General Car Chat / Re: Poll - Chrisgixer and Phaetons

I don't think they'll let me in anyway. I haven't got a suit and tie. ;D

You can borrow one of mine...it'll fit, potentially  ;D

Get a 6.0 W12 Phaeton, the only one you'd be happy with, slap some LPG on it...and it'd only cost £5.43 per mile to run  ;D

I have seen a few Bentley Flying Spur's LPG'd...so it is do-able. 552bhp certainly does help them move.

Have you really got 6 Omega's Terry are you a glutton for punishment
Oh yes. R706FHD, the wife's 2.0 estate, V324DTO, daughter Catherine's 2.5 saloon, X84GNB, my 2.5 estate, Y188NFA son Ben's 2.2, KR02RSO son Jonny's 2.2, and OE03EWW my 3.2 saloon and family spare. All are taxed and insured and currently in running order, though often one is under repair. I thank all members of this forum for help keeping them going.

I guess that must be an ex Thames Valley Police one, white perchance?  ;D
I know Norton fairly well, I often travel to Ston Easton a few time a months. I also own x2 former TVP Omega's.
Al, did I remember correctly Vauxworld having oe Thermostat's at a good price?

Bit dull inside though  :-\

You got anything interesting in stock at the moment Josh?

Sadly, everything I have currently could only dream of 30mpg, let alone 50+  ;D
That particular S80 does look dull, you'd ideally want the SE Lux version which has all the toys...but still the interior is restrained...they do look much better with a lighter interior.

We can always take a trip to auction, or give me a brief and I can try and find something?

Volvo S80 D5 is the only sensible solution. 215bhp, all the toys you'd ever need and much more affordable compared to the E-Class. Residual's are not as good, but you're paying considerably less for the vehicle. Volvo's in general do high miles well  :y

What precisely is FatherT's requirements?

Jaime, there's a model shop in Kidlington, anything decent there?

The Grand Voyager 3.3 isn't half bad. Aside from the pushrod engine and the terrible gear changes  ;D
The equipment level is good, ride quality reasonable and it is put together pretty well.
The 05+ plus model has electric sliding doors, sat nav and a host of other bits and pieces.

Omega General Help / Re: Air Intake/Plenum Length
« on: 05 October 2013, 22:14:29 »
I may have confused it with my overly long answer tbh, Tunnie's was better. All DBW's without exception are long plenum. Only later 3.0's are long. So, early 3.0's and all 2.5's are short.

Thanks both, I'm a simpleton at times so short answers work best  :D ;D

Josh, i don't suppose you have any background info on my Omega from when it was in service do you?

The reg is OY53 URM from memory? I'll find out if you want? Did you buy it direct?

All DBW V6's have the long plenum, as do later 3.0's in both MFL and FL. I don't know if the early 3.0's had short plenum's like the 2.5?

So in short, no all FL's didn't have long plenum's as the 2.5's always had short one's if fitted to PFL, MFL or FL.

Tunnie, I've heard that quick driving lengthens the life of bulbs  ::)

I paint sump nuts/plugs with a bright luminous paint before the vehicle goes in for a full service at a main dealer. The local chap I use, I trust 100%, I know he does whatever I ask and at a very good price. However, some vehicles have to visit a franchise (main dealer).
With the plug painted it is obvious if they have removed it, marks to the paint to indicate the oil was drained, or replaced it as it won't be luminous anymore  ;D
Land Rover, Renault, Ford and Vauxhall have all been caught.
I will also fill the washer fluid to the top and tape over it with 'Do Not Fill'. Some dealers will charge up to £5 per litre of pre mixed screenwash.
The best experience was with a Land Rover dealer, not my local Oxford one I must say...I took a 2009 Range Rover in for new brake pads and discs all round. 3 weeks later it went back in for a suspension component, it had covered 288 miles in that 3 week period.
They then phoned me with the usual list of things it needed doing, and apparently the front brake pads were very low, and it would be 'dangerous' to leave it.
I duly authorised them to replace them, and went in to collect the vehicle with the previous invoice dated 3 weeks prior.

We had a nice conversation when I asked how after 288 miles they had degraded to a dangerous condition. I couldn't believe their stupidity! I refused to pay any of the invoice and left...and heard nothing from them after that.

If you need some help in getting recourse from the dealer, let me know Max!
I have a copy of the OFT guidlines for used car sales, which really should be compulsory reading for anyone before they buy a used car!

General Car Chat / Re: BMW given new lease of life!
« on: 29 September 2013, 18:00:52 »
The trick now is to tell your colleagues it's still awful to drive...then you get it all to yourself  ::)
I own x2 preserved police vehicles, naturally both Omega's. One has full conspicuity markings, and the local traffic officers keep telling me how they'd much prefer to drive an Omega over the current Insignia's. They sometimes pop by just to have a look  ;D

It does seem though, that it can be very hit and miss with the BMW's, some officers I've spoken to from different forces really rate them, others despise them...but one recurring theme is they don't put up with the punishment as well as other vehicles can, like the V70 for example.

General Car Chat / Re: Will these spark plugs fit my Vectra?
« on: 29 September 2013, 15:04:57 »
Apparently, those plugs would fit a C20XE.
The plugs listed for a Vectra B 1.8 are;
9195109 @ £2.44 each on TC

All sorted now, with thanks to Albs.
