the Alpine amp does have a sub output, i have been thinking about this as an alternative......

split the rear shelf and door speakers, have the shelf speakers running from the sub output and having a low gain on them.

Run the front and rear door speakers from the other 4 available channels that way i still only have the one amp.

i know the amp will handle it, but i am talking rubbish?

I want to get this right so when i change the miigy next year it will be easy to do the conversion into the new one

the set up is a bit crude, i will explain  :)

I have remove the Bose amp, connected phono leads to the inputs on the bose and then connected the speakers to the amp.
the amp is an Alpine MRV-F407 amp. Currently i have the fronts on one channel and the rear on another, this in itself poses an issue as the door and shelf speakers are all running from the same channel, something that seems to be the same as the Bose amp.

Hope that makes sense

here is the original installation thread.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / frequency range of speakers
« on: 18 June 2007, 18:29:22 »
Bit of an od question i know, but i am trying to set up my alpine amp to suit the frequency range of the speakers in my miggy.

I still have the standard Bose set up in the car as well as the head unit, i am finding it has a lot of tone even when the tone is set to mid on the HU.

If anything i would prefer to have it a bit more rich and bassy, not boom boom just more body to it

TIA

for a standard fit system it is very good indeed, it was one of the reason i bought my Eilte.

Saying that mind you i took the standard amp out shortly after and replaced it with an Alpine unit and that boosted the performance considerably

i bought a set from ebay about a year ago, cost me about £35 and came with a small digital display that tells me in CM's how far away i am from the object.

mine is pretty accurate, i had to drill the bumper and paint them, but they look factory fitted and they are a brilliant AID to parking, especially in tight spaces.

i have the harman kardon kit as well, it really is excellent.

i bought mine from this ebay shop

the new version 2 looks fantastic and if it offers bluetooth handsfree then it is even better and more useful than before

on the recommendations of Sounds2K i use the H/K drive and play, it really is the mutts danglies and excellent value on fleabay.

Easy to fit, with the usual ipod interface and the security of having the ipod tucked in the armrest.

I had this dilemma when i put my amps into my miggy....

I like the look of the standard fit unit, plus on face value the car looks like it has a normal stereo installed so doesnt attract the attention of the local chav's

With some creative thinking i managed to get to a point where i am happy with the sound and still have the ability to add an ipod, and still end up better off than had i put a different head unit in

ATEOTD it is down to personal choice

114
if i was trying to do what you want top achieve i would be looking at taking a feed from the rear speakers, soldering some phono connections to them and that would be your sound to the Amp.

I don't know that this is a way of having the RCA connectors direct out of the head unit

115
ne the sort of thing you are referring to, however i had the Bose set up and so already had all the speaker cables running to the boot of the car.
Mine head unit didn't have pre outs on it, all i did was to buy some goo quality phono leads and solder them on to the speaker cables, i then ran a fused power lead, a seperate earth and a switched remote lead to the back of the car to control the amps
My current set up is an alpine 4 channel running the speakers in the car and another amp running 2x12inch subs in an enclosure, the subs make a hell of a difference to the sound quality.

Overall cost was not that bad, it was a lot of time spent running wire and soldering connection, but the end result was worth it  :y

cheers chaps, its off to the bay of E we go........

One of my buttons has collapsed, its the one that switches between functions, i have tried to repair it but it won't have it...

Does anyone know if the button sets are different pre and post facelift? Mine are a chocolate bronw, but if i have to change them to black that wouldn't be a hardship

117
One of the buttons on my controls no longer works, is it possible to swap the control for a set that do or will i be looking at a complete steering wheel?

The Xenons on my facelift do the same when going over big bumps, the light seems to 'shudder' a bit.

better late than never ... the best on I've found is the harman kardon "drive & play" - manufacturer's web site here, for sale on fleabay here for £85 inc. VAT and delivery.

it looks like this:

the control unit is about the same size as a mobile phone handsfree unit, so gets tucked out of sight. The controller and screen are sited in the cabin near the driver, the cable to the ipod is fairly long but on mine the ipod sits in the glovebox, locked away. The wired FM modulator (2nd pic) comes with UK versions of the kit as FM transmission isn't allowed here (plus if my experience with a griffin itrip auto is anything to go by, are a waste of time in the miggy anyway)

It connects to the radio by either a supplied 3.5mm plug to twin phono plug (ie, hardwired aux input) which is the preferred option - or via the FM modulator - I had to choose this option as I've got the bose setup in mine. You get a bit of white noise during quiet bits of music if the volume is up - but it's not really a problem and probably what you'll always get with FM anyway?

Normal retail price is about £130-ish, I took the easy route and got it installed whilst I was on holiday though - cost me £200 (supplied and fitted) all in, the sharp eyed may have spotted it in the recent pics of my miggy :)

I am liking that a lot, however i am running out of space in my miggy what with the reverse sensor display, sat nav and phone.........

on the 'other' site i remember there was a conversation about fitting an iPod connection to the standard fit vaux radios.
Someone posted a kit that could be purchased that would hold the iPod and allow the unit to be used with the vaux radio, it spliced into the aerial connection, i can't find the link and i can't remember who made the kit, can anyone help?

Cheers
