Omega General Help / Re: quench the barge's thirst !!!
« on: 09 August 2007, 16:59:53 »
hmmm ... maybe that's just how it is then!!!

I changed the spark plugs and all filters (including fuel) soon after purchase which was about 5 months ago now. As it's a 2002 (52-plate) model the paperclip test won't work. But the engine management light comes on and goes off as expected at startup and there's no noticeable idling or other issues.

It's just that having bought the Saab 9000 - which is an almost identical power output and a similar weight - it's not only noticeably faster but on the return trip from Plymouth where it was collected (a 250 mile trip each way), the omega used £10 more petrol with the occasional bout of thrashing of both ... which to me is a significant difference ...

Omega General Help / quench the barge's thirst !!!
« on: 09 August 2007, 15:22:07 »
Hi folks,

I'm concerned about the economy (or lack thereof) of my barge. Admittedly it's a 3.2V6 auto which is never going to be economical per se - however (as an example) yesterday I put in £20's worth when the range was showing about 7 miles left, drove 60 miles of which about 45 was on a return trip which included about 80% motorway driving, the remainder was the usual urban stuff but not stop/start. It then said range was 29 miles. This would put the range of that £20's worth at approx. 82 miles - working out to an average of 17.85 MPG - which strikes me as a bit juicy !!!

I tried resetting the trip computer whilst on the motorway on the way back recently, it said about 25-26 MPG whilst remaining on the motorway, but once off it dropped down to about 23MPG by the end of the journey.

Is this normal as such - I don't expect miracles round down but on a run it seems to be a bit thirsty?

If not, where should I start looking? I was considering changing all the inlet manifold, throttle body and breather "top hat" seals ...

Omega General Help / Re: I have an auto but want a manual
« on: 02 August 2007, 23:29:03 »
.. just as an aside, the fld/vision message is referring to the self-levelling sensor for the HID headlights that your facelift CDX has - check the sensors on the front offside wishbone and the one at the back (don't know exactly where that one is though  ::))

Omega General Help / Re: Omega won't start, not CPS
« on: 23 July 2007, 19:57:48 »
hopefully just a fuse somewhere!! I'm guesstimating that the non-starting issue may be related to the immobiliser?

... perhaps there's a wiring fault linked to your car kit power issues and the intermittent connection is no longer intermittent  ::)

I hope you didn't take it to Kings on the Medway City Estate - who couldn't find an idling fault on a car with no.4 spark plug well FULL of oil ...

Omega General Help / Re: squealing brakes
« on: 24 July 2007, 17:06:52 »
mine had new-ish delphi pads on the front, which had two problems - one being that they'd click when first braking - which I guess was the pads moving in the caliper - the other being squealing. I tried reseating, applying copper grease to the back of the pads and the guides on the caliper, no joy.

Replaced the discs and pads for genuine Vx items - both problems went away ...

blue magnecor leads are good but from memory about £130 inc. VAT - still cheaper than Vx ones which are approx. £90 PER SIDE  :o

Omega General Help / Re: whats this?
« on: 18 July 2007, 17:01:25 »
well that's definitely the oil filter housing, I assume the picture was taken from underneath, but you need to double check that there's no oil from on the top of the housing (which would indicate the leak coming from elsewhere), if not then the sealing ring that fits to the cap (and is supplied with the filter ... well genuine ones at least) may be missing ...

Omega General Help / Re: Rear Brake Pad Fitting Kit??
« on: 14 July 2007, 23:55:50 »
Vx rear brake kit (P/N 9193476) supposedly comes with the anti-rattle springs and retaining pins. However the pins are available seperately - P/N 90509231 and springs are P/N 90509233 (assuming your rear discs are solid not vented)

... when are you looking to buy and how much are you looking to spend, I might be selling mine in about a month's time ... 3.2 auto elite estate on a 52-reg plate with just over 90k on the clock - cam belt, tensioners & water pump changed about 4 months ago ... ???

elite has quite a few toys to keep you busy, plus the bose stereo which is pretty good for a factory fit unit. However the suspension is set up for cruising rather than throwing it around ... the MV6 is better in that respect, but doesn't have the bose stereo, sunroof, heated rear seats and a few other toys.

To my knowledge, the sat nav (standard on 3.0/3.2, optional on 2.5/2.6) is the same head unit (NCDC2013 / NCDC2015 with phone), the later 3.2's had a colour display (optional on earlier models and smaller engines) - although you then get a map the software behind it is the same. The version I have does NOT have postcode entry for address, perhaps this has changed with a later software version?

Oh and the 3.2 auto has a big thirst around town ... mine won't even see 20MPG with local driving  :(

... and make sure you carry a spare crank sensor  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Pollen filter
« on: 06 July 2007, 08:20:47 »
it depends on if your omega is a facelift model or not. If not then it's a white coloured filter, if facelift they use an activated charcoal (grey coloured) one, this is required if you use the automatic air recirculation feature. If you don't then you can get away with the (cheaper) non-activated charcoal one.916

cheapo (older) filter is P/N 93182438 (or maybe 90510338)
activated charcoal type is P/N 93165208 (which supersedes 9162646)

Omega General Help / Re: Tie rod removal
« on: 05 July 2007, 19:10:06 »
.. do yourself a favour, pop down your local motor factor or halfrauds, buy the laser tools splitter (part number 0282), as shown below:

... perfect for removing the tie rods, makes doing so laughably easy compared to smacking the hell out of it with a fork-type splitter - plus it doesn't destroy the boot in the process  :y
