General Car Chat / Re: 3.2 CDX ?
« on: 21 September 2013, 22:51:09 »
I've come across 3 of these before, all green Estate's. All in the 2002/03 range.
I was informed, they were non UK origin vehicles that were actually first registered in the UK.
One of them had belonged to the MOD. I can't comment on this vehicle's ownership. I am 100% sure, this vehicle has not been butchered and it indeed has been like this from new.

General Car Chat / Re: Oxfordshire - Cambelts
« on: 18 September 2013, 22:10:02 »So, when do we want to do this?
Do what, Jammies car? I don't even like him.... would never talk too him either
He's a sensitive soul you know, if we're going to talk about him...best do it when he can't hear
Well, he's going to scrap the car anyway...so best not bother with its oil leak

I've got space for 6 vehicles to be worked on, 8 at a push, and other parking for guests...so we could make a good day of it!

General Car Chat / Oxfordshire - Cambelts
« on: 18 September 2013, 11:30:40 »
Are there any members local to Oxford, or maybe further afield who want a cambelt change?
Daz will be coming down at some point to do 1, possibly 2 for me, so it'd be ideal timing (like the pun? )for any others who may need them doing.
Dates are dependant on when Daz is free, and if anyone else wants work done...nothing set in stone yet!

General Car Chat / Re: Would I buy another Vauxhall?
« on: 16 September 2013, 19:51:33 »
L322 Range Rover, preferably the 06my facelift onwards. 4.4 n/a V8 or the 4.2 sc.
2006+ Volvo S80 D5 or 2.5T, maybe even V8.
2005+ Lexus GS
Subaru Legacy
X350 Jaguar XJ
Do any of those appeal? Or would you want something more compact?

The vehicle belongs to the insurance company, the previous owner could buy it back, but they would pay whatever the applicable rate for a category X vehicle is.
If they didn't want it, it may be offered to the OP. If not, the vehicle would be sold via Copart. The vehicle will however carry the Cat X marker meaning it's a 'stolen, recovered vehicle'.

General Car Chat / Re: not many about????
« on: 15 September 2013, 20:30:43 »I see four every day.
But being cruel...I'd ask how many of them do you see move? Only 3
How's the new 2.6 Elite going?

There's a '53' 2.2 CD saloon locally, and it's black. Oh hang on, no...it's silver aswell
It has the odd 16'' 7 spoke design similiar to the late Elite 17'' design. These wheels seemed to be available from new and came on the very last CD's.

General Car Chat / Re: Guess The Average Car Values Quiz
« on: 15 September 2013, 19:26:01 »
7 out of 7, but bearing in mind my occupation...anything less would probably be a bad sign
Maybe I should start a weekly quiz, guess the value of this vehicle at auction?

General Car Chat / Re: Which Omega Would You Buy?
« on: 12 September 2013, 22:44:09 »
Having had at a rough count 19 Omega's, the following answers are based on the experience of owning some of those vehicles on a long term basis, or only a few days/weeks.
1) When I was 18, I was looking for my first car...and initially it was going to be an Astra G 2.0 DTI. I'd always liked the look of the Omega's, but felt it wasn't the best vehicle to buy. So then I ended up with a 2.2 CDX, it had only done 28k miles when I bought it. It was excellent, never went wrong and only needed routine maintenance .It was the favoured car out of all of my friends for long distance journeys. Actually, they hated to admit it, but it was the car they always wanted to travel in. It is comfortable, quick, refined and substanially cheaper than the 5 series alternative. I could get a younger vehicle, with more equipment but with a Vauxhall badge. It never did, and still doesn't bother me it 'only' being a Vauxhall, VX have a proud heritage.
I now have x2 3.2 Manual's, both of these are preserved police vehicles, so fall outside the usual use for a vehicle.
2) No
3) I no longer have one as my every day vehicle, sadly for me they are just a bit too old, and in some circumstances I need to have a younger vehicle. My 2.6 manual Elite was replaced with a 2005/2006 Range Rover...and the equipment level really is very similiar. x4 heated seats, xenon's, cruise, sunroof, good audio, parking sensors, sat nav etc.
4) For power, yet some respectable fuel consumption...I'd suggest a 2.6 manual.
5) I prefer the look of leather, so would have that over cloth.
6) 3.2 Elite saloon
7) Capable, refined and fits in everywhere, whether that be a 5* Hotel, or the local Tesco's.
They are old vehicles now, and sadly they will and do require maintenance above and beyond what some people expect and are prepared to do. No one spends £800 on a £1000 vehicle, unless they appreciate the fact it's an Omega...not just a car.
9) No, both 3.2 manual's return better MPG than my old 2.6 Elite.
10) If you look at vehicle's circa 2003, I'd struggle to suggest much else up to £1,700 that'd be much good. The Mercedes C220 CDI 2001+ is worth a look, modern(ish) look, good mpg and well equipped if you search carefully but smaller than the Omega.
