i just bought mine 3 weeks ago same model on a 02 plate,as you say put it in sport mode and it a whole different story.
must keep a bit of room in the boot for a clean supply of under crackers though.

took mig on family camping trip suffered gearbox failure when down here so now waiting till friday to get recovered home so i can sort her out again

disconnected power sounder to be on the safe side,cleaned the scuttle drains,and checked pollen filter whilst in there.

i would certainly check the auto fluid level in box first
