General Car Chat / Re: Had a bump today

Glad to hear it worked out OK.

My opinion insurance is a total rip-off anyway.  My protected no claims probably isn't worht the bother at all.  Back a couple of years ago, some low life walked into the road in fornt of me doing on of those heel-dragging walks just to p me off.  I was going slowly anyway so to try to have his desired effect the thing decided then to walk down the road until arriving at his car. sadly for him still no effect. finally he opened his door into the side of my car as I passed!  Insurance agreed not my fault and after an argument about why I should WRITE OFF my mint Omega for his neglegence they sorted it out.  When I went to get reinsured they had recorded the claim as bing against me!!!!  When that was sorted they wanted to drastically increase the premium.  Where does protection of NCD come in to that?  They weren't able to give any answer...
Always best to keep away from claims I'd say as anything they pay you'll return for years to come despite protected NCD! :(

I believe... left not turnoed over for a VERY long time the rings can partially "weld to the cylenders", hence the oiling.  I think though that just a general spray with 3 in 1 is the job.  All you're trying to protect are the rings.  I'd put the plugs back in and close the bores from ambient moisture.

could all be rubbish of course... :P

Did you get this sorted Mick?
No EML sounds like there could be no power getting to the ECU (?)  This would prevent both diesel and glow plug.  How do you know there's no diesel coming through (just to check).

Nice images Albitz.  The covers that can be seen do look a bit tinny but I definately seen a cast version somewhere...

Hopefully SMD, you'll find that when the bagpipes ater rested in place, just about everything can only fit in 1 place. That sort of technique has worked well for me on the Mig...

Regarding above, I don't have cruise control so can't answer that 1. sorry... :-X

The 1800 Magnum had a decent cover I think.  Certainly there's a cast alloy version that will do the job if I can find 1...

I can't believe what GM were thinking with the tin crap. maybe they had invested in oil shares or something! ;D

Thanks Allbitz,

Thanks again,

Martin :y

Omega General Help / Re: exhaust manifold
« on: 30 December 2013, 20:47:50 »
I suspected an exhaust manifold leak some time back.  Ran beautifully and idled without problem.  I even took it to the local exhaust guy who offered to do something and booked it in... before going back, I noticed under the hood :-X bonnet that there is a rubber pipe connection between 2 sections of the exhaust recycling system this was split/repaired issue solved.  (sounded superb though!)  Might be worth a look to make sure its not just that simple. :)

Back some time ago in the dark... I connected the leads the wrongway (crossed over).  there was a bit of a fizzing sound and the leads are inclined to get fried (a bit) but I didn't suffer any other issues.

If you managed to get the other engine started the leads weren't the wrong way round...

I'd go for fuses first.

Omega General Help / Re: Breakdown . . diagnosis needed

Bingo Bago!

I have regularly (for various reasons) had my battery disconnected.  When reconnected the systen defaults to the manufacture date (or someting ages ago...).  I very often didn't bother to re-enter the radio code so would be January 1997 on my display until I reset BUT lately (yesterday) I straterd up and immediately entered the radio code. the RDS system automatically corrects the date and time!

Given this, Al's machine must be suffering some intermittent total loss of connection to the battery... I haven't tried but if you disconnect the battery with the engine running; does it stop?  Mabe these two items (radio/engine stop) are symptoms of a combined source.

Are all the battery connections and eartings good Al? :-\
