How shortly  ;)

Don`t throw the old one away -
If it is destined for the bin, I will gladly send a courier over to collect it.  Its on my list of "curisoity" items that I would like to have a play with at sometime

 :-?

Dave - it's yours when i change it.  Whilst you're on - what wiring change does one have to do to stop my aftermarket stereo losing battery power with the ignition off - something about swapping 2 wires on the DIN?

Will it not be different calibration from mine (reading the bit from the FAQ section) - or is it just the display part?  Mine's a 2.0 16v auto

The MID on mine appears to be losing pixels by the hour - but i've only had it 8 hours!  When I picked it up, it was readable.  By the time i got home, i get about 4 pixels/character.  Can they be repaired, or is it a case of finding a replacement (which I gather from the FAQ are car dependant)?

Hi all,

Back again after a shopping spree and have been busy fitting an X30XE into my Scimitar GTE (been done once before and a few more being done by the sounds of it) but have a few problems, mainly because I didn't remove the lump myself (it was destined for an Opel Kadett but the guy decided to go Rover V8 instead for some reason).  His loss, my gain - I ended up with an X30XE with manual gearbox from an ex-Police estate.

Gearbox drain plug - is it a common size, or do I need to visit a stealer for one?

Have managed to figure out most of the vacuum circuit aside from i'm missing one; the feed for the fuel pressure regulator.  Does it, like the multiram feeds, come off the servo feed?

I've still got to fully figure out the wiring; there might be the odd question on that if you guys don't mind?  I had a Haynes manual from when I had my Mig, but I'm blowed if I can find it!

I'm sure if you spoke to someone like Wilwood, they'd be able to do you a kit - but would probably cost more than your wheels!

Lotus Carlton - if you could find some - maybe?

Omega General Help / ABS ECU Fix - but not the usual culprit!
« on: 19 September 2009, 22:06:03 »
This afternoon, Cybertrucker and I managed to fix his non-functioning TD Speedo (and everything else that needs a speed signal)..

This is a pre-facelift, so wasn't an ECU failure per se, but it took another unit to fix (from my 2.0).  All became evident as we took the connector off the existing one - a corroded, charred mess presented itself!  Looks like there had been some fluid spilt on it at some point, and the really important pin (out to the speedo, steering, cruis, sunroof etc) had actually broken off in the housing.

Within a couple of hours, we'd reassembled the connector with parts from the donor unit (and a new wire/pin) and it works!  Speedo is spot on (or seems to be).

Is it just V6 ones that are a pig to do?  Took about 10 minutes to remove it from my 2.0 and as much on the TD - rest of the time was rebuilding the connector!

EDIT - there were a lot more wires on my 2.0 one than the TD - is this because the BMW engine doesn't need the speed signals to the ECU?

Do the checks, but I'd reckon on the glow-plugs being naffed.

As 'TheBoy' says - change all six, and don't use cheapo Ebay ones.
Reputable motor factors flogged me a set of NGKs for 36 quid-ish - well worth the cash!

While you're at it, change ALL the leak-off pipes as a matter of course. Buy a length, I got 2 metres for a fiver! (NQA).
GSF do BERU ones pretty cheaply as well - not sure about the BMW engine, but they're the only ones which last on Citroen/Pug diesels.  I've got the leak off pipe from halfrauds in the past - even includes the little rubber end caps and still does the job.

Radseal may not work if there is a crack in the plastic part (in fact it probably won't) and will most likely cause more problems in the future.  If money is tight, then consider a second hand radiator (I believe there is an Omega spares breaker near Heathrow Airport) for now.  Swapping one over should take not very long at all - an hour or so?

Parts for the cambelt change should be about £70 (use good parts only) - haven't done mine but it looks to be easy as there is a lot of room at the front (unlike the V6 cars).

One is the throttle pot - and will probably upset it.  Not sure on the other one...hope for your sake it isn't the crank sensor..

Now I've realised that the crank sensor was only replaced 10 months ago.... is it likely it could go again so soon ?
If it wasn't a genuine one, then maybe...

You can use either new, original ally ones or anything thats normally used on a Banjo joint (copper - i.e. sump plug washers - or I used Dowty seals just because i had some kicking about).

I'd say it sounds like a temporary reprieve - get a crank sensor while you have the chance...

Genuine Vauxhall on a Trade Card used to be favourite, but looks like they're not supplying decent quality stuff now.  I've got one from "eternalcar" off ebay and it seems fine.  It's aftermarket, but so is Vx stuff nowadays by the looks of it.  Cheap, quick delivery (given it comes from Germany) and fits right.

Might be worth starting a new thread for Exhaust recommendations..?

Didn't mean anything by the 1200rpm comment - just an example of how a gently driven car needs the occasional "exercise"..
