Omega General Help / Re: Cost of breather and gasket work.
« on: 14 March 2009, 03:58:19 »
I would have helped if I was close enough. It wouldn't take much time. I did the same on my car just before xmas (changed rocker cover gasket and cleaned breather pipes + throttle body). Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

get yourself a trade club card here
http://www.autobahnstormers.org/
Download the pdf app form, print it off, fill it in and send it off with a cheque for £20. Save yourself  some money on trade club parts from the dealer.
You wont get better prices on oil and plugs esp.

My understanding was that they can only give you a membership card which's got a stamp or trade club number on it. I read on some forums that not all trade club dealers accept this. Any one's got more to say on this?

when its cold shes smooth when changing up, but seems to say in the gears longer  .......

They all do that Sir!
Seriously .... they're designed to that, intended to help warm cats up quicker.  :y

As Andy says thats normal, select snow mode if it bothers you, but nothing to worry about.

Really would not bother with a code reader unless you have a recurreing problem like air bag light, or pre cat code. As your other thread, try the pedal trick, it will tell you the codes without a reader.

Major service includes the cam belt and tensioner. Needs a locking kit. You should be able to borrow one from somebody on here i would have thought

Does the owners manual go into the service intervals? There is copy of it on here somewhere for download iirc.... Anyone?

You can download it from VX website. IIRC you need to register (free but needs email, etc.) and then you can download all manuals including stereo's.

ok.  there are two types of rear disc on the 2.2 92.6 and 3.2) some models have a solid disc and some have vented.  I believe the vented ones are later model.  as far as i can tell, all calipers are made by ATE.  the critical difference is that the vented discs are 20mm thinkness, the solid 12mm

All 2.0,2.5and 3.0 as far as i can tell have solid rear discs

Your original picture shows a caliper identical to mine.  I believe that the caliper you have is compatible with a vented 20mm rear disc ( this must be from a late model 2.2, 2.6 or 3.2 and not a 2.5)

have a look at the ATE catalogue here - you'll need to do a bit of searching but there are some useful pictures to confirm this.

http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/com/en/ate/ate/themes/10_products/20_hydraulic-parts/10_brake_calipers/sa_index_en.html

I think it is back to the breaker at the very least - ask to see the car if you can.  the alternative would be a relacement caliper from a factor - at least it would be known good

Thanks for reply and the link. I found both calipers in the catalogue but I'm not able to post the link as it's session dependent.

Just as you mentioned, my new one is listed as the one for vented discs (which mine isn't) and the old one for solid discs. ATE catalogue shows 2.2, 2.5, etc. as all having same caliper and the only difference might come from disc.

That said I fitted the caliper (only for time being until I get a proper one) and it seemed a nice fit, i.e. no more than a couple of mm space around the disc. Are you sure the difference between vented and solid is 8mm as I definitely didn't have that much of a gap.

Thanks for replies guys. It's a rear caliper. I'm not sure about pfl, but the disc doesn't seem to be vented (or probably is but it's rusted all around as I can see some groves around it!). I remember the breaker mentioned it's off a 2.5 omega which he said is the same as 2.2. Original calipers look like the ones in Haynes manual and this is a picture of it: (sorry for low quality pic)

And this is the picture of the one in question:

Any helps would be appreciated as the breaker (the one near Heathrow) is some 60 miles away from me and would rather to avoid the journey if I can.

Hi everybody,

I managed to crash sideways into kerb few weeks ago and ended up with a bent trailing arm and tie rod, snapped caliper, snapped coil spring and broken alloy all on rear offside wheel! That hurt  :'( Front alignment seems to have gone crazy as the steering wheel stands at some 45 degrees angle. I can only hope nothing's wrong with it but the alignment  :-/

Anyway, had trouble finding the trailing arm for which dealer wanted over £400 and two weeks lead time. Managed to find it through scrappies though for only £50 and it included hub, bushes, brake shoes, etc. I also got a caliper for I think £15 which the braker told me would fit my car. By the way I'm driving a 2002 2.2 petrol miggie.

Questions:

1. When I got home, I checked the caliper and it was a different shape to mine (possibly from a pre-facelift?). It seems to fit nicely on the arm, but my old one was a bit bulkier with two sort of knobs at the two ends (around pitson and on the outer side of the caliper). Just wondering if it's ok to use these or shall I take them back? If it's ok, would it invalidate insurance just in case?

2. Not sure how common changing a trailing arm would be and it seemed to me to be very straight forward. Any points doing a tutorial?

Cheers.

I bet they aren't. When I was looking to do it on my car (53reg 2.2 CD) I called in 3 dealers, all said not possible! I even printed a thread and showed it to one, they said it might be possible but you could damage the ecu and we won't take any responsibillities. They were also looking to charge for an hour not half.

There are 2 people here with tech2 who could do it for you at a fraction of price plus they know what they're doing. I got my stalk from http://www.leavalleymotors.co.uk for £20.
Where did you get yours enabled then?
Mark enabled it for me at a meet. As you're in Kent, there's another meet usually every month or couple of months in Blue Water. It's organized by vvoc.com. I think the tech2 guy there is called Mark too (check their website).

Well im booked in tomorrow for a half hour session on the magic machine to get my cruise activated .... hope it works fine  :-/
Diags > Year > Omega > Engine > Y22XE

Confirm > Comfirm.

At Menu, Programming > Program Variant

Modify, highlight Cruise Control (that will say Not Present) and press enter.

Tech2 will error at this point.

Plug Tech2 into TIS PC, and click Security Access, and follow steps to get Level 2 and Level 3 authorisation.

Plug back into car, repaet all steps above, (now when enter pressed, it will say Cruise Control Present), then press Program.

Once programmed, go to Live Data, and ensure you can see both brake switches activate, clutch switch activate (if applicable), and all 3 cruise buttons press.

Job done

Its a Vx dealer thats doing it so i just hope they are as knowlegable as you are  :y.... maybe i should print out your instructions for them  ;D

The car in the picture seems a facelift; if so it doesn't support paperclip!

I have a question regarding this post
Aren't dipped beams on facelift CD models xenons???

They aren't HID (if that's what you mean) on my CD. I think only elite has HID. That said, AFAIK these bulbs use Xenon gas instead of Halogen which makes them brighter but not the same as HID.

duh! used to type faster before :-? and yes elite, mv6 and cdx as jimbob said

In addition, as per title-the Philips ones last and last and do not degrade, Osrams ok, but fail.

LED sides fail regularly (4-6mths average) but worth the hassle to lose the horrid yellow originals which look even worse next to the whiter upgrade bulbs.

Have used powerbulbs to source bulbs, they are very good but more expensive than wattbulb or aceparts_uk on ebay, both of which are exemplary sellers.

Cheers  :y

Thanks for the recommendation, will use Philips when my nightbreakers fail  ::)

For LEDs, I had them on my motorbike and it failed few times. A mate of mine said you need to put a resistor if using LEDs to limit the current, otherwise they fail quite often. Didn't try it though as I went back to normal bulbs.

Topic says it all! Do they?

As a side note, I just ordered H1+H7 nightbreakers + sidelights for just over £35 delivered. Sounds good price to me.

Any chance of a link ?, as I may be looking to replace some bulbs myself

Just google Osram Nightbreakers  :y

Yep, and the first link is: http://www.autobulbsonline.co.uk/

Have been wondering why my headlights are so dim compared to the others around me - still the ones from factory. Nightbreakers on the way though, should get my sunglasses out I guess  ;D
