General Car Chat / Re: Count down to the new(ish) car arrival
« on: 08 November 2017, 12:12:48 »
I now have Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 285/30/20 on the rear of my car. Much improved. :y
Having had good results on the Omega with PS4, I am tempted to go for them.  But then the recommended tyre is SportMaxx GT (JO), I feel I should try it how it is supposed to be, as a baseline.

Up until the last lot of SportMaxx RTs I had, the Dunlop 9000/SportMaxx range has served me well :y

I am looking to get the Pilot Sport 4 all round for the Zed, I`d like to get the Pilot Sport 4S all round but they don`t make one the right size for the front  :-\

I tend to buy them from HIDS4U on ebay... no complaints at all, ie what I ordered is what arrives...

You won't buy them from ebay, I won't buy generic/unbranded from Halfords... even though we both know they probably share the same supplier ::)
The cheapo chinese aren't great to begin with, but lose their illumination really quickly.  So, yes, I can buy a pair of D2S for under £25 delivered, but they aren't worth it for me.

Same with low grade LEDs etc, they lose illumination power faster than higher grade LEDs.

So, yes, might share a supplier (though probably not), but the quality is unlikely to be the same.

We pays our moenys and make our own choices.  But for others reading, they need to understand the facts to make an informed decision :y

The ones I got from Autobulbs direct were Phillips but came in plain white boxes, IIRC £72 for a pair.

Comma do Ecolife 5W-30 ACEA C1  :y
Yup, had seen that before, £30 for 5l from Amazon was cheapest I could find...  ...or £47 from Halfrods if in a hurry :D

I use Opie Oils for the Zed, I find their prices ok and your`re getting quality products, look for discount codes and take advantage of them.

Personally I don`t see the point in trying to find oil for £20/5l on a car that costs £1000`s

/stupid question

I've never actually replaced the HID bulbs before, best to disconnect battery? Considering changing that anyway, as it's turning over a bit slow now. Winter kicking in.

You could always just full the fuses rather than disconnect the battery, saves losing radio stations and clock settings. I also found it easier to just remove the headlights from the car for access  :y

I recently bought from Powerbulbs online :y

https://www.powerbulbs.com/store/search/d2s

Thanks. Which ones did your go for? Just standard OSRAM?

I got mine from HERE

Did you see a good improvement?

Yes I did see a good improvement, they do deteriorate over time and you don`t really notice until you change them. When you take the old ones out have a look at the sphere about halfway up, that is a good indicator on the bulb condition, if it is fairly clear then the bulb is still good, the ones I changed were grey and the light from the new bulbs was a lot better.

IIRC HIDS4U and Autobulbs direct are the same company with different trading names.

General Car Chat / Re: XC60- initial thoughts

Well, I’ve had it a week and am delighted. Just turned 800 miles today, collected from Edgware with 11 miles on the clock. Drove it up here & then down to Devon for a few days and back home yesterday.

It’s just superb and I’m glad I got it. I was a bit cautious about committing to such a large spend - but now know I made the right decision.

The ride is superb, excellent built quality, comfortable and surprisingly economic - for a 2.4l 5 pot with 4WD I’ve averaged 47 since collection. Driving style isn’t sporty - but I wasn’t expecting that. It’s only 5mm wider than the Mondeo, but a bit shorter length and higher, anything over 70 really sees the mpg fall, hey ho.

Tax refund on the Mondeo turned up in 6 days as well, so alls good  :y

Do you worry about parking it close to other cars, Robert.........such as at the supermarket?

Last thing you want is for some ne'er-do-well to park next to your new pride and joy and then fling the  door open on his 1989 Orion.

But surely that can happen with any car ? I have a policy. I never want a car that somebody would want to nick or that I would lose sleep over if it got wacked in the supermarket. Life is simpler that way.

I used to have a neighbour when I lived in London who treated himself to a Porshe. He was afraid to drive it anywhere, and certainly wouldn't park it in a public place. So what's the point ?

Bit like my mate with his Insignificant. Parks it way away from anyone at local Tescos, Comes back and finds it surrounded. ;D ;D

That has happened to me on more than one occasion  >:(

Omega General Help / Re: Omega A R25 Hydraulic or Cable
« on: 05 November 2017, 12:43:23 »
He’s asking about Omega A (Carlton in uk i believe). And im pretty shure that had a clutch cable. At least on the four cylinders.

The R25 was fitted to all models apart from the 3.0 24v which was fitted with the R28 according to the Haynes manual, the R28 was hydraulic so I`m assuming the R25 was cable operated from the clutch.
