I've had the same problem for about 6 months and, most annoyingly, so has the wife's Astra. I have changed the car battery, not the sounder (I didn't know it had one) and this hasn't made any difference. Incidentally, the battery really did need changing. The only difference to the car is that I had a tow bar fitted. Perhaps the electrics made a difference?

Anyway, you are not alone with this problem and I really understand the embarrasment of having to go out in the middle of the night. It also means that I have had to start wearing pyjamas again >:(

Just flashed out my codes...

73 Air Flow Sensor (AFS) Low voltage
74 Air Flow Sensor (AFS) High voltage

Visually everything seems fine, nothing is unplugged. Again, visually, I can see both multirams working if I give it a hard rev.

Symptoms are, poor pickup at low revs.

Any ideas? :)
PM sent...

Is it a secret then?  :-?

Omega General Help / Re: Omega Starting Problems
« on: 13 September 2007, 09:43:58 »
Just a thought. Does this happen every time you start the engine or only intermittently? Does it only happen on cold starts?

Mine did this, worse on damp mornings, I used to pull over and restart the engine. The Tech2 suggested a throttle issue. Marks DTM thought that this could be a loose connection in the drive by wire set up.

Fiddled with relays and wires and so far no further problems. Maybe a loose connection somewhere?

As said, just a thought and by no means a diagnosis.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Tyre wear, OSF inner edge
« on: 08 September 2007, 16:06:48 »
This is, apparently, a common problem. I had the same and my tyre place told me to get the geometry checked out.

This started to happen after the local idiots, not Vx, had changed the wishbones. Got the geometry sorted and the problem seems better although I do get a pull to the left so another visit in on the cards to get it adjusted again.

There is a place called Wheels In Motion who are, I believe, near Hemel Hempstead so not too far from you and they are reported to be very good. He also gives a discount to OOF members.  :y

thanks for info, if i can get to the meet i will try, i do shift work so not always easy. is it another member who does the work. thanks for info.

Yes. 'TheBoy' has two Tech2 machines, greedy eh? He lives in Northants and would also do this for you. If you send him a Personal Message he will arrange it for you. He will charge you a lot less than any dealer as well.

Good luck  :)

The gearbox upgrade is a software 'flash' that needs to be done with a Tech2.

If you can wait until the meet in October you could get it done then. Looks like the meet will be in Herts so not too far from you depending where in Kent you are. Have a look in the 'Meetings' area.

Otherwise, you could try getting a quote from a Vx dealer. You may find that they don't know what you're talking about though.  :(

And, post on here when you have done it. It was the first thing I did on mine and I was walking around with an idiot smile for ages just thinking that I had done something worthwhile on my car.

Give it a go!!!

Easy peasy. Buy a new indicator/cruise stalk. Fit it yourself, 5 minutes if you take your time and you're really careful. Take it to someone with a Tech2 to programme and you're away. I got mine done by a local chap who charged me about £30 from memory. But there are a couple of members on here who have the capability, one in N'hamptonshire and one in Notts.

If I remember previous posts correctly, it seems a fair proportion of facelift cars (perhaps all) left the factory with all the required switches prefitted thus only requiring a stalk to be added then the whole thing tech2'd.

To me, if a big concern such as GM were able to avoid fitting umpty thousand switches at 57 pence each or whatever plus staff hours in fitting them they would do so.  That would pay for something else within the corporate empire or add to profits.

I would suggest taking the cover off around the pedals (30 second job with twist fastenings) then having a look to ensure a 4 pin brake switch and/or clutch switch is already there.  Saves a spotty yoof doing the same thing at the dealership with resultant  :-[ ....

If its a manual, you MAY need a clutch switch as well. Some have them, some dont.  About a tenner.

It needs to be a real Tech2, with a valid TIS2000 subscription.  Some independents have the Tech2, but not the TIS.

It's an automatic. And your not a muppet, just needs Tech2'd.

In my opinion, the cheapest you are likely to get it done by a garage is £30 - £40. If Vx dealer wants £50 then that's still only £20 over maximum and not that much for such a great mod!

I phoned around the Vx dealers in Cornwall and Devon and wasn't quoted that much so it is worth giving them a call and I'm sure they are much more generous up your way.  ;)

golfbudy said about the mass airflow, i dont no what this is can yous let me no please , today i was doing 30 mph and it was like the it just stop so i give it some more then it just went again my panter said it done the same on her when she was driving is this potential fault ???? :) :)

Sadly P, I am not in the least bit qualified to tell you about mass airflow sensors. There are several posts about them like this one. All I was saying was that we have the same model and year of car and sometimes cars have similar faults. What I would suggest is that you get it checked out by someone with a Tech2 to give you details of the fault. If it is the MAF it shouldn't be that difficult to change yourself.  :)
