Omega General Help / Eibach Springs
« on: 30 May 2011, 22:31:53 »
I have taken the plunge after both rear springs being broken to replace with Eibach's with a a 30mm lowering, these will be fitted with Bilstein B4's to a 2.6 saloon, my question is when the car is lowered does the tracking need redoing and if so does the car still use the standard geometry setup on a lazer alignment rig? Also do Eibach front camber bolts need to be fitted?

Thought I would ask before fitting because I believe a lot of owners have fitted this combination to their cars.

Thanks

Not sure what a Steinmetz is, but just purchased Eibach springs with a 30mm lowering for my 2002 2.6 CD. Bought them from www.haloperformance.com along with new B4 shocks.

Omega General Help / Re: Front Wishbone Question
« on: 28 February 2011, 13:22:11 »
Funny you should say that about the steering idler was going to do that as well, list is:

Track rods inner and outer
Steering idler
Wishbones
Anti roll bar drop links
Front anti roll bar bushes.

One other question, anything on the rear I need to worry about, got no clonks but found that does not mean a lot because havent got any noises from the front but obviously an issue. Car has done 36000 miles so far in its life.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Front Wishbone Question
« on: 28 February 2011, 12:00:20 »
My car is all over the place, always correcting the wheel to keep in a straight line and fast corners are scary. My question is if the front wishbones are replaced which appears to be the cause does the tracking need to be redone, car actually runs true on straight road and tyre wear is fine, track rods have no movement either. I had it aligned about 6 months ago and dont really want to have to do it again unless I have to.

Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Re: Engine temp question 2.6
« on: 22 February 2011, 20:50:02 »
Thanks for the replys as far as I can see the fans are either on or off. When on the temp goes back down to normal rapidly. I will get them checked at the next service next month.

Omega General Help / Engine temp question 2.6
« on: 22 February 2011, 13:18:24 »
Ever since I have had the Omega the engine temperature has been a worry. In normal driving the temp gauge sits just below the half way mark, 85 I think it is. However once I get stuck in heavy traffic the gauge goes up to nearly 100 before the fans kick in and brings it back down to temperature where the whole thing starts again until normal running again. I had the thermostat replaced when the cambelt was done also had the coolant flushed and refilled and it still does it. My Mitsubishi the gauge never moves from the half way mark whether in traffic winter or summer. Is this normal on the Omega for the engine to get so hot before the fans kick in?

Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Cambelt and Thermostat
« on: 05 April 2010, 15:44:34 »
Hi

I have the car going in for a cambelt and waterpump change next week however I took the car out yesterday noticed that the temperature only gets to about 80 in normal driving however when stuck in traffic it went up to just below 100 which is when the fans cut in and it dropped back to just about half way, my question is this normal? My other car is a VR-4 and the temp never gets above half way ever when warmed up. If its a faulty thermostat is it best to get it done at the same time does it make easier when the cambelt is being replaced and save labour time?

Thanks

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi all
« on: 30 March 2010, 11:31:36 »
I am new on the board, purchased a 2 owner 2002 Omega 2.6 CD with all the books and old MOT's as a dealer px with 29000 on the clock, its really nice and drive is quiet and tight. Mine is the one with the beige interior which I wasn't sure about but makes the car so much lighter and my wife loves the colour contrast between black and beige. Only downside so far is fixed intermittent wiper sweep which I have to be honest I just assumed it had variable and cruise control would have been nice because it really suits the laid back driving style.

General Car Chat / Re: Corsa 1.2 twin port - poor fuel economy

We have a 1.2 twinport 05 plate like you for our son and the wife uses it. It is used as shopping trolley and soley around town and the odd trip down the M3 to Basingstoke as a treat few times a year. It starts cold twice a day and does a full tank in 220 miles about a months driving, however drove it to Cornwall and back once when I had no choice it did 220 miles on half a tank with the a/c on as well at the legal limit. I think that was pretty good.

I am just in the process of upgrading my CD to the MV6 bumper, its just been sprayed up and looks lovely, got mine from a breakers for £55.00 inc fogs and washers, came off of a low mileage 2.2 Sport with a broken cambelt in A1 condition, such a shame no one wanted to fix it, felt guilty.

Agreed engineered to last, just had the MOT on mine and not one advisory, 4th clean MOT, though it has only just passed 60k miles so fairly low mileage I guess. My wife loves it, she wont drive the Omega its to big, but can't get her out of the Legnum even driving long distances.

I smile still every time I turn the key. Good luck with the bidding on the Galant.

I am fortunate enough to also own a 1997 Legnum VR4 and absolutely love it so quick especially in tip mode, bought it direct from Japan 4 years ago with a warranted 45 kms on the clock and it had never seen snow let alone salt.

Beware of two things on the Galant/Legnum, corrosion in the suspension turrets if been in the UK a few years they are double skinned rot inside out and part prices are on a different planet than Vauxhall.

Sorry also forgot to say front wheel drive versions strip their drive shaft splines because they are too short going into the diff. If you can can find a good one as others have said get the VR4, mind blowing.
