Omega General Help / Re: Handbrake cable adjustment

Hi, got the same problem with mine. Turns out the cables are seizing so new ones required.  :'( The adjustment nut is seized also so centre console has to come out to be able to warm up ! the rod. Oh well, save up and pay the man, much easier!  :-?

Welcome to the forum Bixy :y

Are you sure the nut is really seized? A good spray with Plusgas may help.  I've never heard of having to remove centre console for this.

less - you need to slacken off the central adjuster or at least make sure the cable is slack before adjusting at the wheels or you are wasting your time.

It is an absolute b*stard to get at the nut, when I was doing mine I sheared the stud, which meant a new lever, having said that, when I saw how bad the stud had twisted, it was ever likely it sheared...

are we talking about the same thing?  Its a pain taking the heatshields off but not that difficult.   Which stud sheared..? :-/

Omega General Help / Re: Eternalcar exhaust advice needed please
« on: 09 February 2010, 09:16:02 »
I have had 2 eternal systems.

The first didn't fit too well on my 3.2 estate.  One of the centre section pipes needed trimming by about an inch.   The second went on fine on my m f/l 3L elite.

They sound ok - a bit throaty in a way. Not perfectly quiet, but I think you'd be struggling these days short of a custom made job.

Eternals responsiveness (notably around the issue I had with the first one) was excellent - hence I bought the second.

They don't come with any fittings unless you order them.  I have found the rubber hangers can be reused.  You will need 2x 2 1/8" clamps (Halfords), a tube of Holts exhaust fitting goo, and I would suggest 4 8mm stainless bolts.    You can order the fitting kit with the zorst but it sounds like TB's was missing bits.

It is well covered on here that getting the front bolts out is a pig.  Despite heat and much care, they often shear and need drilling out.  (The same GM person that designed the b@stard bolt on the stat decided to have the bolts screw into the cat rather than into centre section otherwise this wouldn't have been a problem ::))

I recommend getting hold of a cobalt drill bit and some lube - worked a treat for drilling out the sheared bolt. :y

estates are a particular PITA - leading to them being left a while, hence the rusting and becoming even more difficult... Worth regular changing if only for that reason. (reminds self.. ::))

Wakefield is where Autovaux is. They used to rent them for reasonable money - I assume still do.  Worth a call?

Someone will be along soon to tell you about the Vauxhall trade club 4 for 3 offer ;), but any quality brand will do for now.

Yes that's correct.  Otherwise you will quickly knacker your new bushes.

there are also meyle heavy duty bushes as many of us have, pressed by marks dtm at newent year before last iirc, you will need drifts of the correct sort to press the new ones in without damage and a minimum 10 ton press, Marks press didnt survive the weekend afaik.

It is highly advisable to have your wishbones succesfully pre pressed with new bushes, as you are doing, before dismantling and fitting to the car.
i'll see if i can find the original thread by iggy21 with the part no's

I remember it well - my first OOF weekend and my car goes and  breaks the equipment :-[
Actually it didn't stand a chance when the 3T trolley jack was supplemented by the combined weight of OOF standing on it ;D
Hope Mark got it fixed.

Slight play isn't about to fall apart, so could probably wait until better weather :y

You will need to get the geometry reset afterwards too.

There isn't a Haynes book for that vintage Omega :(, but still worth getting the prefacelift Omega book as 80% is the same. :y

I doubt too much is different in the cambelt/waterpump area - not a difficult job on 4 pot, but worth getting hold of the camlock device if you can.

Thanks chaps.
All well and good here Kevin - apart from another dose of snow overnight, getting fed up with it. >:(

I will have a fiddle later on when I brave the elements.
Going to have to tackle the powersounder on the 3.2 as well soon.

I think it`s fuse #27. The connector will be under offside wing where the S/L pump is

Is #27 in the drivers footwell?  ..and not going to take out anything else?

Omega General Help / Rear shocks
« on: 12 January 2010, 13:58:46 »
I likely need to change the rear shocks on my old Elite to get it through the MOT.  This car is just used as my mrs' runaround so we really have no need for self levelling.

If I install regular shocks (I'm looking at the Bilstein ones), I assume I need to disable the SL pump.  Is there a convenient fuse to pull or connector to undo?

Cheers,
Ian

Omega General Help / Re: Wing Removal

It's been a while since I changed one, the stud at knee height was awkward, but not impossible. I am sure someone on here has swapped a wing lately.

Do you remember how you got at it - from inside the wing , or by somehow undoing the square flat nut on the back?  Do I need to remove the liner completely?
