Boilers are stupidly simple devices, with stupidly simple wiring.  I suspect plumbers try to keep that simple.


That said, my Potterton locked out again overnight, that's twice in the last 3 months.  Heres hoping there is enough PCB to solder to, as I vaguely recall the last time - probably about 10yrs ago - I was having to rebuild tracks across burnt, disintegrated board.  I suspect it will be a new PCB this time

Have you looked inside a new(ish) boiler 

My Vaillant has a huge pcb with another pcb piggy backed onto it, with looms of cable running everywhere ......

Yesterday I ordered a new ABS ECU for my BMW from this website www.autodoc.co.uk

They were very helpful via their chat function in cross referencing part numbers to ensure I was ordering the right part and I went ahead and ordered.

Today I have had an email from their office in Berlin requesting a photo of my credit card (showing only last 4 numbers) and driving licence or passport.  I've checked with their UK website and they say it is standard procedure for new customers.

It seems strange to me, as I have never been asked this before.  Has anyone else?   

How do you know that email is genuine?  You probably do not, and this could be a case where another party has hacked into the genuine companies email site, and is now trying to fleece you.

I would NEVER send any party who I do not know a copy of my credit card, let alone my driving licence and passport!  With those documents you could easily be taken to the cleaners, or someone could use your identity for criminal activities, like allowing a person to have a bogus passport, with supporting documentation to get into the UK.

No car part or anything else online is worth the risk

Sir Tig was asked to only show the last 4 digits on the card......not a lot you can do with that! Plus i carnt think of any card transaction Ive done over the net/phone where they havent asked for the security number

Never did get to the bottom of this “warning light” . I find them irritating. Bit like all the binging and bonging if you get out with the key with engine running or leave seat belt off while practicing handbrake turns.

So I went to a Ford dealer. Answer? It has auto lights, something to do with that.

Mrs V has just told me that it would be frost warning light. Sure enough there it was in the script you posted Aaron. In my defence ( pretty poor one I admit) it was orange in colour should have been blue or white and how daft showing it at the back of the car.

Next time, i will ask for a more basic car to match my user abilities so-long as it has cruise control

I must be lucky then, coz when I take the Mondeo in for a service, the garage tops up the screenwash, which lasts until the next service, no idea what they use, but it works ok

Fitting a magnaclean is certainly worth it. If you fit one, fit it somewhere easily accessible, as it needs cleaning out every year. The water circulating will stay nice and clear and all the black bits will stick to the magnets as well. Also its an easy access point to add inhibitor

If the American establishment don't get rid of him by the next election and the US economy does well, he'll get re-elected if he stands again. 

We all know that he's nuts (or possible really very clever, as after all he DID get elected!) but so far, although he's upset a lot of people (and continues to do so) I'm not aware of any major disasters. The average American judges everything by the health of their wallet, if it gets even just a bit fatter, he could well get re-elected.

He is also very very rich.....you don't get to be that by being stupid 

What I carnt understand is how a 70 year old, mega rich, wanted to be president of America, instead of swanning off around the world, enjoying retirement, spending his millions....

Ive got a Halfords digital inflator that plugs in to the lighter socket. You just set the pressure required, turn on and walk away and leave it to it. Ive had it quite a few years now. Only problem I had with it, was the valve attachment would stay attached to the valve, so I cut it off and put a new one on it (few quid I think it was)

Got another year's MOT on it.

One advisory. Clearing the EML didn't last the duration of the test this year, as one of my post-cat lambda sensors now has a heater issue. 

Like me, the tester clearly hasn't yet dared to look under the sill covers.

And advisory it can only be....Ive been told by my MOT man, the engine can sound like a bag of spanners, you can have emissions/EML light on, if it passes the emissions test they cannot fail it

These are not bad for the money, but not great for all uses.

There's no issue at all with charging on the car with these.

As said, they attempt to automatically detect 6V or 12V batteries, so a battery that is significantly below its nominal voltage it won't touch.

It also terminates the charge if the voltage goes over a certain voltage, so it's no use for reviving suplhated batteries that have been neglected.

I am not sure if they enter a maintenance mode once the battery is charged, and they certainly don't remain in such a state if the mains fails, so not much use for looking after your bike / kit car battery throughout the winter. They are OK for cyclic charging of lead acid batteries, though.

If looking for a maintenance charger, you'd be better off with a C-tek, IMHO.

My last one from Lidl....you had to select if car or bike battery....

And going by the specs on the charger it will charge a flat battery by pulse charging it....

Where in reality the average cost to each working taxpayer in green energy subsidies was a £500 tax bill in 2017, which increases to about £550 in 2018 and it will continue rising exponentially.

And yet the latest subsidies for off-shore wind are below the level of the latest nuclear abomination (and that’s before including cleanup costs). Yet funnily enough it’s only green energy that gets talked about when it comes to subsidies 

Back on topic. I wouldn’t have one. Largely because of the potential restrictions on switching suppliers as noted above.

You can still switch, but the 'smart' meter may become a 'dumb' meter, just like you have now
