General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 20 July 2021, 16:09:08 »
having put a new caliper, brake pipe and flexi hose on the n/s/r a couple of weeks ago and failed miserably to get anything of a "pedal" I bought a pressure bleeder.Been to lock up today to try it and there is absolutely no fluid getting to the rear caliper! Not had chance to check further but suspect air in abs block[does that sound feasible?] if it is air in abs block is there any way to get it out without a TechII? as I don't have one of those and don''t know of anyone local who has. Any other ideas are more than welcome.

More likely to be a fault with the the abs modulator itself, seen this a couple of times where no fluid will pass from one outlet, not seen it on GM but have on peugeot and Bmw with Bosch units

A character like James Hunt wouldn't get near a F1 car today , "sex pest , drunk " a modern F1 teams worst PR nightmare , those were the days  :y

Tbh, he was lucky to get near one in the first place. I know a driver who raced against him (and always beat him), who said the media nickname of "Hunt the shunt" although accurate, was just slightly different to the nickname most of the drivers had for him.
He was lucky that Lord Hesketh enjoyed all the partying, and not taking anything too seriously, like Hunt, but presumably also saw some level of talent in him, that laid beneath the surface.

1976 was the year of Hunt and Sheene.

Both were chamions.

Both were heavy smokers and drinkers

Both liked parties and pussies. :D ;D

And both died yoing :'(

General Car Chat / Re: seized caliper

So ... everything has cooled down, I just lifted the car & the wheel spun freely. Got Mrs B to apply the brake & release it, the wheel now does NOT spin freely.
I can still smell warm pads  :(
Caliper it is then. Throwing a new hose on with it will add a tenner to the job, but not much else :y

1st things first, when wheel is still binding crack open the bleed nipple,if wheel frees straight away its not caliper but either hose or abs modulator

I'd be a bit bitter at having to pay that sort of cash for a German Vauxhall!  ::)

Bitte!  :D

Rare beast though, can't say I've ever seen one before ???

I got a bit confused there, I knew I'd read something about it, but memory retention is not my thing these days  ;D
From auto trader:

The Toyota Aygo is mechanically almost identical to the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, which are built in the same factory. You’d expect, then, the running costs to be the same, but the Toyota is actually very affordable to buy and will also hold its value better, which should keep overall running costs impressively low. Another main city car rival, the Volkswagen Up, is a bit cheaper to buy but doesn’t get such good fuel economy, despite having less power, which makes the overall costs very similar to the Aygo.

I have driven the Up and the Skoda  version and very civilised little things, they feel better built than the toyota/pug/citroen with nicer interior materials but all down to taste I suppose :y

Filled the Subaru up for a trip to Croydon tomorrow , be glad when the house is sold and all this to & froing is finished.
You could be sitting in an aygo next time  ;D

She showed me one today 3,500 miles £7999 so you may be right

We could start an Aygo thread on here and really slag them off, so you can show it to Mrs Mick.  ???  :)

Tell her Look at this! These guys really know what they're talking about! ;D

Too late she's already done the research, reports are pretty good.

Don't write off the Peugeot and Citroen versions, built on the same line with just slightly different faces but generally better value

Perhaps, but nor should you feel obligated to apologise for their incompetency...
He had no need to apologise for anything. He could have just fûcked off and said nothing. But, as he's a self important mong, he just couldn't help himself.

^^ yep,that sums it up :y

My own experience of VAG differs greatly DG, my Touareg was bought seven years ago with 130k on the dial but good history. its now on 175k and I have just had to fit an injector to it which is its first major repair  with me other than routine maintenance, probably half of the miles covered during my ownership have been pulling 1800 kg of pikey palace around which is why I bought it in the first place,it replaced a woefully unreliable Discovery  :y

So what have you done to the black pussy that killed it ? ::)

Soon to be 62;D
Finished a run of 5 nightshifts Monday morning. Back in on days at the weekend.
I usually do a lot of hours over several days. Mon - Fri shifts are 15 hours. Weekend shifts are 12 hours. So once Ive done a run of a few shifts I then  have quite a few days off.  :y

Still hurting from head to toe this morning. I really am getting too old for it.  ;D

Me too, creeps up quick :-X

I think ownership of the wall is first port of call, then get heavy with the neighbours insurers or them personally if its there wall, if its your wall another plan will need thinking out :-\

Omega General Help / Re: Timing belt kit
« on: 05 May 2021, 10:06:37 »
It used to be standard advice on OOF to replace the pump while doing the cambelt, because genuine GM pumps were dirt cheap so it was rude not to.
Then the prices rocketed overnight, and the advice changed. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
