Ive got bonnet and boot dampers from a facelift.I think they will be the same, but best to check first.Maybe compare part numbers ?

Hi thanks fo that. I've just had a look at the EPC and there are two different part numbers so I won't take the chance.

Hi

Does anyone know the route of the wiring loom from the front passenger side footwell servo? Mine didn't seem to be working so I replaced it with a new one but that one does not work either so I want to check any connections etc, but if anyone knows the route that this wire takes it would be a big help in that I might not have to dismantle too much to find the connectors.

Omega General Help / Re: Grease leaking - cambelt tensioners

Cheers Mark. I'm having to do the cambelt every year so at least I know I can reuse this kit next year :)

WD-40 on the belt ? :-/...........not sure that would be a good idea, or have I misread/misunderstood ?

This is the post where I came accross the problem (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1266700696/2). Being unsure about the grease problem earlier I bought a Gates kit and fitted that with no problems and the squeeking/squeeling has gone now. Incidentally, that paint markings on this belt are much thinner that the VX belt so it might have worked.

Just looged on now and seend Mark DTM's comment so the VX kit was probably OK - I had planned to take it to VX for them to check but probably will not bother now.

Cheers guys  :y

Thanks guys. The grease is definately from the rollers. I checked some older posts and found a thread from last year where I had exactly the same problem (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1235840995). That set too was from VX and I replaced it with a Gates kit from the local motor factors and it was OK. I'm going to replace this set too with another Gates kit. It's a shame about loosing the trade club discount but i don't trust the VX sets anymore.

Omega General Help / Grease leaking - cambelt tensioners
« on: 16 September 2011, 09:59:17 »
Hi, changed the cambelt and tensioners, fitted brand new from VX. About 500 miles later checked because squealing noise - suspected the problem mentioned in another post where this is caused because the paint marks on the belt are too thick - wd40 solves this, however, noticed that the grease is leaking from both tensioners and I don't know if this is normal/acceptable. Anyone know? Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Turning cams with crank at 60 degrees
« on: 01 September 2011, 21:19:26 »
No ;D. I took the crankshaft lock off to put the belt on and forgot, and when I set the tension the crankshaft moved by about quarter inch and threw the timing out.

I could not remember if it was OK to turn the crank anti-clockwise without the belt on so went clockwise to be safe and reset the camshafts.

Didn't do any damage though - just taken it on a test drive and it's still running sweet :y

Omega General Help / Turning cams with crank at 60 degrees
« on: 01 September 2011, 16:19:26 »
Hi

I've got the crankshaft at 60 degrees before TDC - that is, the marker is at the 4 o'clock position. However, when I try and turn the no.1 and no.2 camshafts I feel something like a slight scraping and slight resistance. I don't want to move the cams round anymore in case the valves are touching the pistons. Is it posible to turn the cams by hand if they are touching or is that just by turning the crank?

Omega General Help / Re: Steering tie rod - symptoms
« on: 26 May 2011, 21:22:16 »
Thanks. At the moment the only symptoms I have is vibration above 70mph but I was not sure if that was the balancing. I noticed the gator when I changed the drop links. The car was fine until I took it for an MOT at Kwik-fit. They put it on the ramps and then made the car start jumping and bouncing. It failed on a broken rear coil spring which I replaced and then it passed, however driving home I felt something was not right, which turned out to be both wishbones knackered - also drop links knackered which I've replaced. I'll probably replace the tie rod too in the next few weeks.

Incidentally, after doing the rear coil springs I took it to Northamptom Motorsports to get the alignment done. They were really good and did the wishbones for me too, but I still find, after getting the alignment done the car still does not drive straight. Even going to WIM three times fails to make it drive straight. Left alone it veers to the left and to keep a straight line I have to turn the wheel around 5 degrees to the right - it's very annoying. Strange thing is that the guy at NMS did a test drive after the alignment and commented that it drove straight...  :-?

Hi, does anyone know what symptoms I would experience if the gator around the tie rod bearing (the one that goes through the steering ider) was leaking?

Omega General Help / Re: Petrol smell
« on: 21 May 2011, 08:04:39 »
I had this recently too - a very strong petrol smell with no sign of a leak, very strong when the car was turned off and also strong through the air vents.

I don't know if your engine is similar, but my problem was the depressurisation value on the fuel rail which was leaking. As the petrol was dripping down into the V of the engine there was never anything visible.
