Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery drain
« on: 26 October 2022, 17:16:33 »
removing neg terminal yes would guarantee no problems but to be honest mine is ok after 2 months easily and so are my classics. my viva can sit untouched for 6 months and start ok but there are no items on that to drain the battery anyway.
batteries are a funny thing.
i bought a few bosch batteries back in the day  and didnt find them to be particularly long lasting. maybee 2 or 3 years max.but strangely enough (and i have absolutely no idea why) i bought a NO NAME / unheard of battery back in the very late 90's and that battery is still alive and well now.
i also have an optima red top that i bought in 2006 for a small fortune that is still alive so that just shows that batteries are a mysterious breed .
i know most of you wont beleive my last two statements and thats ok ,i dont realy beleive it either but its true !

this is true and even if a once good battery does recharge it will never be as good as it once was.
before changing my (believed good) battery on mine last year the car could happily sit untouched for 2 months and would start fine .after a draining issue later in the year a new one wasfitted and a noticeable difference was observed in starting speed.
mine has now been stood untouched since beggining of sept and will be fine next week when i retax it.
9 months however would definately flatten and damage a good battery.!

this is one thing that has always puzzled me.
if the arm comes out of the socket and effectively stops reporting  the suspension movement as it thinks the car is level how does it bring up a fault. or does the sensor move itself to a kind of error position ? ive not noticed them to be spring loaded to any side ?
just curious

sounds like either the contacts are just a little dirty/ bad or the adjustment is just a tad off.
idealy and worthwhile just doing the inevitable removal and full clean up that they usually need eventually anyway.

i only use mine to watch youtube so have an activated nowtv box from car boot.
this word (activated ) has caught me out a couple of times when buying them.
if you get a NEW one then you have to register it,put in you bank details to even get it to come  on.
i have heard that a firestick doesnt need this.just to watch youtube only. can anyone confirm this.please.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Re: cav/manta b ate brake servo
« on: 18 September 2022, 13:35:21 »
i have been told that a golf mk1  1.8  is the same servo.there are some of those on ebay s/ but not available new anymore.
i would never personally buy from gm6 because of their usually stupid high prices for common items but theyre not listing anything suitable anyway except senator and thatsway too large

thankyou mr grifter for your reply anyway. il get one somewhere !

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5V6 engine take-up sluggish
« on: 04 September 2022, 17:24:00 »
yes .when you have another identical car part swapping is a good idea. one at a time until the fault swaps too !
some frown on this idea but nothing wrong with it providing you dont end up with 2 faulty cars !
and you keep tabs on what you are swapping and doing it methodically.
fault finding the other(technically correct way ) is fine normally until you have one of these 'strange issues'.
in the end you usually find its something simple or obvious and the signs were there !

a cluster (if cheap enough) from another engine size will still physically and electrically fit in .if just to prove the instruments at fault or something else on the car.

graphite powder is the reccommended lube for the actual barrel part but not sure if it would find its waythrough to the locking mechanism as its right at the far end so to speak.
i must admit thou that until i heard of graphite lube ive used wd or 3in1 on locks and barells for years and years and never had issues.i think they say it can attract dirt ?
if you want the steering lock to be fully operative it MIGHT mean pulling the barrel out and getting at it properly but no harm in trying lube first.

i thoughtthat the abs ecu only affected the speedo but not the tacho ?
it sounds more like a failure on the instruments pcb. (after making sure the dash is fully pressed into its connector socket and the supply fuses are ok.but this sounds like fuses are ok as you have warning lights and working fuel and temp guages ?)
by this i mean the actual control pcb inside the cluster NOT the flexible membrane onthe back that the lights pop into.
my failure mode on mine was a loss of speedo, tacho and fuel, temp too.but a replacement pcb i have had only failed on speedo and tacho.
the pcb is a double layer affair with through connections. mine failed on a couple of these due to the suprisingly intense heat the cluster is subject to in its location.possibly causing swelling ? ?

Omega General Help / Re: cant open door or boot
« on: 08 August 2022, 10:51:38 »
as nick points out above.a good battery on an omega should stay charged longer than 2 weeks unless you have a battery drain.
in standard form you should still be able to start the car easily after 2 months !
