Omega General Help / Help needed with central locking.
« on: 19 August 2015, 23:02:42 »
Central locking problem.
The central locking on my 1999 2.5TD has been playing up for a while, and I think it is about time I tried to sort it. Just not sure what the problem is and I am looking for help in trying to locate the problem.

First problem: The remote key fob stopped working ages ago, have tried new battery but no change.
To get round this I have been locking the car manually but this has its own problems. At the moment this is how I have to lock the car.

1:Lock the P/S front door by pushing down the lock button from inside the car,
2: get out of car and close the Driver door
3: open rear d/s door and push down the driver's door lock button
4: close rear d/s door.

I then use the key in the driver's door to open the car, this will unlock the car except for the p/s front door which need to be unlocked from inside the car. Sometimes the p/s f door will unlock using this system but not very often.

I have also found that if I lock the car with the key, then when I unlock the car the alarm will go off, where if I use the system above then alarm is not triggered.

Not too worried about key fob, but would be nice to have p/s lock working properly and be able to lock and unlock car with the key without the alarm sounding.

Anybody have any suggestions as to where the problem may lie.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 TD A/C question.
« on: 12 August 2015, 18:41:17 »
Well had a look today, and it turns out that the bolt that holds the center clutch to the pulley had fallen out. :-*.
Had to remove ac pump, which was not as bad as I thought  it would be, and have now fitted a new bolt.

Is there any way of checking if all is working ok , before I pay out £40 to have  a re gas done. Don't really what to re gas only to find out its not working and   have to remove compressor again .

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD A/C question.
« on: 11 August 2015, 19:56:08 »
Hi all.

The A/C compressor on my 2.5 TD omega has failed, the bit that sits inside the pully wheel has come adrift.

Took the car down to an A/c specialist today and have been told that there is a possibility that oil and metal filing could have contaminated the whole system and if so I would be looking at a bill of about £700 + cost of new compressor.

Now while A/C is nice, I don't use it very often and could live without it as I'm not willing to spend that sort of money on the car ( more than the car is worth) so I am thinking of just removing the A/C belt as a quick fix, would this be OK or does the A/C belt drive any other components?

thank for any advive
chris.

Thanks for the info.

The ones I have are Manual self leveling ones from my old Carlton Estate.

So as far as rear shock geometry goes, LC=Carlton=Senator=Omega B. The only difference is that the LC has longer rear track rod adjusters than GSi, and so the pick up points are also moved further inboard on the rear subframe.

So from this they should fit.

Just wondered as when towing my caravan the rear end sits a bit low and it would be nice to pump it up a bit like I could do with my old Carlton.

I have a set of air adjustable rear shocks from my old Carlton, and was wondering if they could be fitted to my Omega. Are Carlton and Omega rear shocks the same?

Anyone know how much the day pass is for this without ABS membership ... mite stay in a pod this year to escape them pesky midges  :(

If you want to bring your car into the site then it is £10 per car per day, if you want to camp then it's £20 per night. If you park in the outer car park and walk in then it's free.
You only need to be a member of a VBOA club to camp in the show area, If your not a club member then you will need to camp in the public camping area

Omega General Help / Help needed with electrcal fault.
« on: 10 February 2015, 11:18:04 »
My 2.5TD has a strange fault, and was wondering if anyone else has had this before.

After getting in the car I noticed that with no key in the ingition the dash lights were on dim, on inserting the key andf turning the ingition on the dash lights went brigt but had no glow plug light. tryed to start engine and it fired up and all lights went out. Drove car home with no problem but when I turned the ingition off the engine carried on running, I removed the key but this did not stop the engine. it was not over reving and was running as normal but the only way to shut it down was to stall it.

With engine stoped the dash lights were on again, take key out lights still on but radio and heater fan switch off. Car starts fine and drives as should but will not shut down with key,

Has any one ever had this problem? or can sugest where to start looking.

Yes you are correct, but in my case as the engine is going into my Manta A series, with a modified water system,I don't have any problems with water temp. and can therefore do away with the heat exchanger. It is just that I have had the exchanger fail before and it's not nice. also know of others that have failed, so I'd rather remove the problem so I don't have to worry. :)

Been playing with my V6 engine today. Now its all clean and newly painted I have been looking at how to route the oil pipes in order to do away with the factory oil cooler and fit an external one.

Quite pleased with how its comeing along.

Omega General Help / Re: Help needed in getting 2.5TD ECU upgrade
« on: 14 December 2014, 20:08:04 »
Well just got back from a weekend away with the caravan.

The car deffinatly pulls better with the new chip, not as much gear changing needed, but it is using more fuel. Last time I averaged 28mpg with the van, but only got 26mpg this weekend.

Another strange thing that happened a few times was, when trying to start the car the yellow light with engine simble would flash. Acording to the owners manule this is an immobilizer fault, after taking the key in and out of the barrel a few times the light will go out and the car will then start.

I think it is time to get the car cheaked out on Teck2 as there is deffinatly something going on with the immobilizer. Who or where is the best place around Coventry to take it into?

Omega General Help / Re: Help with Diesel leak
« on: 14 December 2014, 19:44:53 »
Thanks for the advice, I'll stay clear of OP Com then. Used it fine on my old Carlton, but that was 8 years older than the Omega.

Going to have a look at doing the seals over Xmas, when I have more time and can get the car in the garage, I'll let you know how I get on.

I don't think there is any setup on that one (but don't use that code reader if there is).

Its a bit of a pig to get to from what I remember, but been a while since I've been that intimate with a tractor.

Why do you say not to use op com? Or have I miss understood you.

Magwheels.  Thanks for the advice, you back up the video. It is how sensitive the position of the top is that worry's me. According to the video even with making the caseing before dismantling it you will not be able to set it up without software.

Looks like a job for over Xmas, when the car can be off road for few days if needed. Also need to do injector seals so logical to do both jobs at same time.

Having now done some more reserch on the web it would seem that the deisel pump is leaking from the control unit to pump gasket. I have got a new gasket set but on all the vids i found they are doing the gasket change on a VW and use VAG software to set the pump up.
I have a copy of OP COM which I think should have the software for setting the pump up but can any let me know for sure and are there any members who could do the job for me, as to be honest I haven't realy got the time.

This is a youtube vidio showing how to change the gaskets if it will help anyone out.

Omega General Help / Help with Diesel leak
« on: 06 December 2014, 16:47:56 »
After moveing the Omega down the drive this morning I found a wet patch of diesel on the drive.

On investigating it would seem that the gasket arrowed in the pic is leaking, is this a common problem, does it even form a diesel seal?

It's not a big leak, no spraying that I can see and it only drips, if not the gasket, any other ideas as to were it could be leaking from.
