General Discussion Area / Any electrician here?

So, I'm trying to repair an old Marantz cd player. Till now I found a power supply unit is dead. Searching for fault and following the connections on circuit board I found out that voltage 230v doesn't even reach the transformer because of this (at least I think so) faulty thingy - the roundy in the middle Does anyone know what it is? I think it's a capacitor but there's been a "few" years from my school times... :o Sorry for such an off topic TID Stan

General Car Chat / Re: 98 Renault Megane - Cutting out & over revving
« on: 30 December 2011, 10:58:53 »
If you're lucky, it will be a cheap fix. I had scenic with the same engine and the same problem. Talking about renault problems....name it, i fixed it (or was trying to  :P) Engine should look like this .... and what you're looking for is MAP or mass air flow sensor looking like this and lives (if you take a look at the first picture) under thet viper blade compartment in front of the fire wall on pic's up right. There is a rubber hose going onto the MAP sensor. It's probably rotted. Unplug it and engine will cut of. Replace it and I hope it will be ok. I hope you have this simple problem

Well, thank you both. It's probably more important what thickness is the oil at operating temperature than the outside temperature. As long as the engine works ilas it should there is no reason for concern I suppose. Thank you (As for my English I  would apologize, I don't use google translate because I ROFL if I try and see the final result of translation  ::) )

I do not drink, I say only that  original oil was more liquid  from other oil 10W 40 and I was wondering if this is normal or is something wrong with my oil

I know, just wrote it a bit confusing. When draining old oil it was like water. But brand new oil wasn't much better, still too liquid. No thickness in it. Really strange

I hope so...See, valvoline was very thick liquid, gm was a bit thicker than some vegetable oil. And it's minus five deg here. Oh, and the hot/warm old oil from my engine was almost as liquid as water

Specs are the same but GM oil is way of density compared to the others semi synt... Is that ok?

Anyway, I change oil every 6000 km, because that's just when my hydraulic lifters start to hear, but it's not bad, only when engine is cold and even that isn't alarming. Engine has 230.000 km on clock, When oil is fresh and new, engine is very quiet

Just changed oil on my Omega yesterday, and oil filter...air filter..etc. I'm using this oil Today, an our ago I changed oil and other things on VW polo 1.4  owned by brother in law.
The thing is, comparing GM 10w 40 and his Valvoline 10w 40, GM oil seems like water. Is that the same as your experiences, guys? TID , Stan

Had a sewere toothache for three days now. Eating pills with big spoon  >:( Yesterday I went to the dentist on duty, no difference, still hurts as hell. Now I'm in Ljubljana, 50 miles away. Been on x-ray, only thing I saw was the word "urgent' . Dam...d, happy december and winter blah blah.... Only ones I hate more than dentists are hairdressers. I'd rather see all teeth drilled than going to hairdresser...like long hair... Tooth hurts BUT driving in my omega makes it a bit better, just love it  8)
