I used four lengths of wire of different colours with small spade connectors, male one end and female the other end.
Bound up with electrical tape then routed out of the way so it doesn't cause any problems then plugged in, being careful to connect the right wire to the right pin.
A computer hard drive power plug (molex type) can be used at the dispack end.

I relocated mine too.
It now sits just below the airbox.

The HT leads can be routed below the top plenum to keep it tidy too.

...and if he hasn't, I have.  :y

murph, great thread.
Thanks!  :y

after reading this am I right in thinkin that the head gasket went on the new engine?
No the gaskets were fine but all the valves are bent so the heads must come off.

Yeah but the shed is cold.

That's where I'll be sleeping if I get caught with a cylinder head (or two) in the kitchen!   :o

After a whole 60 miles the car broke down again!
My mechanic friend was convinced that the torque converter had parted company from the flex plate - how wrong he was!

What had happened was alot worse!

The bolt in the top cambelt tensioner had sheered off causing the belt to go slack and skip a few teeth, bending pretty much all the valves in the process.

However, having diagnosed the previous engine with a head gasket failure, I have the gaskets and bolts ready, along with the heads from the old engine. Swindon engines used stock heads when building this engine so nothing will be lost by swapping for the heads from the original engine.

This presents me with the opportunity to do a few things I didn't have time for when I swapped the engine, and put right a few things that I got wrong before.  Firstly, the heads are having the exhaust ports opened up to match the 3.2 manifolds.
Before:

After:

I didn't swap the dipstick tube last time as I didn't see the difference in them until after the engine was in, so that's being done now, and the heater matrix will be flushed through so hopefully I'll have some heat in the cabin.
Today saw the engine stripped down and the new heads prepared for fitting tomorrow.

Game on!

I'm just putting feelers out at this stage as I have a bad feeling about my gearbox which I just cant afford to replace.

If the car ends up being broken I will be offering the engine up for sale but I have little idea what it's worth.
Here's the spec:
Swindon racing engine no. VV019
New cam belt kit
New water pump
3.2 Exhaust manifolds fitted with GM gaskets.
Stainless steel oil cooler
Alloy rocker covers (plasitics would come with the engine)

In the short time I was driving the car with this engine fitted I found it to be very quiet and smooth with an aggressive pull at about 4000rpm.

Any ideas what it's worth?

Im still hoping to get the car running this weekend but as I said I'm not feeling too optimistic at the mo!

No worries - Robsey had a set which I now have here.
Cheers Rob!  :y

I just need to get them fitted now but I cant leave the missus long enough to work on it. I'm hoping my mate will assist at the weekend and the missus should be well enough to be left alone for a bit by then.

I hope!

Cheers for that - she's home and on the (slow) road to recovery.

I already spent my voucher when I thought the car was sorted. I treated it to some new mats..... doh!  :-X

Robsey has come to the rescue with a full set of bolts so they will be picked up on Sunday by a friend who owes a favour.  :y
