I kind of agree with you aaronjb, but if a DIYer's house blew up I think you'd find the powers that be would define "competent" as meaning Gas Safe registered.

I've been doing plumbing for friends and family for over 20 years, including installation of gas appliances.  I take care, educate myself and do a better job than many so-called professionals.  When the Corgi mullarkey came in, I started to do everything except the final connection, then get a certified friend (plenty of my friends are  ;) ) to check everything over and solder the final joint for beer money.

Yes, the job could hardly be simpler and if it were my home I would just get on and do it gladly pay an "expert" an extortionate fee for ten minutes work.  ::)

Omega General Help / Re: Which oil?
« on: 26 September 2011, 15:44:39 »
If you're in the trade, you can get your own Trade Card to get these prices.  Most of us on here aren't in the trade, so we join AutoBahn Stormers (ABS) for £20 (when I last looked) and they give you a Trade Card as an automatic part of their membership.  ABS has no connection with OOF.

Consensus on here is that the part synthetic oil suits the Omega just fine - especially if you change it every 5000 miles.  My personal feeling is that part synth changed frequently is better than fully synth stretched out to 10K+.

General Car Chat / Re: Roundabouts and lanes

I would say the lane markings override the usual recommendation about straight on OK from the right lane if traffic dictates, therefore:

Left lane for exits 1 and 2

Right lane for exit 3 only

But I'm just an armchair eejit and that's just my belly rumbling.

Just stumbled across this for sale at Calor Gas here - looks more or less identical:

And yes, it is illegal for you to fit it yourself unless you are Gas Safe registered  :-X

Omega General Help / Re: V6 HG OR OIL COOLER SYMPTOMS?
« on: 26 September 2011, 11:16:28 »
Agree with KW above.  If your cooling system has been flushed and the coolant replaced at the scheduled 40K and 80K, it will look red and bright.  If it is green and bright, someone has tried to do the job on the cheap with the old green antifreeze, possibly to avoid having to flush properly.  If it is murky, my guess would be that it just hasn't been changed.

If I were you, I'd drain the system (nice easy red drain cock in the rad, should be hand tight) and fill with just water.  Run the car up to temp with the heater on Hi to get the coolant flowing everywhere, then repeat the whole process several times.  Once it is all running clear, fill with 4.5L of Vauxhall red antifreeze and top up with water.  If you clean out the header tank at the same time, you'll get a clear indication if you have oil ingress - but I doubt it.

The Vx antifreeze is good stuff, and good value at £14.10 + VAT for 5L.  Many on here have joined AutoBahn Stormers, which gets you a Trade Club card for big discounts off Vx service items, including antifreeze for £11.70 + VAT.

Yep - I could hardly believe you had done the migration so quickly and with so few issues.  I had assumed this was down to many hours of preparation, which you have now confirmed.

Hearty thanks from me - drinks duly owed.  I hope you reap the benefits in reduced admin time in future.

I agree is not as striking, hence artwork request. Overall, I think YaBB was clearer and cleaner

we are running a non optimal theme hear, in order to make it more familiar to oofers...

Oh dear - are we all so crusty and set in our ways that we can't handle a new theme?

Re threads with new posts, the green button is now clickable.  Use this and the threads with new posts don't need to stand out - there aren't and dusty old ones at all.

Put on a pair of Kumho KU39s.  First impressions - feels stable, no tramlining but a little noisier than I had hoped.  No opportunity to test grip as yet.
Noisy compared to....? What did you have fitted before?

Dunlops - SP Sport Maxx TT IIRC.

Kumhos are 235/45/17 97Y, £89 fully fitted from Micheldever, although I paid a few squid extra locally to save me a 60 mile drive.

Have you heard a Bose system in action?  I ask because I have lived with one for a while now and I would say it is good but not wonderful.  In fact I really can't see what all the fuss is about.  I would advise you to have a good listen to your kind of music on an existing Bose system, under various driving conditions, before you commit to major audio transplant surgery.

Obviously tastes differ, but my goal is simply that the sound I hear in the car should be the same as the original performance.  The Bose is not too bad at this but certainly not Hi-Fi.  I don't care about deafening volume levels but you definitely won't get these out of a Bose either.

Sounds like good advice from Dave DND.  As usual  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: cage

You could try browsing the parts for sale section and dropping a PM to one of the folk breaking a whole car.  Unlikely to advertise the cage as it isn't in big demand but they're bound to have one.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Old problem revisited

Somebody on here suggested turning the unit on with the eject button constantly pressed before, during and after.  It did the trick for me, but only after several attempts.

That was for my CCR2006.  Don't know what model yours is but mine would definitely have a little soapy if it had 5 CDs loaded.

Best of luck!
