So repairs to wall aside what would be the position with my car ?
Do I claim off her for the inevitable write-off...or should I contact my car insurance company and let them know ??

Hi Guys.
Need some advise on best way forward with this please.
During the night my neighbours wall has collapsed in the wind and has come crashing down onto my car.Looking at the extent of the damage...roof/bonnet/rear wind /both passenger side doors it looks like its beyond repair.
Spoke to her first thing this morning and told her she needs to speak to her insurance company to let them know what has happened,as she is quite a reasonable person.
Question is do I let me insurance company know ?
Car is damaged through no fault of mine so do I tell my car insurance company ?
Do I tell my household insurance company ??
Or do I wait for her to let me know .
At present I am unable to go to prebooked jobs today so have that financial loss too.
Guidance on correct path of action appreciated.

I found fitting 2 long cable ties on the metal T bar release the first time I had to remove things aided future maintenance.

Well that arent getting off the hook with me this time..they can either fix it or I will get somebody else to do it properly and they can whistle for payment....Im just fed up with people doing shoddy work  >:(

Thanks Al :y

Could somebody post up a picture of trim fitted flush so I can point out the error of their ways on Monday .

Can’t do picture of mine as it’s “well fitted slightly wrong !!!”

rather gallons to get the trim fitted flush  ;D

Well they have picked on the wrong guy to sod about this time. >:(

Monday morning I will be speaking to insurance company as even rubbing magic bean juice on the trim fitted will not get it flush to the bodywork.

Had national Windscreens out today to replace my front screen which had 2 cracks from winter motorway driving.

Pleasant enough guy who seemed to understand how things worked so left him to get on with it .Explained that the last time screen was replaced several years ago the outer trim hadnt been fitted correctly and parted company with the car on the M4 ." Dont worry sir I have fitted loads of the screens over the years and never had a problem " !!

Fatal last words.

Knock on the door some 2 hours later saying all done and was difficult getting old screen out so had to call another fitter to help, but its all done now and will you sign my paperwork that the job is done and pay the excess.

When I looked at it the upright outer rubber trim was about 10mm away from the body work and creased and wrinkled along the edges...Thats not correct I said and Im not happy with that and will not be paying excess of £95 until its corrected. He then told me that it would settle in the heat from the sun and within 24/48 hours it would be flush with the body work.

I questioned him as to what they do when they fit them in the winter as no heat from the sun and was advised they use a heat gun to get it flush,so I sent him away with another ear bashing on poor workmanship and waited for the call from his office.Less that 20 minutes after he had gone got the Manager ringing asking why I hadnt paid the excess and that his fitter had done a proper job .

When I told him I wasnt paying for poor workmanship and parts he then told me he would contact his accounts dept who would persue me for non payment .Needless to say I welcomed any action they wished to bring my way and told him I would be raising my complaint with my Insurance Company who in fairness called me straight back to discuss things fully.

Bottom line is we need to give it the weekend to see if this trim has magically shrunk back to the body work and if not a new screen trim would be ordered and refitted again.

Why dont they just do the job right !!!

Mr very angry from Kent >:(

Agree with not leaving the lifting eye out of the puzzle ,although I found opening the hole in it made alignment alot easier...almost a simple job  ;D

Suggest you run the bolt in with nothing inplace to ensure the thread isnt damaged that way the bolt should clean things up.

I opened the hole on the lifting eye with a 10mm drill which made the entire process much easier as you then have some tolerance getting the bolt correctly aligned and it all goes back tight and in place.

I doudt if any omega is ever going to have the lifting plates used now given the age of even the youngest of them  :y

Albs.....we seemed to both be afflicted with the perils of " La France"

SWTSMBO has also has a 1.2TCE clit almost from new on an 58 plate. To be fair it has been quite a good car and does go like a rocket when you get the turbo spinning up ,although I get shouted at for driving it too fast on the rare occasions I drive it.

It has only have usual service items during its life with the most annoying thing being the heater resistor making the interior fan only run on speeds 1 or 4 ,which a rewiring and new resistor cured.Other than that its been pretty bomb proof....so must of been built before lunch on either a Monday or Tuesday  ;D

All my car usage is tax deductable hence why I have never really worried too much about the Omegas costs

Trust me Albs...your not alone there and with the replacement speedo head added to the mileage mine is now on 238k and still in daily use, some days doing 120+ miles all of which I thoroughly enjoy driving ....just not the fuel but that is atleast tax deductable  ;D

Bought mine 7 years ago for 1k from back street dealer in Luton who didnt really know what it was tbh.It was in a poor state mechanically but body work was straight and MOT history read well only having 2 former owners and only failures on tyres and bulbs.

Got it home and spent as much time as I could spare going from back to front replacing brakes/suspension/tyres ,also lots of silly little broken bits on the inside costing around 1.5k.

Have now driven it for the past 6 years and done over 130k miles with only the usual wear out bits like brakes/tyres etc....recon have spent another 3k over that time which would of spent on any car I imagine as less than £500 a year with the high mileage I cover.

I can say without doudt its the best car I have ever owned and still get comments from people about how few of them are now on the road and how well its cared for and looks which is some thing for a 18 year old car.

If you dont intend to do alot of the service work yourself you would be wise seeking a different car as they need a good knowledge which sadly few garages now have and will just see it as a cash cow
