Omega General Help / Re: Original tyre make ??

The reason i am asking is that i will be changing the tyres very soon because the cheap $hit that is on right now ( Linglong , not my choice !!  ) although great for slideing the ass out , even in the dry , i will need something that will keep me on the road and not destroy the car and newly fitted bodykit  8-) 8-) ::) ::)

Go for anything branded and you will not go wrong.....

Tyres are a frequent discussion on here, personally i rate Dunlop SP9090's however others will say that they are a bit loud and not a grippy as michelin, it's personal choice

As standard they normall came with pirellis or michelin's and either of them are as good as the other IMHO

i know on the VVOC Vaux Vec OwnersClub a guy carried out a turbo conversion on a 3.0 v6 and h tried putting 3 bar boost through it and blew the conrods to pieces but most engines without extensive results would do the same!

as for over heating all vauxhalls run hot and its a vauxhall trait in my opinion!

your right about roadwars though thrashed constanly especially Pat he seems to like the limiter bouncing about abit

;D 3 bar of boost on an engine that has cast pistons and stock compression ratio is only going to end in tears.

I don't believe running hot is a trait. A modern engine runs, on the whole, at the temperature determined by the thermostat / fan switches.  Unless the cooling system is really in a bad way it won't stray outside these limits in our climate. You might start to find weaknesses as you tune an engine, but left stock they've got huge reserves of cooling over what's normally required.

A Ford Zetec engine runs at around 100 degrees C on the manufacturer's thermostat (doesn't start opening until 98).

I suspect plod vehicles suffer from the "not my car" syndrome. (We've all done it in pool cars / hire cars. Imagine it when you are "the law" and are unlikely, therefore, to get nicked.)

They were in real crap order when we removed then on weds afternoon but fortunatly there was no damage to them. The biggest head ache we had was getting them all in to the car to get them home and some cunning plans were needed but we got there in the end.

 ;D ;D
ahh yes...how to get 2 interior into an Omega  ;D

A quick wash, hoover and some leather feed saw them in good order, all of this was done by an enthusiastic teenager  ;D

the pin configuration on the multiplug is different so that will need modding, nothing too serious though  :y

this was one of the reasons why i bought them, they would go straight in however the wiring does need to be sorted.

The pretensioners need changing for the later ones and i have a feeling that the seat heater wiring will need modding, that is a job that need doing

Omega General Help / Pre facelift MV6 leather in a facelift
« on: 24 May 2008, 02:11:05 »
got home tonight, whilst i am changing the sump on sister in laws Corsa my stepson was cleaning my latest purchase

There are a few issues that need to be sorted, the wiring for the heated seats is slightly different, as is the wiring for the pre-tensioners, they need to be swapped for and put on the earlier seats.

The backs are already on  having been washed, hoovered, fed and polished.......hmmmmmm recaro leather, nice :y

Lazydocker is right, i would start with ignition, LPG will highlight any issues like that.

Whereabouts in London are you?

Omega General Help / Re: Rear window replaced, but...

the perimeter of the glass has a smaller black section where the brake light sits.

the light is not stuck to the glass, the seal is there to make contact, nothing more than that

Omega General Help / Re: key blanks
« on: 03 June 2008, 18:54:22 »
Astra and Zafiras use the traditional key not the laser cut one, that pic there is not an astra/Zaf key

There are two types of key for a Omega they will have either 105 or 296 on them, you need to get the same one as you already have as they are slightly different and not interchangeable

Omega General Help / Re: Siezed aux belt tensioner!
« on: 03 June 2008, 18:58:31 »
glad it was sorted, and with no cam belt damage as well......it might be worth buying a lottery ticket this week, lady luck is smileing on you.
I have seen many pulleys seize, the belt shred and get ingested into the cambelt area and the damage is generally phenominal.

Heater bypass valve, it is at the back of the engine and is generlly the biggest culprit

Thanks guys!

It's embarrassing to note that I have been a member on here almost since the forum was set up and yet it took a newbie to point out Tunnie's excellent maintenance guide.  :-[ :-[

In my defence, there's just so much on here that I can't keep up with everything (I know, a poor excuse!  ;)).

I'll check out the scrappies' prices before I take the plunge.

Nick

you and me both then!!!

I sat for an hour on the weekend and figured out how to change the motor over, once i have established where the rods went and how to undo them it was easy.....

My advice is take your time, allow for far more time than you need and then you wont feel the need to rush it

Omega General Help / Re: Tech2 Gearbox update...
« on: 24 May 2008, 01:28:27 »
I had both done last night by The Boy.

It's really like driving a different car, and one that doesn't blow a tornado in the car as well

This is the second Miggy i have had it done the S/W updates for, the gearbox changes are a lot smoother

I also had the engine software updated, it seems to have lost all its flat spots, the pedal isn't quite so trigger happy (DBW remember)

Hi all,
does anybody know if there are 2.2s with limited slip differential? :-?
I became to wonder, cause I want to change my common(no LSD) with LSD, but I can't find anywhere... :-[

No, as far as i was aware LSD was only fitted to 3.0/3.2 ex plod cars

Omega General Help / Re: Cleaning up exhaust end pipes
« on: 26 May 2008, 17:51:21 »
The standard pipe ends are 65mm, i have seen some tips that go up to 62mm, you might have to do some 'trimming'

the scuttle drain will be blocked, this means the water is backing up and has got into the cabin via the heater.

simple to fix, look down by the pollen filter and you will see the water, at the bottom there will be a grommet, get something like a coat hanger and try cleaning out the grommet, this will stop it from happening again
