Take the aux belt off to eliminate any noises from air con/alternator/ idler pulleys.

The crank case valve on the top of the engine  are a GM stock item and can make strange noises come from the engine.

Loosening the oil cap while running ( keeping the cap in situ) to see if any noises change.

All cheap to try.

Many a horror story to come.

Just being in the similar sized block opposite watching this disaster will be enough for some.

A lot of the external leaks vaporise or are just not visible from general inspection unless your running a nice concentrate of red/pink antifreeze.

2.8 Ford Granada Estate with central locking. Going to visit my wife in hospital after an operation, when I started smelling a burning smell, decided it was from the car in front, until I saw the smoke from the top of the door cards. Fortunately, I've always kept a tool roll in the boot and although it felt like slow motion, that is the quickest I've ever disconnected a battery. Couldn't see across the car for smoke, but fortunately no fire. Worked out where the fuse was and removed and limped back home. Jumped on my motorbike and got the the hospital, just as visiting time was ending to be greeted by the wife shouting... and where the hell have you been! >:(

Took the door cards off to find 5 melted central locking solenoids. The closer they were to the battery, the more burn't they were. As they were about £35 each, I never bothered replacing them along with the momentary solonoid.

On site doing an inspection on a 18t  MAN 4x4 when the starter motor jammed on. took seconds to start smoking.

As said the quickest battery disconnection ever with fire extinguisher to hand but luckily not needed.

Using a mobile forklift style vehicle lift to do a service and repairs on a rover 200 bubble.

Rear brake shoes needed replacing. Rear wheel off and drum, took the shoes to the bench to disassemble.

30 seconds later the little rover decided to swan dive off the lift.

Down with the shutters while a plan was devised to separate the mess ::)

That might work better if the removable bits were just spring loaded instead.

But I doubt it.  ;D

On the same principle, just take a huge socket, fill it with liquid metal (chemical, not literal), plonk it over the nut and wait for it to go off. Abracadabra.

I was going to suggest using an air chisel, but having used "quick steel" on a side board hinge repair.

The above suggestions well worth a try.

The only time ive needed a press was on my Citroen van where the front wheel bearings about 5" big.

Any other job, burn/cut bash out , and bash in.

Home made kit similar to the one posted for hgv spring eye bushes.

Yep. Still got mine in full working order. Comes out to play on the slopes. No matter how many times you tumble, its still there when you want to find out which bar everyones in.
