Just as an aside, are HID lights dangerous to work on in any way? because I was told by the parts people in the local Vauxhall dealer not to mess with the lights, as "they could blow your hand off"  :-/

Despite that xenons consume less power - 35W than conventional bulbs, they need ~15000V and not just 12V. In theory it could kill you, but whether they can blow hand off? The knowledge of specialists from Vauxhall knows no bounds... what they gonna do to achieve one more customer? A? ;P

make sure you dont touch any live (or turned off for that matter) connections.

Ebay often have the bulbs - phillips or osram are recommended over chinese crap.  or your local factors - but get a price 1st, they vary a lot  :y

Recently there is a lot of fakes from China on eBay, though the price will still be high to make you think the item is genuine. This doesn't just apply to xenons, but everything I noticed.

Hey, where can I get genuine Philips D2S bulbs from?

108
Replacing xenon buln is nothing different to what you do when replacing normal buls.

Where can I get genuine philips xenon bulbs from?
There are hundreds of them on ebay, but i bet most of them are not genuine.

However, in my old omega i did a conversion from normal headlights to new depo lens headlight with fitted hid conversion kit and it's still bright! So maybe there is no need to spend a lot more money on genuine philips ones?

Right, I have the parts now (£55 delivered), all I need is oil. Can you recommend good online store?

Is this oil any good? http://uleak.it/?5ds

Latex gloves, plastic bag for head, shampoo, plastic sheet to lay under car, the Mrs' favourite washing bowl etc etc

:P

btw I contacted jpat for prices...

Ok, so according to this catalogue, what part would I need?
Gaskets, filter, oil. Anything else?

I have another question though. My box makes a little rattling noise when put on R or D. Not sure whether it is the gearbox or something totally different and not related to the box, but it's worrying me :(

Right, as far as I'm concerned there is two ways for changing oil. Static and dynamic..
The guy from vauxhall garage says that they would only be able to change max 60% of oil which means static way to me, and is unacceptable. The guy meant to call me back with the price and guess what - he never called... so I might just do it myself.

Anybody knows a good online store with gaskets and filters? :) and oil?

Maybe also worth while idea to get the Auto trans filter changed at the same time if you're changing the oil, especially if you don't know when it was last done.

If your going the DIY route, here the link which should help you out on that score (Jpat), helpful and cheaper than dealer.

Is this the filter?

Waiting for a quote from the vauxhall garage. If it's any good I'll go for it, because otherwise I would have to buy all these stands etc. But we'll see ;)

Hi there,

long time no see :D (touch wood)

I have no probs with my omega, but I need to change oil in my auto box. I know how to do it, but I don't have a pit and no facilities.

Do you know how much the vauxhall garage charges for this? What's the "labour time" according to their... documentation?

...or do you think I can manage without a pit? :P

Thanks for any advice.

Thank you all for your advices, but now you gonna have to accept my appologies as the reason that I couldn't start the engine was because I left the gear stick on D. It was too early this morning to notice that, coz I never did that b4. Now at 3pm it was the first thing I saw... I'm so gutted.

Thanks again :D

You shouldn't actually be able to remove the key unless your car is in Park.  ;)

Tru, but i've managed to do that ::)

Hi there,
I have a problem. This morning I couldn't start the engine in my omega. All lights are coming up, battery is fine, but when I turn the key to start the engine - nothing is happening like it has something to do with the immobilizer.
I've never had that problem before, so I've disconnectged the battery for few minutes, but it didn't help so I've left the battery disconnected till I get back from work.
I don't know otherwise.

Do you guys have any ideas of what could go wrong?

Thanks in advance

Your immobiliser still allows the engine to turn, just not fire. You say nothing is happening ..... I assume you mean it's not turning over on the starter.  :-/

Yes that's what I meant, it's not even turning. I've tried both keys I have.
