General Car Chat / Paper clip test (Astra ?)
« on: 27 December 2011, 12:07:37 »
Hi all and merry Xmas to you. I have a question not for me but for my M8 who lives out in Germany, you see his engine management light has come on and it sounds like the engine has gone into limp mode. Now i have suggested to him that he has it code read to determine  what the fault is but like the Omegas is he able to carry a paper clip test on a Astra before entering the Garage Doctors. Many thanks Steve.  ??? :y

Omega General Help / Front wheel bearing
« on: 17 December 2011, 18:50:08 »
Hi all looks very much like my front wheel bearing is trying to escape started knocking whilst travelling and got progressively worse as i limped home on inspection wheel looks to be sat at an angel and is certainly knocking when rocked. Question is would this be a job that i could under take or would it need garage surgery.  Also where would be the best most reasonable place in which to source a part. Many thanks guys and  merry Christmas to you all  :y :y :y :y

Also drive a 2.2 and to have suffered with the tap tap noise i first thought it was the lifters so treated with wyns after an oil change no joy so removed the heat shield  only to find it was cracked. Had this welded but still no joy then after a proper look found that i have the first stud on the underside of the manifold had completely come out along with the insert. After asking about having it repaired told it would be ok providing all the other studs came out freely not some thing i wish to ponder on so i just put up with it, soon goes once engine is warm so for now at least it can stay.

PS if any OOF members are up for having a go at repairing it for me say maybe next summer i am more than willing to cover the cost.  :y :y :y
