heard much the same about the 2.0 being less economical than the V6s, i desperately need a V6 but i worry i wont do it much good since i do a hell of a lot of short journeys in a week, in the region of 15 a week at less than half a mile!

The one thing I've noticed is that lots of short journeys really clobber the fuel consumption on a V6.  :(

Kevin

Could not agree more. I do 6 miles to work and 6 miles home again, my old 2.0 did 21.mpg on trip meter thingy, my 2.5 is doing about 20.1 on trip thingy.
On a good run (not very often) I got up to 35mpg out of the 2.0 and about 30mpg out of the 2.5.
Virtually all my driving is on 30mph roads to from work and a lot of stop start traffic.
Can't comment on the 3.6/3.0/3.2 as never even driven one.

HTH

Mike

I get the impression that manuals are much more economical than auto on stop start driving.

I'd be interested to know if the software update on the auto box improves economy (as well as smoother running )

no it doesn't  :(

Agreed Jay, I would go so far as to say that it's even slightly worse. Definately worse with cruise control and when towing.  :(

And, take it from me this fella knows what he's talking about. I had the pleasure of watching Hotel21 change his cambelt in a field in Gloucestershire.

A sight never to be forgotten.  :y

Nothing no holes or mark's it's a 2001 elite and my previous 1999 elite never had holes either

That'll teach you for getting an Elite then.  ;D ;D

Seriously, I'm surprised you don't have the holes for the mats but them's the breaks. The screws you mention will definately fit into the holes in the carpets. I remeber seeing, on Ebay, a seller with the carpet female bits for sale so you may be able to source them there and retro fit them. Otherwise just lose the screws before fitting them.  :y

Just found the ad', it includes the part numbers you want. CLICK

My 2001 Omega has small holes in the carpet for the fitted mats to 'screw' into. I guess it's just a quarter turn job. I take it your carpets don't have the holes then?

It's a good healthy Mig & i'd like to keep it that way. :y

I know what you mean. Cold, wet, damp, blowing a gale. Just the right time for working on the car.  ;D ;D ;D

OK. Update your profile, in the pane to the left, with your car details and your location. It would save you having to type it every time you ask a question. If you don't live in the back of beyond like me, you'll be amazed at the offers of help from people who live near you.  :y

Tailgate Screen, Remove and Install - Models F35, M35, P35

Remove

Note:   When carrying out the operation, observe in particular the general information - see "General notes on cemented windows".

Rear wiper arm, tailgate inner panelling - see operation "Inner Panelling - Tailgate, Remove and Install", tailgate screen wiper motor - see operation "Wiper Motor - Tailgate Screen, Remove and Install" in Group "N". Disconnect wiring harness plug for "heated rear screen" (1).

Detach screen trim strip around entire perimeter, detach mounting strips.

Note:   Mounting strips cannot be removed undamaged and must be replaced.

Cover windscreen frame with masking tape to prevent paint damage.

Remove

Note:   Cover windscreen frame with masking tape to prevent paint damage.

Remove tailgate screen with Wire Cutter MKM-589-B:

In the tailgate screen wiper motor area (1), push wire cutter through adhesive bead from the inside outwards with pliers. Remove tailgate screen around entire perimeter, wire cutter length approx. 400 mm.

Cut out glass from tailgate screen with Cutter MKM-846-1E or MKM-846-1P:

Insert Cutting Knife MKM-846-28 from outside in area of tailgate screen wiper motor (1) and cut out glass from tailgate screen in a circular motion.

Remove tailgate screen using Screen Suction Lifter MKM-641 and lay aside on holding device.

Install

Smooth down adhesive bead on tailgate to a thickness of 1 mm using Scraper MKM-846-70.

For re-used tailgate screens: Reduce adhesive bead to a thickness of 1 mm with Scraper MKM-846-70, attach new mounting strips (1) and screen trim strip.

For new tailgate screens: Clean adhesive area, attach new mounting strips (1), screen trim strip, apply "black" glass primer and allow to dry for 15 minutes.

Apply glass adhesive, use pre-cut applicator nozzle. Install tailgate screen with Screen Suction Lifter MKM-641, only tension tailgate screen slightly with Tensioning Belt MKM-591.

Caution

Lay-over times for freshly cemented glass panes in connection with glass adhesives and airbag equipment – see "Vehicle Lay-Over Times". Observe adhesive manufacturer's processing instructions and those on packaging.

Install

Wiring harness plug for heated rear screen, tailgate screen wiper motor, tailgate inner panelling, rear wiper arm.

Looks like a bit of a nightmare to me. Might be better to get an autoglass company to remove and refit for you??  They should be able to do it without breaking the glass as it's toughened not laminated like the windscreen.  :y

Check this out. It will give you loads of information about other members' cars.

If you want to add your info, just PM me your email address and I'll add you to the list of collaborators.

By the way, I tend to average between 26 and 29 mpg on day to day driving in my 2.2 Auto.

Omega General Help / Re: Bonnet Release
« on: 24 November 2007, 15:33:07 »
It's easier to do than to explain. The cable is held in by some clips and it eventually slips. You just need to losen the clips and pull the outer sheath towards the catch by a few millimetres. Tighten the clips again and the job's done.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Workshop Manual?
« on: 11 November 2007, 00:45:11 »
I don't believe there is such a thing. General advice is that the Haynes for the earlier model will cover most things. For everything else check here first.

You can get something on Ebay, copyrighted material and not endorsed in any way by OOF, but it is difficult to navigate and of limited use in my experience.

Hope this helps.  :y

I was thinking perhaps knock sensor fault as well.... never really heard of on an Omega though....

We could always get a shared MAF and trial it on each car for a few months!!! Need about five others to chip in as well!!!!

I think that would be a good move. Can the MAF be cleaned was thinking of trying it over the weekend.

How is yours runing any lights as yet.
I would be up for that.
Thank

There was a post some weeks ago regarding cleaning the MAF. It linked to a US website I believe. I have a 2001 2.2 and the emissions light came on and gradually became more frequent. This proved to be the MAF.
