable tray allow better access.
You need to remove the lower securing screws for the airbag and pull the bottom edge forward a bit. That will allow access to the, otherwise hidden, top mounting screws of the glovebox. Since you're disturbing the airbag you're well advised to have left the battery disconnected for a while before you start.

You can still Deadlock and then diss the battery, just make sure the key works correctly in the Drivers door, when unlocking all the other doors will remain deaocked untill the battery is conected again, then just re unlock using the Fob or Key again to re sync the locking system.  ;)

Not on my 2.5 CDX Saloon. Battery flattened due to one of the rear reading lights left switched on with deadlocks engaged. Only the boot could still be opened with the key. By good luck I was able to fold down a rear seat and climb in to release the bonnet catch.

You'll struggle with those terminals unless you have (or can borrow) the corresponding crimping tool with the correct jaw size for the wire and insulation. A good crimper might be pricey. A properly crimped terminal will be much more reliable than a soldered one.

Perhaps you can buy something that's pre-assembled?

General Discussion Area / Re: Strange Request

I paid with my credit card, as I've never seen Autodoc before and the item was much cheaper than anywhere else.  ::)

If it dosn't turn up, I can get the money back from the credit card company. :y
AIUI The UK credit card protection offered under UK legislation, is not infallible, and only applies to £100+ transactions.
So non-delivery for less than £100 = no refund from Visa/Mastercard.

Paypal operate their own dispute resolution under different legislation. Essentially they collect cash from you and pay the equivalent cash to the recipient. Cash transactions are subject to different rules to credit. You have less rights.

That said, I have no issue with Autodoc.

I'm wondering whether the transaction ran foul of your card issuer's anti-fraud measures. Autodoc's merchant provider may have asked for additional verification as this was an out of country customer not present transaction. The required actions were then lost in translation. Perhaps you were getting the package delivered to some other address than the billing address of your card? How much was involved?

I used a credit card with Autodoc last August. The transaction says 'Autodoc ****** Berlin', was £81 and some change. The items were delivered in an Autodoc branded box.

I wasn't asked for additional ID or photo of the card etc. PayPal is also an option.

Omega General Help / Re: Trade Club Brake kits for 2.2 Estate?
« on: 15 January 2018, 03:05:05 »
Thanks, I've order a set of rear pads as mine are getting worn. Doubt if they've ever been changed.

Is anybody able to please check the TC prices for front and rear discs and front pads?
93182283 296mm front ventilated
93182292 286mm rear solid
9192124 front pads

I let my ABS membership lapse some years ago and in any event the dealer where I was registered is defunct. It's a trek to go elsewhere so are there any easily available aftermarket alternatives that are OK? Perhaps ATE, Delphi or Meyle etc? After all ATE made the front calipers?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Door mirror maintenance
« on: 14 January 2018, 16:18:01 »
It was more a nod to some preventative maintenance given that the wagon is nearly 15 old and the replacement mirror maybe even older. Not to mention that the mirror was hard to come by, in the correct colour. I have a can of white grease and plenty of copper grease.

Omega General Help / Trade Club Brake kits for 2.2 Estate?
« on: 12 January 2018, 15:46:59 »
Do Trade Club still do brake kits (discs and pads) for Omegas? Mine is an '03 2.2 CDX auto estate, petrol.
Are the kits still worth it?
Can we still get TC prices via Andy Clears?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Red warning light
« on: 12 January 2018, 15:38:34 »
If the reservoir has dropped to the lower limit and so triggers the warning light then, assuming no fluid leak, it might well mean that the brake pads and maybe the discs are excessively worn.

Don't rely on the brake wear indicators, if they are even still present and connected.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Door mirror maintenance
« on: 12 January 2018, 01:46:42 »
I need to replace one of the door mirrors on my facelift estate. I've managed to find one on ebay. Should I dismantle it and clean and grease? Or leave well enough alone?

Omega General Help / Re: Smell of hot oil when engine is warming up
« on: 10 January 2018, 15:18:22 »
To me this means the seals on the cam covers are leaking somewhere and oil is dripping onto one or both of the exhaust manifolds. Usually because the breathers are blocked or obstructed. Could be that the leak stops when the engine gets hot. If the breathers are clear then it might be that the cam cover seals are not the original spec GM. Also the original sealant, even when used with genuine GM seals,  will eventually fail. The newer black stuff is much better.

Omega General Help / Re: Key fob not working
« on: 08 January 2018, 16:19:15 »
Done the paper clip test and it's showing wrong immobiliser code is this releated?
What fault code did you get? There are several related to the immobiliser.

As I recall on the '96 V6 CDX, that I used to have, you always got one particular immobiliser code if you tested without the engine running.
I can't recall which fault though, might have been 143.

So it could be that your fault is a red herring but it sounds like it's not eliminated in this case.

I imagine it's an Asin Warner AR25 in which case be very careful with the sump screws. They have a torque of only 12Nm/9lbf. The screws need to be evenly tightened or you risk warping the sump. The screws have locking compound on them and are very easy to cross thread in the autobox casing. If needs be use finger control and a clean screw to clear out any crud in the casing threads. Don't even consider using a tap. Do consider renewing the locking compound if you can't get new GM screws.

Also the sump plug is 1/2"AF, not 13mm as you might expect. Make sure you have a good flat sided socket and a new seal for the plug. Last one I did had a copper washer. Same size that used to be used on the engine sump plug.

I've always used a new oil pan gasket. However they're thin fragile black c**p. The preceding Carton and Senator autobox gaskets were much better.

Good luck.
