Omega General Help / Re: I’ve done it again!!!!!

I don't remember trying to position the cams before fitting the sprockets. (but it was a long time ago)

My inclination is to take notice of the VX training guide but I do wonder if there is  something 'special' about your sprockets :-\

I had my crankshaft at about 30 degrees BTDC so all the pistons were safe distance down the bores to avoid valve contact.

It’s the actual notch position on the end of cams where the sprocket fits onto. All the sprockets are marked up correctly it’s cams 2 and 3 that are messed up
It's 15+ years since I rebuilt the engine in my 1994 2.5 v6 but my recollection was that there was a peg in the end of the camshaft and it engaged with a groove in the end of the taper on the camsprocket.

I think there is only one way the sprocket will fit :-\

The numbers are cast into the face of each sprocket near to the relevant notches (a 1 & a 2 on the short bank 1 sprockets and a 3 and a 4 on the longer bank 2 sprockets)

being the early Omega
does it have the fuel pump relay with the diode and 2 coils (as per omega A) ?
that takes a negative pulse from crank sensor to trigger firing
so if you have a duff one, you could loose spark and fuel IIRC

BUT

still think you need to resolve this non working remote fob / immobilizer

With the omega if you weren't using the fob to lock it you couldn't use your car with just the key?

when you last had it running , did you use the remote to open it ?

is there an ID40 chip in the key ?
when trying to sync, do you hold the fob next to the key when cranking ?(is there a transponder chip in the fob ?)

lock car, remove battery for 10 mins, unlock car ,key in position 2, aim fob at  sensor for 10 seconds, put fob by key and crank ?
I really don't think the 1994-96 cars had a transponder chip. They didn't have the collar round the ignition switch that talks to the transponder chip in later cars.

I'm looking at wiring diagrams and to me it looks like the car shouldn't be cranking if it is immobilised
I can't clearly remember as it 10 years since I sold mine but I think you might be right about not cranking unless the immobiliser is satisfied  :-\

262
I cant get mine to lock with the fob, I just tried putting the key in the ignition and holding the lock button down while I point it at the sensor and I got nothing
If it won't unlock the doors it won't release the immobiliser. Did you change the batteries in the fob?

263
I used to find that I had to be fairly precise about pointing the IR transmitter directly at the bulb up by the mirror.

264
Immobilizer
is the ID40 chip in the key ?

+1 for Immobiliser

BUT

the fob flashes but nothing happens to the car (it's the one that has a key and a separate fob)

The earliest cars didn't have a chip in the key. They used an infra-red transmitter in a separate fob that you had to point at a bulb up by the rear view mirror. Once you had disabled the immobiliser you had about a minute to start the engine before it immobilised again.

My first Omega (1994 L reg IIRC) had it. I think they only used that system for the first 2 years.

Silly question - does the soundbar support a bluetooth connection from more than one device at once?

Have you tried disconnecting from the ipad ?

Just before I lifted the bonnet to change the shredded tensioner I noticed the boot light was not working?. so I checked and found out the battery was completely dead after 4 days of sitting idle due to the fact it couldn't be driven. now the battery is about 6 months old and I drove over 200 miles on the Thursday so I would have thought there would be a good charge in said battery and the alternator obviously works otherwise it wouldn't have gone at all. bloody cars eh..
Not necessarily - my 2.6 managed about 200 miles with a dead alternator before the battery was totally flat. If your tensioner was knackered then the belt wouldn't be tight enough to spin the alternator fast enough to put any charge into the battery.

After a change of plan, we've started on the exhaust headers:

they're not going out through the inner wings, but as block huggers so we can avoid cutting the car. The strap you can see bolted to the block is where the steering shaft runs, so we can do more of the work with the engine out of the car. This is fiddly enough as it is without making it harder still. The other side ought to be easier, as there's a much bigger gap between the oil filter and engine mount than between the starter and mount.
That should keep the starter and solenoid nice and toasty. ;)

Will there be space to extract the starter if it needs some TLC without pulling the manifold off? :-\

Bought a used Mazda mummy bus.

Trying to find out if I can switch the screen from Japanese (Kanji?) to jinglish ::)

I was thinking aftermarket discs but you have genuine on there now.  :-\
When I had this issue on my Omega it was the aftermarket discs which had warped in about two thousand miles. When I checked them with a DTI the run out was nowhere near as bad as I expected, but new Trade Club discs sorted it and they've been fine since. When I had the issue, if I just lightly touched the brakes prior to braking, the steering wheel twitched back and forth, but when I braked properly it was fine, almost as if the caliper had taken any slack out between the pads and disc.
Sorry I can't be of more help.  :-\
When I had the problem on my first Omega I had vibration at motorway speed (eg 80) even without touching the brakes.

I reckon the problem is as much to do with uneven wear as it is to do with actual warping. My thinking being that poor quality pattern disks are not homogeneous and that they have soft patched which wear quicker. You might measure some run-out but you will probably also find that the disk is thinner in places and hence out of balance.

Couple the imbalance and the pulsing due variable thickness with some part worn bushes and you get some properly unpleasant shaking through the front suspension and steering :(

Omega General Help / Re: Isofix anchors to facelift estate

Anyone have the link to the ebay fitting kit for an Omega?
I don't think there is one.

The Omega was never type approved for isofix mounts (as far as I know) so you won't get any help from Vauxhall.

Ford sell a retrofit isofix bracket for the focus. Search for Ford 1 357 238. This bracket is a simple symmetrical bracket with two sensibly placed mounting holes. The standard seat belt buckles are attached to the body somewhere behind the rear seat so there is definitely some solid structure there. Your task is to safely attach the Ford bracket to the body.......
