If I recall correctly it is an option only for someone with the right diagnostic equipment, however sometimes you can sort it yourself but not always by swapping the lambda sensor plugs over run the engine for a few minutes then swap them back, sometimes this will reset it for you but more often than not it doesn't work.

You could also try a hard reset of the ECU by disconnecting the negative lead from the battery and touching it to the positive for 10-30 seconds.

the X308 ( ie the V8 ) XJR had a Mercedes gearbox......

Christ, which one as that could be worse!

Not sure which merc the box if off but the early shape XKR's used the same box and we rarely see any issues with this box at my garage.

Fill plug will either be on O/S of gearbox not too easy to see or at the back accessible above the rear mount.

I have only owned Vauxhall since passing my test, my first was a 12v Corsa b, followed by a Vectra B SRi V6, then my Omega, now I drive a 1992 Cav GSi.

Gave the Omega one last clean before putting it up for sale, really don't want to sell it but I cannot afford to keep two cars and couldn't stop myself from buying a really clean Cavalier GSi for a good price pretty much on my doorstep.

I don't think I could set a price on this as it is a total gamble, I know people who look after their cars and end up with loads of problems and people who think all thats needed to keep a car on the road is fill it with petrol or diesel and they have had no problems.

Looks like a tidy example, these are known for cracking exhaust manifolds and for sticking throttle bodies, the throttle bodies are horrible to remove to clean them on the SC straight six lumps though they do pull really well for a big car.

Problem fixed, decided to order 2 downpipe gaskets while in work today, to my suprise the downpipe gasket on the passenger side had already failed, I only changed them in August.

they are only 5,46 from Vx i believe?

Can't remember price but not expensive and a few minutes work to change, so I'll start by checking those and if at fault will buy some more.

Thanks for your reply, already knew what was involved so basically just after a time, after going out for a drive again I've come to suspect downpipe gaskets and the sound resonating around the manifold area and under the car as originally the sound was only passenger side and now I'm getting a blowing noise under car on the driverside towards the downpipe end, this manifold gasket was only recently replaced and I know its still not blowing, I fitted new downpipe gaskets when I changed my clutch not that long ago and now the blowing is heared on both sides it sort of makes sense, I will get downpipe off again tomorrow and check for signs of blowing, hopefully its just crappy downpipe gaskets.

Omega General Help / Passenger Exhaust Manifold Gasket
« on: 16 October 2012, 21:25:40 »
Does anyone know a rough time for removing the passenger exhaust manifold gasket, suspect either a gasket a cracked manifold as it came so suddenly but it also seems to have quietened down significantly in such a short period also which is strange as the engine was cold when started to look again, I also took it for a drive to warm it up and it is still much quieter, a, going to investigate further tomorrow in the light but would just like to know a rough time if I removed the drivers engine mount and undid the passenger mount to swing engine over.

Thanks

General Car Chat / MOT
« on: 15 October 2012, 18:55:04 »
Took the Omega to work for its MOT today and it passed with no advisories  :y, though I never take my car to work as its only across the road and is quicker to walk, and due to roadworks making the road by which I work one way what should have been a 5 minute drive home took me 35minutes as I had to take a very long way home.

Today I fitted a new aeriel lead (kickpanel to headunit) thanks to Albitz and now have a radio again, though only took me 15 minutes to fit as I routed it differently this time.  :y
