Omega General Help / My car keeps cutting out :-(
« on: 09 May 2009, 21:55:44 »
My Elite keeps cutting out, and starts first time on the key. This started a few months back and would only cut out once or twice during the course of the day, now only recently she cut's out more but again starts first turn of the key. There are no fault codes. What could be the cause of this problem? Crankshaft sensor maybe?

If the power steering isn't working check the fuse, if the fuse is ok then could be your pump. There is a how too for power pump replacement. Check the exspantion tank (rad) for any oil in the water and check the oil filler cap for mayo, this could be the oil cooler unless your friend makes very short trips.

If the car knocks at the front will be lower arms and drop links, this is a easy fix as well.

I'm sure someone else will be along to give some more info.

Also check and clean/replace the breather hoses as well. Clean the idle air control valve (IACV) thoroughly and refit that should stop the car cutting out.

I have a couple of these devices as well but one is a seiral port and one is a usb port, I do have a seiral card to use but again it dosen't work with it. Is there anything I can do to make either of these work? Bearing in mind not much known about computers for this type of thing. If not then I have two that I will sell to someone that can get them sorted.

the com port, or usb imitation com port HAS to be COM1, or you have no chance.
After that a reasonable specced pc must be used.
I have had no success on old 500mhz pc's, but success on 1.1 ghz with 512mb memorry, so min spec somewhere between those.

Other than that, not much you can do.

I have had them both on COM1 but still doesn't respond to it, it tries to do a check but nothing just seems as if they are not connected. I have had them both tested to see if the fault lies with the tech 2's but they work fine, must be my laptop, got it last year August time so it's an uptodate one but still they both don't work.
One tech 2 is the ELM327 one and the other is the opel-scanner. So if I can't get them to work then they are up for sale.

Opel scanner cost me £75
ELM327 cost me £45

Depends how long your journeys are to work and back. If you do short journeys then i would clean them out every time you do an oil change to keep on top of them. If your journeys are alot longer then 1 a year maybe.

no heat req for facelift mouldings just remove the two screws one at either end and they slide off  :y

    Hi Mark,
As you know i bought the door mouldings from you to put on my pre-facelift. You say above they are just held on with screws on the facelift they came off of so are they refitted the same way on my pre-facelift or do they need adhesive as well :-/ :question.

                Cheers,
                          Pete :).

prete i fitted them on my pre face with the screws at either end a bit of drilling for holes nd a dab of silicon on mounts  :y

Cheers Mark that sounds easy enough :y.

I just took the screw bits off and used extra strong moulding tape, and they are still on and I have been through a car was as well :y

Having lightly scraped my nearside front door moulding on the garage pillar I proceeded to try to spray this in using the dealers Z147 color code aerosol cans. Whilst the result is acceptable in the short term I either need to:-
1)  blow in the whole length of the moulding and then accept that it may not quite match the rear door moulding/doors
2) get a body shop to do it and match it color wise with a subsequent large bill!!
3) renew the moulding as if I gather it correctly from the forum these are bought color coded from the stealers.
If 3) above is right anyone got a feel for the price (retail.trade etc) and whether this would be the best option. Am I right in saying these are stuck with adhesive to the door andf are not too bad to remove with a bit of heat.!!
TIA

Incorrect, they are not colour coded from the stealers they come primed ready. You can buy a new one and get that resprayed at a body shop or just spray all the mouldings with the same spray can.

i only do short runs now you mention it , car seems to be running fine . is ther anything else i should look out for ? and colour is mayo also uses no oil or water

There you have answered your own question.

can abyone advise how much i can expect to pay to have this done

£0.00 You have just fixed your car for Nowt and without taking to the garage!!! 9999999,999999,99999,9999,999,99 to OOF 0 to Garages. :y :y :y

As you do short journeys give the car a blast down the motorway to clear it plus do more oil changes to compansate this as well.

How does the car run? Do you do short journeys? Is the oil filler cap a white mayo in colour?

If you do short journeys the this is common on the V6 as the moisture doesn't get chance to burn off.
