Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Superunleaded
« on: 15 July 2016, 16:43:09 »
I'd have 100 octane (or RON - marginal difference, I know, before anyone comments...) or 5 star WITH lead any day, so then my old Triumphs would be very happy!  :) They don't like this unleaded crap with all the ethernal content in it......>:(

Omega General Help / Re: AC Leak FL Elite
« on: 14 July 2016, 19:05:14 »
There is an ac pipe which runs from condenser under battery tray, along chassis rail to the bulkhead. They are poorly fitted and rub thru on the rail .good news is they are available new from gm approx £60

Not an easy replacement,  abs pump is in the way, and couple of electricky connector's, under the battery tray, also pipe has two clips on chassis rail, :o

I had a leak from this very same pipe where a pin prick of a hole had developed from movement of the pipe on a previous Omega. Spoke to a tech friend at VX about its replacement and he pulled his face saying it's an awkward job, and he also stated it required the ABS pump moving to get at it. From memory, I think he said VX quote about 5.5 hours for the job, which is an indication that it isn't that simple a job!

Omega General Help / Re: leather
« on: 12 July 2016, 17:11:19 »
I like leather seats in the Omega, but leather needs cleaning to keep it at its best. Some say black leather doesn't show the dirt like the lighter shades, but if it isn't cleaned regularly, it becomes excessively shiny due to dirt combined with body movement, which causes it to have a more 'slippery' feel. How many cars with leather seats do you see with a shiny drivers seat, but a more matt finish to the passenger and even more 'as new ' matt finish on the rear seats? Leather seats are naturally more 'slippery' than cloth, but regular use of a proprietary leather leather will help to restore the 'as new' matt finish and reduce the slippery feel.
The shiny look is more noticeable on the nappa leather finish, rather than the grained leather fitted in 2003 on cars, but both benefit from regular cleaning.
I regularly clean my leather seats in all my Omegas and my Audi, all of which have leather and the problem of 'slippery' seats is greatly reduced.
Hope that helps....

Seen moving at a fast rate of knots on the M65 eastbound near Darwen J4, a silver Elite saloon J99LES. Thought it was a 2.6, but it had a twin pipe rear exhaust. Not seen another Elite in East Lancs for quite a while.

Not exceeding the speed limit I hope. Omega drivers don't do that do they  ::)

I'm sure Les was doing 'just about ' 70mph..... :D

It's only for a few weeks each year; I have found a 2015 Dorema Daytona with steel poles and Easy Grip quick release clamps, and Quicklock pads (no drilling the van to locate the pole hooks). It's got Ten Cate All Season coated polyester roofing and wall material, and is like brand new. It is the larger size (size 7), so on the advise you have given, I will go for it.
Knowledge from experience is far better than the commission driven advice from sales staff, imho.

Thank you for all that very helpful info! It also makes sense too, as it had crossed my mind that the van could be raised a couple of inches quite easily with the plastic chocks if necessary which would take any out any slack depending on the fall of the land.
It's a Dorema Daytona that I am looking at - seems a good quality awning at a reasonable price, rather than paying top money for an Isabella or less money for a questionably lesser quality such as a Tuscany Pyramid, which I have heard aren't particularly good quality, although I'll stand corrected.
Other manufacturers seem to have different size increments which cover the 800 size, but I quite like the look of the Dorema.

Just looking for a bit of advise from OOFERS with caravans......
I am wanting to buy a used awning for my caravan. The caravan manufacturers state the awning size from ground to ground round the awning channel for my caravan is 800cm.
The awnings I am interested in go up in 25cm increments i.e. size 6 is 775-800 cm, and size 7 is 800-825cm.
Question is, do I go for the smaller size or do I go for the bigger size as both cover the 800cm size I require? Has anyone any experience of this aspect buying the most suitable awning?
I have spoken to several caravan dealers who have given mixed info, none of which convinced me as to which to go for.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Best advise is on here, don't ignore it, send a letter as per the template, looking at the responses all the ones I've seen had the ticket cancelled.  :y :y :y

I think you will be fighting a losing battle even with a letter if the car park is run by ParkingEye or similar cash hungry companies. If Lidl themselves own the land, then maybe, but I doubt they do - not with having a system like that in place.

Yes, I saw this. Looks ok and cheap enough. Most dealers still go off the book price which is still not a true reflection of their actual worth. I'd go for it if I wasn't bothered about being castrated in my sleep if I got another......

A lot used to depend on whether it is council owned land or private land, and previously on private land the notice could be ignored dispite threats of county court action, or you could make an offer to pay what would be deemed as reasonable i.e. £5, to prevent any further action, but unfortunately a recent court case changed the private land side of it stating that a penalty of £85 for an infringement is reasonable (maybe on a County Court judges wages - certainly not mine, but that's another story). So unfortunately, if the signs are in place then it's looking like you may have to stump up if Lidl themselves don't sort it.
Council owned land is still the same - they have you by the short and curlies and there's very little you can do. All the exemptions are on most Council parking websites.
I've been through this on three occasions in recent years - two were mine, one my wife's. I was successful on the first on private land, the second on council property I had to pay, and the wife's on private land was after this Court ruling, so again, we decided to pay as it now just can't be ignored as previously. :(

Before you give the Store Manager both barrels, more often than not, the supermarket don't own the land that the store is on. Parking is usually enforced on behalf of the company who own the land, and the store company (Lidl in this case) have no say in the matter whatsoever and any enforcement. The store often offers to pay any parking fee on production of the parking ticket as a goodwill gesture as paying to park when you are shopping goes against the grain, and joe public don't always realise that the parking enforcement is nothing to do with the supermarket themselves.

The first point to check is whether there were any signs clearly visible in the car park informing users of the regulations. If not, and there were no signs in the store entrance informing customers of the requirements, then I would certainly challenge it.

General Car Chat / Re: Audi A3
« on: 25 May 2016, 11:21:18 »
I drove a new S3/RS3 whatever they're called, with a manual box. I seem to remember 350 bhp ish? It was fast, very fast, but in an unfulfilling kind of way that always left you wanting more. The torque was limited in 1st gear which was obvious and just made it seem restrained and boring. The cabin was very small, although I am 6"1', and the visibility was extremely poor, front, back and sides but I find the same with many new cars. The suspension seemed like it had been removed and the ride was terrible, which is a big no no, and IMO the appearance is to be ridiculed, bling city. I saw a saloon version of the a3 too, it looked like it was an A4 that had been rear ended by a lorry at 60 mph, it was a horrible squashed down little ugly thing that reminded me of micro machines. So is it for girls? Yes, because you'd only ever buy it if you liked the colour.

I have also driven the S3 - stunning performance, which made you want to give it full beans wherever you went! Regarding the suspension, the latest ones have 'drive select' which allows you to alter the suspension, engine and gearbox /throttle response to suit your own preferences. Certainly if it was set in Dynamic mode, then it is a real bone shaker with stiff suspension, but put it in comfort or auto mode, or in individual to set each component to your liking. I preferred the tiptronic version to the manual - lightening fast gear changes, without the delay between gear changes as on the manual versions, but all this comes at a very costly price to buy and run!
The saloon version of the A3 in my opinion, looks great - proportions just right, and I think it looks better than the A4.
It wouldn't do if everyone liked the same things - be a very clinical world then!
