Paul, where abouts are you.
I can have a word at my local in the morning, as they worked well for Markie.  :y   :y
I think the GPO delivered it the next day to him in Glasgow.  :y   :y
Not bad from up here in the sticks!  ;D   ;D

Let me know if you still need it.

Now I've got the grease off my hands from the HBV change, (and changed my pants from the close call with the radiator tap) - here's a question thats has bothered me from day one of owning this car , nearly seven years ago. On occasions when I turn off the ignition I get 4 'beeps', which I now believe come from the horn sited underneath the scuttle on the drivers side. It usually happens when I have turned off the ignition and removed the key in one swift movement. It certainly never happens all the time, quite the opposite. I'm sure its some part of the system telling me off.

Any ideas

Thanks Pat

It sounds like an intermitent fault and if it's been happening every now and again for seven years, it sounds more like a loose or semi-not-happy connection.
Surely if it was the batteries giving up it would have died years ago!
It can be removed you know!   ;)

V6 generally had air con.  Only ever seen a V6 GLS without air con and that was a '95 model.

2.0 was much more hit and miss.
If it's a 2.0 its probably more likely to be a miss rather than a hit.

I use to own a 95 2.0 CD Spec.
I think it had a sunroof, but definately no AC.

Official figures for 2.2 manual from Parkers.co.uk & same on What Car:
2.2 (manual) - 0-60 9.5 seconds
3.0 MV6 (auto) 0-60 8.7 seconds
Both 'official figures'
Recent testing by some members had 8.2 for the 3.0 MV6... and it was leaking cam cover gaskets, and going around a round-about and up hill!!! So even with all that its still faster than official figures.
With 9.5 quoted as for 2.2... i would be able to get 8.7/8.8....
The test i did (which got 8.9) was standing start, 2k rpm dip the clutch, soon began to move press stop watch on the indicator stalk..... NOT with a Mobile phone (which is illegal!!)
and i press stop just after it passed 60.... that was my second attempt...

Surely (and I'm not condoning breaking the law here) the real difference will show more between say 60 - 100.
I know overtaking manoeuvres are a lot easier and swifter in the 2.5 compared with my old 2.0.

just buy an Omega thats already a V6.

Exhaust totally different, engine mounts, air-con system is also different using different pipes.

Because they are so cheap, just sell the 4pot and buy the V6.

Not a lot in terms of outright performance (0-60) from 2.0 to 2.5.

3.0/3.2 Manual is one to go for if pace needed  :y

Are you certain on that one Tunnie? ;)
Having owned both I would beg to differ!  :y

As Tunnie says though a transplant would be a significant job ........ you'd be better selling and buying a V6!

Jason,
I'm glad to see you decided to join us.
As Laidback says, don't drive anymore till you have more information.
Post up some more of your details, and hopefully someone will be kind of local to you.
We are a Europe wide forum now!  :y  :y
Cheers

They have a sensor like the windows which will stop it working if theres too much resistance, like dried runners    ....... I think

Personally I wouldn't put a pressure washer anywhere near my engine bay, or a hose either, as we all know how sensitive these barges can be.

Is it the horn type or the power sounder?

well when I drove my old omega last christmas, the shocks were shot and when I pushed it round a few bends the arse end was all over the shop. Once parked up, pushing down on the rear quarter it came back up again - and then after a second or two the entire back of the car did what I can only describe as wiggled ... not good ... but it sounds very similar to what you're describing!!

So I'd lean more towards shocks ...
Yes, but I should probably add that there is quite a rattle when I hit a pothole with the ns front.  Is there a reasonable way to check the wishbones?  The shocks are definitely toast, but I should do both since will need an alignment.
If it's a metallic ratle then it could also be a piece of snapped spring sitting it it's mounting.  :y

Dude! You would be better off updating your profile, to give your rough location and year and spec of your barge.
It's easier for people to judge if they can offer you help or not.
As you will see from my profile, it will be a wee bit difficult for me to offer help. ;D
Good luck with it!

Hello my name is Dean and i am new to the forum, I have just purchased a 1998 Omega Elite 2.5V6 in Gold. I absolutely love it but there are a couple of issues i need help with.

The car is fitted with HID's however someone has changed the light switch box and now it has the manual levelling switch (it does not work however). I am aware that it should have an auto levelling system, but when i turn the dipped beams on, i get the initial blue(ish light) but no auto levelling takes place and it looks as if the drivers side is very low....

Also the drivers side light unit has condensation inside it...

So my questions to the wise ones are.

1)why would the auto levelling not be working?
2)how do i adjust them manually?
3)is it possible to open the headlight unit and clean out the water and condensation.
4)The hids give of an initial blue ish light but then seem to fade to white, is this normal, I thought they should stay blueish?

Hope you can help

Thanks

Dean

I'm no expert but here goes :-
1). Different switches will probably have different wiring.   Has anyone got access to wiring diagrams and can check?
Failing that it could be ballast packs, motors, or level sensors? If you can swap with a known working switch to check.
2). Not sure if you can, but be careful around the back of the headlight unit, there's a lot of current, and each bulb costs around £130.
3). Probably but again be careful. You would really ned to figure out how the moisture is getting in, and stop that at the same time.
4). Yes. This is perfectly normal ....... well mine do the same.

And finally. I presume you have a mini-facelift.
If you park a couple of meters away from a wall or something similar, and turn on your lights. Do you not see the lights come on, level down slightly then and then back to level. If so then they are working correctly.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear window obstacle detection?
« on: 27 February 2007, 10:33:49 »
The friction between the window and the rubber/felty runners can be enough, to cause this.
Try some PTFE spray down the edges to see if this helps.
Can someone please confirm that PTFE spray is the stuff?
Hope this helps
