Omega General Help / Intermittent EML when start up.
« on: 30 June 2007, 18:30:25 »
Just been trying to sort out a fault that has been rearing its ugly head over the last couple of days. When i start the car and put into drive the car is trying to lurch forward. Other times starts and runs o.k.

Cleaned out the oil around the plugs. Changed plugs for new Vauxhall ones. New gasket and sealed. Checked to see if the oil had made its way back around plugs but bone dry. Took off throttle body and cleaned. Also breathers and other pipes.

Started up and ticked over and responded to throttle.
When Mrs. DaveL went to go out in car engine started but revs up at 1500, no throttle response. Auto gearbox check with EML lit. Switched off and on a couple of times and fault still same.

Of course when i tried engine perfect....tried the engine after Mrs Davel left for work and fault came back. Change cam shaft sensor for known good still same. No vacuum pipes off or rubber pipe work leaking.

When the fault comes on there is no response to the throttle just steady revs, am i right in thinking it must be the throttle body or connection to it, remember mine is fly by wire.

Your thoughts would be appreciated and i am sorry for the long story.

Thanks for the reply,I have one thin pipe already going to a rubber stub near the top pipe.

This in turn goes across to the right hand bulkhead. Cannot see where this small pipe would fit.

Even looked for a similar point on the bottom hose to see if this short pipe would go there. So unless there is another point or both vacuum pipes go in there then ..... :question

I do not believe that the rest are as stumped as me. :o :o

Omega General Help / Vacuum pipe on top of HBV on 2.2 facelift.
« on: 26 June 2007, 20:59:46 »
Just been cleaning around the engine on my 2.2 petrol Mega. Found that the vacuum pipe to the HBV although connected to the top of the valve is not fitted to any where else. Have tried moving the pipe about to see if it fits but cannot for the life of me see.  :-[

Put me out of my misery and tell me please. :'( :'(

Mine did exactly the same when i first got the car. Being that way inclined i took the switch unit apart to see if i could see what the problem was. Found one of the flimsy connections on the side of the switch was dirty. Cleaned it with a fibreglass pen put the unit back together but after another month again the thing broke. Managed to get a second hand one from a breakers and, touch wood, it is still going well after 18 months.

So try to get one off flea bay or from a breaker. Would not like to guess at the price from a stealer.

Omega General Help / Re: Knocking suspension
« on: 17 June 2007, 11:12:50 »
Very common problem, have changed many on Carltons and also Fords. As Hotel 21 said easy peesy to do just make sure the nuts are tight on the connecting swivel or the fault will soon come back. I have found that with the use more of the ''speed bumps'' that the links fail on a regular basis.

Also check the suspension spring on the struts. again these break with the coil usually in a place that you cannot see i.e right at the top under the wing.

Omega General Help / Re: Brake pad wear sensor
« on: 26 May 2007, 08:51:13 »
Mine broke off when i changed pads recently on my face lift Omega. :'(

Do not have the benefit of a TC and being tighter than a ducks a*se thought about how i could repair it.

1. Drilled down the side if the new brake pad with a 1/8" drill. Just where the spring attaches to the metal plate. The closer to the backing plate the better as explained later.

2.Cut the piece of plastic off the wire sensor. Soldered the separated wire together and insert into the drilled hole. Sealed hole and held in wire with Araldite metal two pack. Waited while Araldite cured and then fitted pad into calliper.

As the pad wears down and rubs through wire, open circuit will give a pad/brake warning. Jobs a good one and £12 to £8 saved. :y :y

Should be able to use similar system on other Omega/cars with rub through sensors on brake pads.

Omega General Help / Re: AIR CON COMMPRESSOR - LEAK
« on: 26 May 2007, 08:33:51 »
I think you will find it is a replace not repair. :'( :'(

There was a link on an earlier thread for discounted air con parts to forum members. Afraid it will probably be expensive but i have no knowledge on car air con systems only commercial ones.

Sure other peeps on site with more experience will help...stand by. :y

Omega General Help / Re: Squeaking wipers
« on: 22 May 2007, 07:49:28 »
Have noise from my front wipers but seems to be coming from the spindles. Only now and again though. i am hoping to take the wipers off from the spindles and spray good old WD40 down there and hope for the best. If not i will have to bite the bullet and grease up the spindles.

The noise from the wipers IMO i have found to be how they 'attack' the glass. That is if they are putting the rubber so it sweeps across the glass to remove the water. Looks as though yours are ready for a change.

i too have an estate and agree the rear wiper is crap, not as good as my works car (F**d F*c*s Estate)

i have changed the tension on the spring that holds the arm to the glass. This has helped a lot but you miss a section at the top most part of the glass in front of the rear centre brake light. If you do try this make sure you do not make it too tight as it will eventually grind grit and crap into the glass.

Hiya mate
I used to work on the RAC, there is a device that will open the door without any damage, there is also an electrical way of opening the door (cannot say).
If you ain't in the RAC, you can join for about £35.00 basic cover, wait 24 hours then call them out, it may be worth the £35 rather than damaging the door card.

Welcome to the forum stoxman..as markjay has said you will more than likely be looking at vandalising your door card to get in.  :'( :'(

Is the door dead locked?

There is a device on the market, that some garages may, have that may over come your problem. Another long shot would be if you a member of the AA (not te drinking variety) they may be able to help. [smiley=wink.gif]

DaveL

Would the AA/RAC consider this an emergency? Surely they will not turn out just because your passenger has to climb over to get into their seat ;)

If you do not ask you will never know. ::)
