Ok, well as far as I can ascertain, its not particularly strong. To the point where i really have to work quite hard to produce it. As such, it does not annoy me yet. Or should I say, in no particular circumstances of my daily drive does it become truly evident.

Mine is a 97 td estate manual, running a 427. It has 112k miles and is a select spec.

Could it be a torque issue related.to engine mounts as suggested in a previous post?

Or is it just something to do with resonant frequencies and vibration created by a longitudinally mounted high torque 6 cylinder engine?

managed to get the vibration again today.
So yes, i do have it...confirmed.

What's the difference between the chips then? I think mine is a full fat one. But tbh I'm not sure lol.
Certainly feela good, but essentially the saying is true,

"no smoke, no poke!"

It's how diesels work.

and yet today, when driving, for the life of me i could not replicate what i felt yesterday lol

So who knows

Doesnt bother me anyway, but i'm interested in the theories

When I had the chip installed on my TD it drove ok but chucked out heavy smoke on hard acceleration. No stuttering around 1500rpm at first, but eventually I guess after around 5,000  miles use. A dose of 'Diesel Magic' in a new filter helped matters with the stuttering but it was still present.
Obviously blocking the injectors more easily, hence more smoke when fitting this type of chip. But yes it was bloody good fun to drive :y

Mick

Yes mine is smoky. I do feel sorry for whoever is following me lol.

Was out on a run today, Intercooler hose came off my intake manifold at the front.
(as mentioned in other post).
Reason for mentioning here is,
Just after this happened, once replaced and tightened, i felt this vibration you speak of for the first time. was like a loose wheel on the back, like a slight knocking when cruising in 5th at about 40mpg (1600rpm). as soon as i let off, or put my foot down and the turbo kicks in a little more, then it would disappear!?

(and before anyone says anything, ive check everything else too, was definitely engine vibration i felt)

Later on, i didnt notice it at all.......So very strange.

Is this similar to the type of vibration you have happening?

Afaik, there are petrol chips available bit the power increase is not as large.

Diesel is easy, more fuel, more air. And it doesn't matter if it runs rich. Excess fuel gets sent out the exhaust it the form of black smoke!

You'd have to have a proper remap with some light mods to get power out of a petrol.

As for tyres, its all good,  still got to wishbones etc and get WIM'd lol.
Gonna need new tyres any way soon lol.

In the mean time lots of sideways fun at roundabouts and junctions lol

Just be careful buddy - you've now got nearly 160 hoses under your right foot! :D

PM sent ;)

Haha, just noticed that. That's a lot of hose pipe.

yeah it is odd, they might have changed something in the later ones.

as for getting bored of it, not likely lol.

I've used up a tonne of fuel in the last 200miles with it lol.
Tis still good fun.

This i'm going to lower the car in the Apex spring kit i found (only one i can afford), and then do wishbones, and any bushes that need doing, then WIM.

Oh and then 17's.

Should handle nicely rhen, its a bit wavy atm.

145
Correct, a 427 +10,
No stutter and LOTS of power :D

I'm still getting used to it, but drove one of my favourite roads today and it was just epic.

What's the theory on the stutter then?
Have you asked what spec the models are. Cos mine is a select, pretty much  the base model. No electrical toys to speak of really. Thought it might be some hardware or software conflict ecu wise.

I've got no complaints at all with it. Other than the amount of smoke from standing start lol.
I end up leaving the person behind me swimming in diesel lol.

I figured it was between 150 and 160bhp at a guess.
Is that about right yeah? I know sethsmate just said 160bhp.
Just wondering if every one who knows about them agrees.

Thanks

« on: 05 March 2011, 16:58:52 »
Just wanted to say WOW! And thank-you to those who hooked me up with chip guy.

I've had chipped turbo diesel cars before, so I knew.what to expect, but this is beyond that lol. Great fun when needed.

It's a plus 10, so plenty of poke.
 :y :y ;D ::)

Omega General Help / Running on Veg oil? doable?
« on: 18 March 2011, 00:18:05 »
I'm thinking of running a blend of Veg oil. seeing as its £1 a litre in the supermarkets by me....

savings to be had

what do people reckon?

I know about it needing to be either well mixed with diesel, or preheated, but from a practical aspect is it viable.
I'd be happy to chuck in 50% veg when i fill up.
Will be a good saving over the whole tank.

Everything i've read suggests levering arm down...but you could use a jack to do that too
