Omega General Help / Re: 2.2 petrol exhaust problems
« on: 04 June 2016, 13:17:11 »
Thanks Tunnie, I will have a look at the manifold carefully later on by the way did not know that the 2.0 exhaust fitted the 2.2 could be a simpler and cheaper job.

Omega General Help / 2.2 petrol exhaust problems
« on: 03 June 2016, 23:51:03 »
The exhaust on my faithful hard working 2004 2.2 petrol estate has just started making the most awful rattle on start up. the noise starts to reduce after a minute then stops completely once the engine is up to temperature.
I think it is coming from the cat but the rear box blew its baffle and left a trail of fibreglass up Bury Hill last year.  I stuffed a piece of perforated tube into the tail pipe and it has been fine up now even passing an MOT recently with no problems and perfect emission figures.
Two questions really, are the eternal exhaust systems for sale on ebay any good and is the only option to replace the cat with a second hand part if it is fubared?
Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Central locking problem

Might try my other spare when I feel in the mood and have replaced the switches on that one.  Will report back if successful.

I cleaned and lubricated all the linkages before refitting the lock Andy.

If you sit in the car and use the remote to open and shut the door locks the driver's one occasionally gives a slight kick as if it is trying to operate but that is all.

It is one that I bought second hand on ebay and repaired with new micro switches following the excellent repair guide on this forum.
I tested it at work using a 12v dc supply and it was functioning perfectly (as was the one I removed) which makes me suspect the control unit.

Forget cars which can and will rot, get damaged etc. and buy a good jukebox instead.  The prices are booming and show no sign of slowing down due to overwhelming demand and a dwindling supply of good machines.  200 selection machines of the late 1950 era are the best buys.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Central locking problem
« on: 30 March 2016, 21:46:30 »
My off side (driver) door lock recently stopped working so I replaced it with a reconditioned spare that had new micro switches fitted but still it is not working.  All the other locks work perfectly and this is the second time I have replaced the lock in the nine years I have owned the car.  I can still lock/unlock the car with the key.

Is it possible that the central locking control unit in the footwell is not working properly?  I suspect this as all the micro switches do is stop and start the motor but the actual control unit reverses the motors etc.  Does anyone know the correct part number for the control unit?  I have seen one available part number 90512786 (GM 90 464 713) but am not sure if this is right for my car which is a 2004 2.2 CDX petrol estate.  Also would a replacement unit need re coding?

Any help would be much appreciated as the car is still mint apart from this small but annoying problem.

There is no need to damage the door card to open the passenger door lock.  The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, fortunately I had a spare passenger door lock so that I could see how the thing functioned.  All you need is some stout welding wire bent into a small hook (I used stainless steel) and a small torch to illuminate inside the door, a small single LED bulb type is perfect.
With the window fully wound down and the LED lighting up the door innards you should see a brown plastic cover fitted to the door lock.  You need to get the hook under this and pull up sharply to remove it, a bit of brute force is needed and it will probably split as it comes off.  If you have a spare lock you can fit the cover from this on reassembly as I did or just leave it off. (It is only there to try and stop thieves using a wire hook to open the door).  Once the cover is off you can get the hook under the locking lever and a swift pull up will open the door.  It really does help to have spare lock so you see exactly how to position the hook before pulling up to open the door.  It took me about 10 minutes of aborted attempts until I got the hook exactly the right shape to work properly but at least the door card was not damaged.

Taught myself to play in the sixties with Bert Weedon's  famous "Play in a Day" book as did many others at the time.
My son used the same book to learn 30 years later and found it just as helpful to get all the basic techniques.

Omega General Help / Re: Problems...

The bloke who charged my aircon replaced both valves and said the normal schraeder valves for car tyres will leak as the rubber seal in them is not suitable for the gas used.  Perhaps that is BS but the system is working fine at the moment.

Unfortunately STEMO it is true, ginger cake is one of my many weaknesses and I just wolf it down, my wife hates it and will leave the room when I start on one.  In fact she reckons that I must have a monster tape worm in my gut as nothing canl make me put on weight.  When I was young my parents even tried something called Complan as I was so underweight but it was a waste of time.  It's a bit of a sod getting sand kicked in my face but I am used to it now.

Judging by all these posts I must be a freak of nature as I am 6 feet tall and weigh 8.5 stone (not changed since I was 14 which is now 50 years ago).  I eat all the wrong things such as a whole ginger cake in about six large bites and plenty of chocolate etc.  Needless to say it drives my wife mad as she only has to look at at a cake to put on weight.  Must be high metabolic rate or good genes as my grandad was just the same.

Omega General Help / Re: Water pump question
« on: 27 September 2014, 22:36:46 »
Thanks for the quick reply James.  It appears fine and the impeller turns smoothly, do they have a shelf life?  i thought it was lost forever but it was buried under some jukebox parts.  The garage is kept dry with a dehumidifier so there is never a problem with corrosion.

Omega General Help / Water pump question
« on: 27 September 2014, 22:16:48 »
I have just found a new water pump that I bought for my old 2.0 Omega estate nearly 10 years ago.  Will it fit my 2.2 estate or do I have to buy another one?  The cam belt will soon be due for renewal and I always fit a new pump at the same time.

Omega General Help / Re: A/C HP Valve Part Number
« on: 30 May 2014, 19:46:20 »
13277003 is the correct part number which replaces the original part 52458177.  I bought one last week for my car but am still struggling to fit it at present as 15mm socket does not fit mine, good luck with yours.
