As my Elite sailed through the MOT recently i thought i would treat it to a nice new Stainless system from my local Longlife Exhaust fitting centre. Took car in this morning and picked it up this evening. Chose which "sound" i prefered ( quiet with a nice growl when booted ) and tailpipe configuration. Well chuffed with the result  :y

General Car Chat / Re: At long last, MPG

Went to Manchester and back Friday, round trip of 339 miles and averaged 31.9 mpg and only 3/4 of a tank. Not bad considering i was stuck on the M6 for 45 mins on the way there after an accident two junctions further up and a 45 min go stop crawl out of Manchester onto the M60 later that night. Hoofed it a bit on way back as well as the motorways were very quiet  :y

Pleased with mine. Opted for a "quiet" system and sounds nice on tick over but has a loverly, but not obtrusive, growl when i excersise my right foot  :y
Didn`t fancy wearing earplugs on long motorway journeys  ;)

Just had a Stainless system from cats back fitted by Longlife today for a few pence under £400. Judging by pic single pipe to rear box.

Also was able to choose which tailpipe configuration i wanted.

General Car Chat / Re: CAR INSURANCE................
« on: 11 June 2011, 20:32:24 »
Reading posts on here with quotes over £1000 i think i`m lucky with mine at £540 with business use. It did go up a lot when i received my renewal in April, ( £120 increase ) and i did shop around and did find cheaper basic quotes, but by the time i had added all the benefits i had with my exsisting policy, they worked out dearer. Reasons/excuses iv`e heard for the increase include claims involving uninsured drivers. Bit of a lame excuse i think when we are in the age of "The Information Society" and "Databases" where anything seems to be on some sort of database or another. When i tax my car online it is checked for insurance and MOT on a database. Surely someone can liase with the DVLA and come up with a list of cars with no apparent insurance and pay a few visits to the addresses. Yeah.... right  >:(

Catalogue not available until friday mornings online. Gives them time to insert any late entries. Just go to W and H Peacock website. They have 3 auctions. Bedford, St. Neots and Leamington Spa.  :y

I frequently go to an auction in nearby Bedford ( W and H Peacock ) where various items from electricals to tools and plants are sold every Saturday. Sometimes the odd car part ( vectra wings and front panels for £15 a while ago ) comes up for auction. Just been on their website to see what`s being sold this weekend. Apparently, under the instructions from the official receiver as trustee in bankruptcy, a quantity of various unused retail Vauxhall car parts are up for auction. There are just some pics on the website at the moment and it looks like there is a fair bit for auction. The full catalogue is not on line until a friday. May be worth a look if any forum members in the area need anything. You may just grab a bargain.  :y

General Car Chat / Re: Paint suppliers ?
« on: 15 May 2011, 21:56:24 »
Yeah i know that can happen Ken, that`s why i went to this particular auto paint supplier where they also used to do spraying as well. The tech checked my paint with a swatch of around 8 different shades of krypton green and then mixed up a small tin for me. Thanks for the replies chaps.  :y

General Car Chat / Paint suppliers ?
« on: 15 May 2011, 00:29:13 »
Going to do a few little jobs on the Elite sometime soon, mainly spraying over small areas where my car has been keyed and stone chips along front bumper. Trouble is, the local auto paint supplier i used 18 months ago has closed down or moved and i can`t find any in my local yellow pages. The last time i bought paint from them a technician checked my car with a number of swatches to match the colour ( Krypton Green ) pretty much exactly and made up a small can and also sold me a can of clear lacquer. All i can find now are the standard spray cans from dealers and accessory shops. Anyone know of a supplier in the Beds/Herts/Bucks area where paint can be mixed to match exact colour?
Cheers,

Robbo.

Read this post with interest as i work at SKF and the price is indeed very cheap. If you did purchase one of these water pumps i would be interested to hear if it came in original SKF packaging. As a company, we have audited some of our distributors recently and found a few cases of counterfit bearings being sold to buyers. I am not implying that these pumps are counterfit, there may be a perfectly acceptable explanation, old stock etc. but they are being sold very cheap as i know how much these cost to manufacture. All our products are made to highly exacting standards and i would not like anyone to buy one of our supposed "products" only to have it fail shortly afterwards thus giving the company a bad name and unfair reputation and the Omega owner a costly bill.

As it`s been already said.. low 30`s mpg at a steady 70-75mph motorway cruising in my 2.5 elite estate. Well pleased with that  :y

I think Albs is right. As it`s pink it is obviously one of DLK`s failed projects... ;D ;D ;D
