My issue at night isn’t the illumination from my lights. It’s being blinded/dazzled by other people. Me and wifey both wear spectacles and she was having same issue. She just had eye test and bought new glasses with anti glare. She reckons they’ve improved things dramatically. I’m going to have to buy some cos it’s got to the stage I’ll avoid driving at night because of it.

I also wear driving specs so I know what you mean about oncoming traffic. 
Both of my cars have fiercely bright headlights, which is great for me but not great for others. They also both have Full Beam Assist, which means that they dip when the sensor sees the actual oncoming headlights, whereas I tend to dip just a split second before I see the actual headlights. This function can mean that when approaching a blind bend, you can momentarily blind oncoming traffic for just a split second. For this reason I'm not a particular fan of this function, but others love it. The irony is, if I'm sat behind an older car that thinks I'm on full beam, when I overtake them they stay on full beam to blind me in return, not realising that the cars fitted with super bright headlights are also fitted with some serious anti-dazzle features. Their attempts to blind me just make my mirrors go darker. 

when i worked in germany mid nineties my boss gave me a pair of night driving glasses & they were good. not only did they prevent dazzling but in fog the distance & clarity was enhanced. a couple of weeks ago i spotted an advert for some so i sent for them. i dont do a lot of night driving but i wore them for a 60 ml journey a few nights ago & they were ok. also if one needs glasses for driving they fit quite easily over your specs . not tried them in fog yet though.

a mate has a pug 207 petrol & told me its real heavy on oil usage. the engine is very clean doesnt seem to be spewing any out. it runs spot on , no smoking at all. we are baffled. the engine i know had a new timing belt, valves about 9mths ago. suggestions pls 

Which petrol engine? The THP150 (aka N14 in the MINI) generally drinks oil like George Best did alcohol. Known for weak blow-by control (piston rings) and poor head oil control (stem seals and valve guides both wear), coking of the inlet tract & valve backs due to the combination of excessive blow-by and direct injection providing no 'cleaning' effect on the intake..

THP150 is the 1.6 turbocharged engine (and variants).not sure about the engine but i know the cam belt snapped & valve guides, stem

seals were done as they needed doing. original owners couldn,t afford the towage & to pay for timing belt & all the work it entailed to put it back on the road. they eventually told the workshop to keep it & sent the guy the documents in lieu of payment.

update - i have managed to obtain two - one is a full size exact match to my original set, but takes all the space in the boot up. toyed with the idea of making a false floor making it level with the top of the wheel, but lost far too much boot hieght.   the other is a 16" space saver . (on its way still ) .that will do.

i am after a space saver wheel & tyre.  its for a DS 4 . on it is a 215 55 r17. ( 4 stud ) i have been told a 16" will do as they are 125 80 r16. but the vehicle its intended for has an electric handbrake system & are led to believe that makes a difference to what i buy. up to pres  been looking on ebay with no joy .

since posting i have found out this. in the spare wheel well there is a electric contraption which i thought was some kind of fuel lift pump. but is something to do with the electric handbrake which is an automatic thing.

 friday morning i had a phone call to say my son had been taken to hospital with a heart attack. he had phoned his doc,s surgery to say he had serious chest pains & they sent an ambulance to take him to hospital. 36 hours later having nothing been found to be wrong with him he was discharged & allowed home. it turned out it was a reaction to a vape cig. how it was diagnosed he had another puff of the thing when he got off the hospital premises & almost immediately got the chest pains back.

Got the wobble bar set ordered, just waiting for them.  They are bolts that have 6 sided heads, that thread into the manifold. I think they are original, most parts on the car are. Once I have got the bolts out, will stick a nut and bolt setup on instead.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Glad to know that I'm not the only one who has had problems with this bolt 

i think i am right in saying west cornforth is just off the A1 so if so i am about 50mls south of you . i too are only 5 mins off the a1 & have a good selection of wobble bars so willing to give you an hand if needed.

on tonights "who wants to be a millionaire " a young guy didnt know the answer to the question which monarch was at the signing of the magna carta so he elected to phone a friend . his friend wasnt sure. as it was the contestant guessed and chose the correct answer. jeremy clarkson did ask why he chose the friend in question to try for the answer. the contestant replied " because he has a history degree

  the actual date & location was mentioned in the question , so john as one of the options i assumed some one that has a uni degree in history would know the answer.
