I’m Not a happy chappy….

Last night, when I finished work, I had no petrol, so I filled up to the top.

I parked my Omega at Gloucester train station overnight, and returned to it this morning.

When I got back to my Omega, I noticed that the petrol flap was slightly open. I thought I must have just not closed it properly, but when I looked, it had been forced open and the flap had been broken for someone to gain access.

Wasn’t a surprise when I turned on the ignition, to find out that the MID was reading 0 miles :(

I thought these things had an anti-syphon.

As a result I had to get a Taxi costing me £30 so I wasn’t late for work again and get fired!

BARSTEWARDS

That's cool mark, thanks for the ever sound advice.

I'll see what way he wants to go. Those prices are good, but I'm not sure what he'll think about 400 on an N reg Corsa..

I'm hoping to find a useable head for him in the local scrapyard, so he has more change to take me out for some beers once it works :D

Twigworth have a head, but they won't sell it because it's on a complete engine which is 400 pounds

Will definately go to Bucklands though, I've pulled many a part off there in the rain ;D

Needs to be a quickie though.

It doesn't belong to me though, and it's not an Omega! However it IS a Vauxhall and it IS an ecotec!

My friend at work drives an N reg, 1.4 Corsa. 16v. He drove it home, pulled on his drive, and the engine stopped and wouldn't turn again.

He had a mechanic out, and it has been discovered that his timing belt has frayed to bits, and has significantly slipped ,if not broken.

So, time to roll up sleeves....

Tomorrow and Friday, I have allocated to helping him out. We are going to stip the head off, inspect the damage, and take it from there.

We're hoping we may get away with fitting a recon head, and new belt kit and water pump. But if needsbe we can get a replacement engine and have the necessary kit to change it.

One question from the experienced guys here, That's you Mark...
.
1) What tools will I need apart from all the usual? Especially for the head bolts

2) Like most ecotecs, is this a camshaft out job?

3) Any good places to get a second hand head?

4) What's the timing tool for this, guessing it just slots in between the cam sprockets? How much and where to get from?

5) What size are the heads on the head bolts and what type are they

6) Anyone know the sequence of tignening for head bolts and the torque and / or angle values?

7) anywhere hidden I may need to inspect for damaged caused by the broken belt?

It snapped I believe while idle or at low revs, so here's hoping it's not terminal...

Any other pointers?

Cheers ;D
James

If they want to save the planet so bad, then why tax users of vegetable oil 45p a litre when it's used as a road fuel, even though it's 70% + cleaner than diesel?

The rest of europe don't tax it

The goverment are just money grabbing arse**les

looking on the listing he wants £700 for it

To get it roadworthy it would cost:

New cambelt kit = £100
New waterpump = £25
New rocker gaskets (probably the cause of the leak) Over £80 to do job properly with all new inlet seals/gaskets.
Service kit, oil filters, new antifreeze etc, say £60

So that's £965 so far, and that's if you do the work yourself.... if you get it done somewhere else the total cost is nearing £1200.

Squeak at the back may be suspension which would very much up the cost considerably more than that.

Thinking about it realistically, is it such a bargain? and NO, I'm not interested and trying to put anyone off, unless it goes for £250!!

Otherwise forget it.. ...

Drive train is reliable enough, back axles whine a bit though. Its the rest of it that isn't, you know things like ABS, Cruise, Blowers, Windows......

I am not fussed too much about windows and stuff, as long as the front one works, cruise would be nice for motorways though.

You took one on that Rally and i seamed to do fine.

Do you reckon a senny is up to a 6k mile trip around Europe?

Not sure about the Senny, although fun, I'd say Omega is a better car and mechanically equally as good if not better, especially with the Ecotec units.

I'd jump in my Omega tomorrow (after a new exhaust) and happily drive it anywhere on the continent.

Mate, I use Avensis for pool cars at work, and I'm so so happy when I get back into my N reg omega with 130k on the clock!! The avensis gives awful backache too.

Avensis, £16000, Omega, £400........

The only thing I can say good about them are their brakes, they are exceptional.. however Omega ones are also not far behind.

Hrmmmm know what I'd prefer..

Sounds good, I do hope that incredibly low mileage is genuine!  Were the shocks upgrades or replacements?

Replace the cabin air filter to stop the misting problem.  (Also make sure drain hole in bottom of filter box is unblocked).

Yep replace the air filter, also run the system on 'ECO' on full heat for a while, that should help dry out a few things and reduce the moisture in the compressor.

Unfortunately pre mini-facelift Omega's don't have height adjustable steering  :(

I could have sworn my R reg 1998 2.0 GLS did...
