Omega General Help / Pre -FL 3.0 no start..
« on: 29 May 2016, 18:52:41 »
Now this is a previously running engine (although not in an Omega now).

It started misbehaving a while ago - would start then stutter and stall.  I've changed the fuel pump (twice) and the crank sensor (twice - one genuine, one pattern) but still nothing.  I appear to have fuel (plugs smell a little after repeated cranking) so I assume I've got signal to fire the injectors.

Paper clip test shows an O2 sensor (bank 2 - is that offside or near side?), 31 (to be expected when not running) and 57 Idle Air Control voltage low.  Still won't start if I give it a bit of throttle. Is it just the ISCV duff or a clue to something else?

Any clues welcome..

Go anywhere near them with a wire brush or wheel and you've just turned a delicate instrument into a doorstop.

At very best, a wash with some carb cleaner, from a distance.

If HID's are fitted, and it has washers (as all OEM installations do..) then they must work - don't know if it applies to "normal" headlamps though?

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2DTI as a tow car?
« on: 14 February 2014, 07:49:36 »
Just done a outfit matching search on Caravan Club website and they state at 1300 to 1400 Kg the standard 2.2 dti is as quoted "The car's engine power is quite low to tow this weight It may be sluggish and uncomfortable on hills or at junctions".Comes in at 38BHP per tonne. As a comparison my 2.6 auto is 57BHP per tonne seems quite a difference that 19BHP per tonne makes.
Don't the likes of the Caravan Club make out that undersize shitboxes are the ideal towcar?

I'm not sure where some 1.5 TD comes in as a "highly recommended" tow car..might be if you're towing a trailer to the tip?

I'm not that much of a fan of diesels in tow cars - especially ones with narrow bands of torque.  Not fun when they fall out of this band and sods law just before a hill.

Sounds like a 2.2DTI might cope - but only just..

Omega General Help / 2.2DTI as a tow car?
« on: 13 February 2014, 07:29:02 »
Cursory enquiry from a friend..

He's looking at a temporary tow car and going to be pulling a racer car on a trailer - so probably 1300-1400kg or so all up.  He's spotted a 2.2DTI near him but concerned about its ability to tow it easily enough?  He'd been looking at 530d BMWs but finding the ones in his budget full of issues - not surprisingly at the lower end of the market.

Any advice from anyone who puts a 2.2 into heavy towing duty?

If I need one, then I'll be going V6...but he's worried about the fuel bill  ;D

General Discussion Area / Re: Tablet any good ?
« on: 12 February 2014, 14:23:35 »
Not really a fan of tablets etc

Had a look at an ipad mini the other day which would not charge

Surprise surprise the very flimsy charging lead was u/s

Needs a new Lightning lead at Łtoo much

Micro usb is too common for them obviously >:(
Apple use someone else's cheap standard?  Nah - why bother when they can charge the earth for their own proprietary cables?

He says with an iPad..

If I hadn't already gone iPad, I would have been tempted by a Hudl, especially with the points-doubling deals (as mentioned).

FSIE's were soooo slow.....my Suzuki TS50 was much faster :D :D
It could have been worse, he could have had an SS50 or even a C50/70/90  :'( :'( :'( :'(

I love the smell of Easi-Start   mmmmmmmmmmm :y :y
Well, they do call it "Laughing Gas"...probably because it is!

A pair on their way from tigers_gonads - thanks to all who replied! :y

Half the reason for owning a Mig is this forum - the Spaniels Satsumas!

As the title really - I'm after a pair of long-nose plenum flexible pipes from the throttle body to the ram chamber (front of engine).

Anyone got a pair kicking around from a breaker?

Many Thanks!

Needs to be cheap and with MoT until September of better.  Budget limited to a single withdrawal at an ATM sadly.  Close to Midlands a bonus.  Stoke on Trent a real win!

Whats about, peeps?  Must be an estate and must have a towbar..

Omega General Help / Re: V6 Engine timing
« on: 16 December 2013, 11:08:01 »
In a perfect world, 12/12.5:1 would be about right but when in open loop mode, it has to revert to an uncontrolled map; shame it's "too" rich.  By the sounds of it, mine isn't too bad after all (hits 11.5:1 over 6000rpm).

Only way round this is an aftermarket ECU at a guess and probably with a wideband if you want to control it to 12.5:1 or so at WOT.

Odd that you mention it running rich - a problem I have (as do others by the look of it).  Only seems to be a problem when the system goes open loop - like on a full bore dyno run.  I'm not that happy with it sitting richer than 12:1!

The receiving ring from round the ignition switch and the Engine ECU, I think, as I believe it's a matched set (key chip, receiver and ECU).

Omega General Help / Re: Failed crank sensor - cable or sensor?
« on: 13 December 2013, 08:02:39 »
My engine came with a dead one...Cheapy ebay one fitted to test but genuine one in the glovebox..

Really should swap them over!  Pretty sure it was a Bosch one I removed (oval plug) yet I have a Bosch and Siemens spare (both with oval plugs).  I recall it being critical on a 2.5 but never heard of a problem with the 3.0 - can I use either?

Sorry for the post hijack..
