I now have the greatest sympathy with Amigov, Spongebob, Sir J and all other professional HGV drivers.

I have recently taken (and passed) both HGV (rigid only) and PCV licences and never realised just how difficult bad car drivers make things for them, until I met a few !!!. Even though the truck/coach were empty it was surprising how much inertia they actually have ... when you consider what fully laden entails it is quite amazing.

I may never use these licences in "anger", they are, at the moment just an option for the future, but the act of taking them has certainly made me a more considerate, patient and hopefully, a better driver.

Judging by her comments in other reports

http://www.guardian.co.uk/transport/Story/0,,2235645,00.html#article_continue

"No driving licence for me means I will have no life. I live alone and I am fiercely independent. Losing my licence will leave me with no social life."

..if she was offered a deal to surrender her licence for no prosecution .. she probably turned it down leaving the CPS no choice.

Overpriced?? What a bargain. It's a beautiful car with every luxury and could well see at least another 10 years. If I had the cash I'd be there tomorrow to buy it.  :'( :'( :'(

Been drinking again GB  ?.. :)  :)  :)

If I've said it once, I've said it...........omegas, except in police guise, are not fast cars.

you weren't driving it right then

The figures speak for themself Jay. 0-60 in 8secs+ is not quick.

I can get my MV6 to 60 in 7 secs.... OK it's a 3.0 manual so quicker than most, but even at that it's not what I'd call fast. The biggest problem with Omegas is the crappy gear ratios, they're too wide for the peaky 24V engines to satisfy the motorway cruising ability (and improve fuel economy no doubt). A 6 speed box, with 6th gear being the equivalent of the old 5th and all other ratios closer and lower, would work wonders for the acceleration and drivability.

I think Vx designed the Omega as a sedate, luxury, cruiser .. not a hot-rod. If you want a race car .. buy an evolution 10  ??   :)

I have a dilemma .. opinions requested.

I love the meega as it is easily the best car I have had.. both solo and as a tow car. I paid £8500 for it 51/2 years ago, and its probably worth around £1800 now. Due to recent mishaps I will probably have to spend/discount £300 if I sold it so actually only worth £1500 - and I might not get that on trade in.

We tow on the continent every year and it is difficult to get breakdown cover on a car more than 12 years old, as this one is now 8, it realistically will need replacing in 4 years.

I did all the calculations on LPG conversion, and mileage wise would recover the cost in 12-14 months, so that is still viable.

What I am thinking.... would it be better to trade this in for a 02/03 for around £5000-£6000 now, and have that LPG converted, so having a car that will do the job for 7-8 years ??

I belong to a club which has 2 similar items .... pain in the ***** !!

They weigh a ton and need a van to transport them in - main weight is the poles, bloody huge things  .... also need about 8 folks to put up /take down even in zero wind .. in anything more than a breeze double that as the cover acts like a bloody big sail - and I mean BIG.

Lastly, if taken down in the wet, getting them dry is very dificult, we are lucky a member with a factory allows us to hang them over a weekend to dry, however, as they are used at weekends they have to sit "wet" until the next and are already showing signs of algae stains because of this.

Many folks - including myself, have small garden type gazebo's that fit in a car boot, and can be dried in a normal garage, if folks took their own and they were erected side by side it would make more sense... IMHO
