General Car Chat / Re: Omega Estate Replacement?
« on: 09 August 2010, 12:59:34 »
just a thought but why not get a mpv of some sort plenty to choose from and plenty cheap.

Renault arent the best either loads of problems on the latest ones, Chy Voager ok desent oil burns too then there is the galaxy/sharan/alhambra with vw engines,
or vauxhall zafera though i find them a bit small.

Personlly i have a vauxhall sintra 2.2dti 99 model for when we all go out together 8 seats 48-50 mpg on a run 40 round town

the only solar panels worth using are about the size of your car roof about 2 foot by 3 foot,i have 2 wired up on our caravan to keep the batteries topped up when its not in use they werent cheap but then again you get what you pay for and the do the job they are designed for hth

A6's are ok fwd or 4wd avoid the 2.5 tdi with cvt auto as they have problems with the transmission, 1.9tdi either 130 or 150 pd engines are very reliable nice interiors too though like bmw you dont get many toys as standard unless you get the se trim spec

disco's are great machines they need regular maintainance and waxoyling every year, disco 3/4 ARE NOT proper landies too much german in the genes for my liking.

Problems with the disco 2 are boot floor rots front inner wings rot rear doors sag cos of the spare tyre ali/steel contact crossion apart from that they are bomb proof if you get a good one.

Personally i would stear clear of jap 4x4s the are poor imitations in my book, landrovers rule

General Car Chat / tyres??? which are best
« on: 13 July 2010, 21:40:40 »
just a thought really as to what make of tyres are preferred i use goodyear nct 5's or uniroyal rallye 340's on my omega's all 4 matching replaced in sets of 4.

I seem to get good mileage out of them 10-15,000 and another 5,000 swapping front to rear  the give good grip and are quite quiet on a cruise 225-55-16 and 225-55-17.

General Car Chat / Re: tax disc
« on: 09 July 2010, 16:57:29 »
this is a grey area, if you tax your car online the police and national databases will show your vehicle as have car tax even if you are not displaying one.

However it is a non endorseable offence not to show a valid tax disc.

yes you can drive without displaying a disc for the first 5 days of the month you have brought the disc for,but check with you insurance company as if you have a accident and are not showing the disc they can /will try to wriggle out of paying, i have first hand exprince of this with a vehicle on our fleet.

General Car Chat / losing coolant on a vx sintra 2.2 dti
« on: 08 July 2010, 12:44:31 »
hi all just wondering if anyone can help my vx sintra 2.2dti is losing coolant and i dont /cant find the cause.

I replaced the water pump as the old pump was failing there was a slight leak from the old pump, so replaced pump and pump gasket, checked all was ok didnt notice any leaks, then 4 days later saw the temp gauge was higher than normal when i checked the header tank on water so i put about 2 litres of water in and all was fine for about 3 days, then need to put water in it again every morning now i check the water level and some days it needs a top up some days it dont.

i have no oil/water mixing and no pressurizing in the cooling system all hoses seam to be ok and for the life of me i cant find a leak but the water has to be going some where dose anybody have any ideas? cos this has fried my brain it is the same engine as used in the omegas and vectras.

thanks for taking the time to read
