Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 td facelift buying advice / help
« on: 25 April 2013, 22:07:21 »
i have a 2.5td if they are warm they take a few more turns for it to start so i wouldn't worry about that also remember there a big 6 cylinder engine so takes a fair bit to get them started. if you didn't let the car heat when it was cold (i.e the engine heat light to turn off in the dash before starting the car) it will get it hard to start as its diesel! the diesel omega don't actually give out much smoke at all unless you drop the car down a gear to get power. i wouldn't worry about the black on the exhaust its diesel it happens and will be all over your boot soon!!! that idling speed is right mine is the same. the way of knowing if the car is idling too low, the car engine will be under pressure and start chucking while idling.
i would check the sump to make sure it hasn't been re welded especially around the sump plug as the  sump is very low.
if its an automatic id be cautious about buying it as the auto box isn't as good as the manual and give a bit of trouble i think
wouldn't worry about mileage cause they go for ever mine has 225000 miles and still running perfect and know they can get 350,000
good luck  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Engine Mountings 2.5 Diesel.
« on: 16 December 2012, 19:44:00 »
i bought these ones are perfect. you will have to get the part number off the engine mountings one of the engine mountings the part number is written on the rubber the other is written on the steel part. you will have to take out the engine mountings to see the part number or ring up Opel and ask them for the two different part numbers. :y

General Car Chat / Re: A sad Omega time ........

Congrats and commisserations at the same time Robert. :y :D
Ive noticed that quite a few regulars have put their Omegas up for sale in the last few weeks.Hoping to keep mine for one more year. After that who knows,I could be dead by then. ;D
An old Merc 190D or Skoda 1.9 TD are looking like the most likely replacements for mine when the time comes.

Thanks, I did enjoy my final drive today and was sorely tempted to put it in the garage and keep it as a plaything. However, the cost of insurance, tax and MoT come to over £500 a year - which I really can't justify. I have left the car in significantly better shape than I found it - so I guess have made a "contribution". On the downside, I have scrapped 4 other Omegas in the last 3 years or so as it made economic sense at the time.
happy driving mate  :) what are you driving now? 500 isnt  to bad i thought! my tax alone is around €1100 a year in ireland then there is an other couple of hundred for nct (mot) and insurance  :'(

see all kit cars are just that low and cant really rise them up and it is  used on the track as well as the road. i don't plan on dropping my omega that low at all. in fact was only thinking of lowering the back a small bit  :)
30mm (from standard, 15mm from LSC) is about the maximum to lower an Omega. Irmscher springs and B4 shocks are a good setup.  Any lower, you're always scrapping cats, diffs and everything else under the car. Not to mention skirts, tailpipes, bumpers and splitters if you have Irmscher bodykits.
ya that's what i thought i just want the wheel to fill the arch a bit more. :) i was thinking coil over kit for it more than lowering springs so i can adjust them as i please   :-\ are there any good coil over kits that anyone would recommend?

At risk of asking the obvious, surely, if the car is already lowered and you've broken 2 sumps already, then surely you would either slow down a bit or raise the suspension, and not lower it further :-\ would the guard not just end up being scraped along the floor and smashed up into the sump anyway :-\
the car isn't lowered yet and the plate is 6 mm thick it wont buckle too easy. and cause there are bends in the steel that will help it be stronger and  wont let it buckle as easy. my dad put a sump guard on his kit car west field cause the sump is about 3" off the ground and he made it out of 4 mm plate and that's holding up perfect and that scraps the road alot  :y

Rear saloon screen will fit all saloons as the body shell never changed only bumpers and trim and various bolt on panels between prefacelift and facelift so it appears the manufacturers have just done a bodge job
thats what i thought but i have it cut up now so to late to return

like your style Albitz!!
Pressing on down Irish country roads,it will always be a good idea to have one. ;)
See pic below for visual explanation. :D

i don't plan on a hole for the sump plug cause its only held on with 4 easy accessible bolts but wouldn't be a big job to drill a hole . and i think a sump guard is so so so so necessary Irish roads, they are desperate and the sump is so low on my 2.5td. i love driving in England your roads are so good your back roads are better than our national roads. and plus i plan on lowering the car a bit so need a guard. and already broke the sump twice   :y
